Chapter 424: Who Cares About Scabbers' Feelings?
Chapter 424: Who Cares About Scabbers' Feelings?
Ron was trembling with anger.
Is this world ever going to be normal again? Why is everyone targeting his rat!
Scabbers was already miserable enough. At home, he was always pranked by George and Fred, and this semester, he was constantly harassed by Hermione's damn cat. Now, he was even being accused of being the culprit who betrayed Harry's parents.
Who cares about Scabbers' feelings?
No one! It's just a regular pet rat, after all.
"Rats generally have a very short lifespan, only one to three years. Do you remember how long Scabbers has been with you?" Ivan broke Ron's illusions and forced him to answer.
Ron was momentarily stunned. His rat Scabbers had been passed down from Percy, and it had been many years, far exceeding the typical lifespan of a rat.
However, despite this, Ron remained stubborn, or perhaps he simply refused to believe it.
"It's different. Maybe Scabbers is a magical rat. He needs to be returned to his owner. Give him back to me! I can't lose him!" Ron said almost in a choked voice.
Ron couldn't accept the fact that his rat was Peter Pettigrew. Scabbers wasn't just a pet; he was a companion who had grown up with him.
From a young age, he was always overlooked. Most of his things were hand-me-downs from his older brothers, including his Wizard's robe, wand, and pet.
Whenever others talked about him, they always saw him as Harry, the Chosen One's sidekick, or the friend of the new rising star, Ivan Hals.
His two outstanding friends always managed to steal the spotlight in any situation, while he could only be a background character, as insignificant as a rat.
And he couldn't share these feelings with anyone. He could only confide in his pet rat, because it was absolutely confidential. It wouldn't reveal his secrets or contradict his words.
Moreover, Scabbers was almost like a reflection of himself—small, unnoticed, and unloved.
Ron couldn't even imagine what a miserable life Scabbers would have if he left. Only he, as his master, could provide him with protection.
So Ron lunged at Ivan, trying to rescue Scabbers. He then slammed into the Shield Charm's barrier and was bounced back.
Ivan couldn't understand why Ron was more agitated than Harry. It's just a pet rat, is it that important?
To prevent Ron from losing control again, Ivan waved his wand, and a wooden chair turned into a long rope, binding Ron tightly.
"You need to calm down! I can show you the evidence right now!" Ivan shook his head, looking at Ron, who was still struggling on the ground. He then pointed his wand at Scabbers and channeled magic into him.
The rat, held by Ivan, let out the most piercing scream of its life. It flailed its limbs wildly and tried to bite Ivan's wand, but to no avail.
The magic permeated its entire body, quickly reaching the brain's defense mechanism. The gray rat began to transform right before everyone's eyes.
Its limbs stretched and grew thicker, its head grew larger, and its tail retracted.
Ivan couldn't hold it anymore and simply tossed it to the corner. Peter rolled on the ground in agony, the transformation continuing. In a short moment, a short, fat, bald middle-aged man appeared before everyone.
Ron stared blankly at the dirty, balding old man in front of him, his mind completely blank.
He thought about all the times he and Scabbers had shared meals, washed up, and shared their innermost thoughts. Now, all those memories made him feel sick to his stomach.
"He, he's Peter Pettigrew? How can he turn into a rat?" Harry, who had watched the entire transformation, was shocked and stammered.
He had seen the rat almost every day at school. Who would have thought that Scabbers was actually a Wizard, and possibly the one who betrayed his parents?
"It's an Animagus transformation!" Hermione suddenly spoke up.
"What?" Harry and Ron looked at her in confusion.
"An Animagus transformation! It's an extremely powerful form of Transfiguration that allows a Wizard to transform into a specific animal. There are almost no flaws in the transformation. Professor Mcgonagall mentioned it once in our Transfiguration class. Don't you remember?"
Did she? I don't remember that at all.
Harry looked puzzled, but if Hermione said so, it must be true.
"But I remember the Ministry of Magic keeps a record of all Wizards who can transform into animals. There's a registry that shows what animal they can turn into, and it's marked", Hermione said, looking at Sirius and Peter, clearly both Animagi.
"Very good point! But you overlooked one thing— not everyone follows the Ministry's rules!" Sirius looked at Hermione approvingly and explained.
"Now, isn't everything clear? I don't think I need to explain further, do I?" Ivan pointed to Peter, who was huddled on the ground, shivering.
Harry nodded, about to respond, when Peter, lying on the ground, suddenly screamed.
"No, that's not true! You've all been fooled, deceived by Black!
He's a murderer, a complete Dark Wizard! You wouldn't believe a murderer, right? I can tell you that the entire Black family are extreme pure-blood fanatics, without a single exception!"
"His brother, Regulus Black, was a Death Eater, and his cousin, Bellatrix Black, is the Dark Lord's most loyal servant. The entire Black family supports the Dark Lord!"
As he said this, Peter glared at Sirius, challenging him.
"Can you deny this?"
Everyone except Ivan looked at Sirius in surprise, waiting for his response.
"I don't deny it! My siblings are indeed scum", Sirius admitted openly. Seeing the doubtful looks in everyone's eyes, he continued.
"But because I always stood out and despised their pure-blood ideology, my mother had me removed from the family tree long ago."
"Who knows if you didn't deliberately infiltrate and gain James's trust, becoming a traitor!" Peter countered urgently.
He looked at Harry and the others with a pitiful expression, then turned to Ivan. He knew his only chance of survival was to convince Ivan to trust him.
After all, Black had lost his wand, and Ivan was now the strongest one here!
