Chapter 423: Harry and Ron: We Defeated Black!
Chapter 423: Harry and Ron: We Defeated Black!
Just as the two sides were facing off, Ron suddenly pulled Harry to the side, drew his wand, and shouted.
"Harry, you run! Put on the Invisibility Cloak, I'll hold them off!"
Then, Ron turned to Ivan with a look of intense anger and yelled.
"I really trusted you, Ivan! I never thought you'd be working with Black, and trick us into coming here!"
"I told you before, I'm here to clear up a misunderstanding!" Ivan explained helplessly.
"Misunderstanding? There is no misunderstanding! Black killed my parents! And you, my best friend, brought me here to hand me over to him!" Harry lost control completely, abandoning any thoughts of escape as anger consumed him.
To Harry, this scene felt like a replay of the past.
"I didn't! Harry, it's not what you think!" Sirius took a few quick steps forward, trying to explain.
But Harry suddenly moved, waving his wand.
"Disarm!"
A red beam shot out from the tip of his wand. Sirius instinctively tried to cast a Shield Charm, but he hesitated, fearing he might hurt Harry and make things worse. In that moment, the red beam struck him.
Sirius stumbled backward in pain, his wand flying out of his hand, spinning in the air before landing in Harry's grasp.
The moment Harry caught the wand, he froze, looking at Sirius, who had been Disarmed so easily, feeling a sense of absurdity.
"You beat him, Harry!" Ron exclaimed in shock.
He hadn't expected the notorious and ruthless Black to be defeated by Harry, but the excitement was overwhelming. They had defeated one enemy, and now they just needed to deal with the other!
Thinking of this, Ron turned to Ivan and shouted.
"Disarm!"
A red beam shot toward Ivan.
But Ivan had no intention of taking the hit. He immediately activated the protective ring's effect, and the beam bounced off the magical barrier, returning at a faster speed and slamming into Ron.
Ron was sent flying, landing in a pile of rotten wood and unable to get up for a long time.
"Ron!" Harry, seeing Ron's condition, panicked and waved his wand to attack Ivan, only to be thrown back as well.
Both wands ended up in Ivan's hands.
Seeing the situation getting more chaotic, Hermione finally couldn't take it anymore and screamed, "Enough! Stop fighting!"
"Hermione, come over here, stay away from them!" Harry struggled to his feet, urgently calling out to Hermione.
"Don't be stupid! If Ivan wanted to kill us, he would have done it already! We can't fight him together!" Hermione shouted hysterically.
She didn't know why Ivan was involved with Sirius, but she was very clear about the power dynamics.
If Ivan had conspired with Sirius to bring them to this remote place to kill Harry, he wouldn't have bothered with explanations and would have attacked directly!
Additionally, Hermione didn't think Ivan had any reason to harm Harry.
"Right! You should calm down and think logically. Up until now, neither Sirius nor I have attacked you; it was you who started the fight. Isn't that obvious enough?" Ivan looked at Harry and the others, shrugging his shoulders.
Ron, crawling out from the rubble, opened his mouth to protest, claiming he had just been attacked. However, he quickly choked on his words, remembering that Ivan had merely deflected his own spell. In a sense, Ivan hadn't attacked him at all.
Harry was utterly bewildered. He looked at Sirius, who didn't rush forward to kill him. Instead, Sirius's eyes held a glimmer of excitement at their long-awaited reunion.
"Ivan, what is going on here?" Hermione asked, her voice filled with concern.
She was willing to trust Ivan, but she was also very confused, with many questions she wanted to ask.
"I was just about to explain if you hadn't interrupted me", Ivan said with a sigh of frustration, then began to explain to the three of them.
"You might know the story from back then, so I won't repeat it. But there's one thing that needs to be corrected: the person who betrayed Harry's father, leading to the death of Harry's parents, was not Sirius. It was another friend of Harry's father, Peter Pettigrew!"
"Peter Pettigrew? The hero who went after Black and was killed?" Harry couldn't help but interrupt Ivan again, shouting in protest.
"Malfoy told me everything, and I even confirmed it with Professor Mcgonagall. She clearly told me it was Black who betrayed my father!
And there were many witnesses, a whole street of Muggles who gave similar testimonies. Peter intercepted Black, crying out my parents' names, and then they fought. Peter was blown to pieces right there!"
Harry kept recalling the events, tears welling up in his eyes, and he looked at Sirius with a gaze full of hatred.
Besides the Muggles, Hagrid was also a witness. Harry had managed to extract a lot of information from Hagrid, who said he saw Sirius near the safe house. This was why Harry was so convinced.
After all, Hagrid would never lie to him.
Seeing Harry's hateful gaze, Sirius was in great pain but still mustered the strength to explain.
"No, that's not how it happened. Peter and I switched roles at the last minute, with him becoming the Secret-Keeper! To ensure secrecy, only three people knew about this: me, your father, and Peter. That's why there was a misunderstanding!"
"Three people? Now my father and Peter are both dead. Who can prove this?" Harry was highly skeptical, not believing such a coincidence could exist.
"You're wrong, Peter didn't die!" Sirius said, each word deliberate, then turned to look at the rat in Ivan's hand with a predatory gaze. He continued, "We have caught him now!"
Harry and the others also turned their gaze to Scabbers, the gray-Black rat that had gone limp, lying still as if dead.
Ron immediately understood what Sirius was trying to convey and shouted in disbelief, "You can't be saying that my Scabbers is Peter? That's impossible! It's just a pet, I've had it for years.
We even eat, take baths, and go to the toilet together. No one knows Scabbers better than I do. It can't be a Wizard in disguise, that's just absurd!"
