Chapter 425: The Extreme Laxus
Chapter 425: The Extreme Laxus
"It's actually our fault," Reby explained with a hint of guilt, detailing the cause and effect.
After Rod, Mira, and Elfman left, Lucy set her sights on the mission at the Magic Classroom, but she was a little slow, and someone else snatched it away.
This time, the one who took the mission was Gajuru.
After missing out on her desired mission for several days, Lucy couldn't help but argue with him, but Gajuru had no intention of backing down, and he confidently took the mission and left.
After all, his actions weren't against the rules; he merely took a mission he liked.
Lucy had no choice but to storm off home, feeling frustrated.
However, Jet and Troy couldn't stand this guy's arrogance in the guild, so they chased after him, intending to settle old scores.
Reby didn't want them to clash, but despite her fear, she followed them.
Jet and Troy then got into a fierce fight with Gajuru, while Reby could only hide behind a tree, shouting for them to stop.
Unexpectedly, Laxus suddenly appeared, mocked them for a moment, and then directly attacked Gajuru.
If Jet and Troy's fighting was within the realm of a scuffle, Laxus' actions were almost lethal, intending to seriously injure Gajuru.
After a few moves, Jet and Troy thought it was enough, as Gajuru hadn't shown any resistance from the start.
Whether it was them fighting or Laxus taking action, Gajuru maintained a posture of not fighting back.
However, when they tried to stop Laxus, his face turned furious, and he directly unleashed a lightning spell at Reby.
If not for Gajuru blocking it for Reby, she might have ended up in the infirmary.
One of their companions had attacked Reby, while someone they considered an opponent or even an enemy had protected her.
Thus, Jet and Troy's emotions were complex.
The Guild Master always said that fighting was also a way to understand each other.
Now, through this fight, they understood Gajuru's true thoughts—despite his tough exterior, he felt apologetic and genuinely wanted to fit in.
But Laxus' intentions remained uncertain.
Perhaps he truly didn't want to consider them as companions, just as he claimed.
Reby, having been protected, felt a bit guilty. "If it weren't for us, Gajuru might not have encountered Laxus and wouldn't have been so badly injured."
"Don't take all the blame upon yourself," Mira said, reaching out to ruffle Reby's hair. "It's not unusual for us to get into a fight because we don't like someone, right? You just encountered something unexpected."
"Hmm..." Reby looked into Mira's eyes and nodded. Then, she removed Mira's hand, "I'm not a child."
Indeed, Gajuru was as tough as iron, especially with his mouth.
Rod thought for a moment and asked, "How did it end? Did Laxus stop?"
Reby replied, "Yes, Laxus said it was boring and then left, still seeming very angry."
Gajuru, after being beaten, silently walked away, while the one doing the beating became angrier as he fought.
"However, Laxus has been getting more and more extreme lately," Mira said with a hint of anger. "Before, he was just a bit cold, then he started mocking, almost causing a conflict the other day, and today he directly attacked Reby."
"The Guild Master has mentioned so many times that he wanted to talk to him, but it seems it's had no effect," Rod said, feeling a bit sorry for the Guild Master.
With such an incident, the one who would feel the worst was probably the old man, but they couldn't keep this from him.
This was no ordinary fight or friendly sparring, but a straightforward attack like one would against an enemy.
He wasn't sure about the rules in other guilds, but at least in Fairy Tail, this was a serious violation.
Perhaps it didn't warrant expulsion, but punishment was inevitable.
The consequences ranged from a severe reprimand or a beating by the Guild Master to a more severe punishment, such as a temporary ban on taking missions, effectively putting them on probation.
An apology would also be expected, but given Laxus's personality, he would probably quit the guild rather than apologize.
"I'm sorry, Rachel," Makarov apologized to Rachel personally, "I won't easily forgive him for this."
"You don't have to say that..." Rachel had always been soft-hearted, even when bullied, she quickly let things go.
But Makarov wasn't going to let it slide.
As the Guild Master, he considered all the guild members his children and couldn't favor his own grandson.
The next time Laxus returned, he would have to give Rachel and Gajeel an explanation.
The matter was temporarily set aside, and Rod and Mira returned to their posts.
Soon, the guild door was kicked open again.
"Is Laxus back?" Natsu, who hadn't been seen for several days, burst into the guild, shouting, "Come out and duel me!"
"You again? Have you forgotten how badly Laxus beat you up last year?" Macao asked.
"Last year I was just a kid, it doesn't count!" Natsu yelled.
Macao didn't understand his logic, "It counted last year, but not this year?"
Natsu ignored him and ran to the counter, looking around, "Rod, have you seen Laxus?"
"No, he seemed to have just come to take a look and left without coming to the guild," Rod replied.
"Damn! I was so excited to hear he was back!"
"You're always training in the outskirts, yet you're so well-informed."
"Yeah! I heard someone saw him when we went to buy fish." Happy flew over, "What should we do, Natsu? Should we go back?"
"We've already come all this way," Natsu didn't want to return just yet. He clenched his fist, "I've decided! Let's go to Lucy's place!"
Natsu's emotions were quick to rise and fall. With a great idea in mind, he turned and ran.
Happy agreed with his decision, "Yeah! It's been a while since we visited her!"
"Wait!" Rod reached out and tried to grab Natsu but only managed to catch Happy's tail.
Happy said anxiously, "Let go! We'll miss Lucy's sarcastic remarks about Natsu if we're late!"
"So, you guys find her sarcasm amusing." Rod handed the newspaper to Happy, "Give this to Lucy and remember to show her some extra care."
"Yeah!" Happy grabbed the newspaper and flew off without even looking at it.
Rod didn't feel that this task had to be done by him personally, as beneath Natsu's rough exterior lay a surprisingly sensitive heart.
Or perhaps it was his beast-like intuition.
Whenever his companions were feeling off, even if they didn't show it, he could always sense it and make particularly fitting decisions.
In this regard, Rod felt inferior, as he could barely sense Mira's emotions, let alone be as attentive to others.
