Chapter 425: Cause and Effect
Chapter 425: Cause and Effect
Using a scientific analogy, this orb can be called the "service terminal" for magic. In more magical terms, it is the "Source" from which all Wizards derive their magical abilities.
Sherlock stared at the orb, lost in thought.
He was certain that this Source had no consciousness; it was a completely lifeless object.
It seemed to have been programmed by someone beforehand, operating according to pre-set rules without any will of its own or control by anyone else.
From the moment Sherlock arrived in this place, he felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity with the orb, as if he had once had intimate contact with it. However, in his memory, this was definitely the first time he had seen it.
As Sherlock was deep in thought, the quietly rotating luminous orb suddenly flashed a white light, and a scene from an unknown time flashed through his mind.
The scene was still in this place, with iridescent light filling every corner of the space. A transparent figure suddenly burst in.
Sherlock looked at the ghostly figure and was completely stunned.
The figure was none other than himself!
But it wasn't the body he had now. It was his former self from before he was transported to this world!
It seemed as if some unknown force had dragged him in, rather than him entering of his own accord. His soul, in a completely unconscious state, was brought to this place, which could be considered the sanctuary of Wizards.
After Sherlock's soul was dragged into this space, the luminous orb clearly malfunctioned.
It seemed to encounter an insurmountable problem, causing its program to glitch.
The light in the entire space dimmed for a moment, but this situation was only brief. The orb seemed to find a way to fix the glitch, and the iridescent light continued to shine. Sherlock's floating soul was then thrown back out of the space.
Although it only stayed for a few seconds, Sherlock's soul had still absorbed some unique characteristics of the "Source." The transparent soul faintly shimmered with iridescent light, and the scene ended there.
After watching this past image, Sherlock's perception of the luminous orb changed.
He now had strong reasons to suspect that the reason he was transported to this world was due to a glitch in this Wizarding World's "server terminal."
It was likely that during its operation, it glitched and brought his soul, which had died by drowning in his previous life, to this space. To resolve the glitch, it then transferred his soul to the body of another Wizard who had just died, leading to his current situation.
After understanding the cause and effect, Sherlock's gaze became complex.
If it weren't for the malfunction of the orb, he wouldn't have had to experience the dangers and trials of this world.
But upon further reflection, the experiences and gains he had here far outweighed the costs.
If given a choice, Sherlock would not hesitate to choose to come to this world again.
The people and events he encountered here were more valuable to him than anything else, especially Silke.
After a moment of reflection, Sherlock also conducted a thorough examination of his body, puzzled.
At this moment, he felt better than he had at any other time, with no issues to be found.
This couldn't help but make him curious about whether the "Source" he had been tainted with by the Luminous Orb after arriving in this space had any adverse effects on him.
As he puzzled over this, a beam of Iridescent Light suddenly drifted out of his body at some point.
The light seemed to dance joyfully around the Luminous Orb, then merged with the surrounding space and vanished.
This was clearly the "Source" that his soul from a previous life had taken away when it first came to this space.
Now that his soul was once again perfect and worthy of returning to this space, the Luminous Orb had pulled him back in, likely to reclaim this thing that did not belong in the Wizarding World.
But even now, Sherlock still didn't know what impact this "Source" that had followed him for four years had on him.
As he pondered this, the Luminous Orb finished repairing all the bugs. Without any intention of keeping Sherlock around for a cup of tea, it kicked him out of the space.
Sherlock felt the scenery before his eyes shift, and the next moment, he was back in Harry's mental world.
His physical experience felt like it had lasted at least an hour, but in the outside world, only a few seconds had passed.
Harry was still looking at him with a tense expression, and Voldemort was nowhere to be seen.
Just moments ago, Harry had watched the Dark Lord, feared by so many, melt away like butter on a hot pan, disappearing completely.
"Professor, is Voldemort really dead?"
Harry watched as Sherlock opened his eyes and stammered out the question.
At this moment, Sherlock slowly came to his senses. He first familiarized himself with his body, which had undergone a tremendous transformation, before answering Harry's question.
"That was just a remnant soul that had been hiding in your body for over a decade, Harry. The real Voldemort is still plotting to take over your body and completely replace you."
Harry's tension visibly increased, but Sherlock's next words made him relax considerably.
"However, I think I've found him."
Sherlock narrowed his eyes, and as he spoke these words softly, he disappeared from Harry's sight.
Outside Harry's body, in the Gryffindor Dormitory.
Sherlock, who had been standing still with his eyes closed, suddenly opened them. His hand, as if holding something, clenched into a tight fist.
Seeing his reaction, Snape and Professor Mcgonagall, who had been anxiously waiting, perked up, and even Dumbledore's face showed a look of intense focus.
"How did it go?"
Snape, unable to contain his usual composure, asked with an urgency he had never shown before.
Sherlock didn't answer his question but instead extended the hand that had been clenched into a fist. In front of them, he slowly opened his fingers.
In the palm of his hand, a Black Mist was trying to break through a Transparent Barrier and escape.
"Come, greet everyone with your true self, Voldemort."
