Chapter 423: Guardians of the Galaxy (Second Update)
Chapter 423: Guardians of the Galaxy (Second Update)
A hundred meters above the central region of the red planet, aboard the invisible Divine Realm.
Fully armed, the five members of the Guardians of the Galaxy looked at Jerry.
"Mr. Carmen, tell us, what's our mission?"
After interrogating the Kree, Jerry had said they needed to head to the center of the continent to rescue the natives.
Although they didn't know why Jerry wanted to save those people or where to take them after, since their client had requested it, they would do their best to complete the task.
After all, anything was better than letting the planet's natives be taken as slaves by the Kree.
Jerry glanced at the five of them and then put on a somewhat awkward but polite expression.
"Your mission is to stay inside the Divine Realm and not wander around. I'll handle the rest."
With that, he vanished from the Divine Realm using a Phantom Shift.
Rescuing the Kaitians from the five transport ships was too easy. He just needed to use Phantom Shift to get inside, knock out the Kree soldiers, and then throw the transport ships into his Spatial Ring.
However, he had a new idea now.
He wanted to become a god in the eyes of the Kaitians and use faith to spread the Book of Carmen.
In all the worlds he had experienced so far, magic was mysterious and alluring, but it still fell short compared to the power of gods, faith, and religion.
He thought that establishing a religion among the Kaitians and turning those who studied the Book of Carmen into priests, dedicated to saving lives and spreading love and justice, would be more beneficial for collecting magic power and red stars.
Furthermore, he could control the distribution of the Book of Carmen based on his total magic power, maintaining the best possible growth rate.
With his supervision, the religion wouldn't go astray and become a false cult.
As for becoming a god, it was incredibly simple, especially for the Kaitians, who were still in the age of cold weapons.
To these Kaitians, the Thanos fleet from three years ago and the current Kree fleet were probably seen as demons descending from the sky, destroying their homes, killing their companions, and dragging them to hell.
The language barrier and lack of understanding made it difficult for them to grasp concepts like spaceships, the universe, and aliens.
It would be like if aliens and spaceships suddenly appeared in ancient Earth; they would likely be considered heavenly soldiers capable of flying.
"Although it feels great to get an extra billion without doing anything, for some reason, I feel like it lacks a sense of achievement!"
Star-Lord shrugged as he watched Jerry disappear.
Gamora looked at Star-Lord with surprise.
"I didn't expect you, a scoundrel, to have this side!"
"Don't think I'm all about money. I like it, but I love adventure more. Honestly, what are you planning to do with your share? Why don't you join my Guardians of the Galaxy?"
Star-Lord winked at Gamora.
"Guardians of the Galaxy?"
Gamora looked puzzled.
Star-Lord holstered his two elemental guns and nodded.
"Yep, that's the name I just came up with. How cool is that?"
"Ha ha ha ha, Guardians of the Galaxy? Quill, that's the lamest name I've ever heard. It's only a bit better than that Shock Kill Adventure!"
Rocket immediately clutched his belly and burst out laughing.
"Hey, don't laugh like that, Rocket. What are you and Groot going to do with the money? Find a planet to settle down on? You're a weapons genius and a famous bounty hunter. And you, Drax, don't you have any plans?"
"I want to kill Ronan!"
Drax stopped laughing, and his face instantly turned furious.
"What about after you kill Ronan? Do you plan to return to prison and be a criminal again?"
Star-Lord continued to ask.
Hearing Star-Lord's words, Rocket and Drax fell silent.
They both had dark pasts. Rocket Raccoon was a product of experiments, constantly being modified and abandoned, leaving him feeling very lonely. Drax, on the other hand, had lost all of his family and had been driven by a desire for revenge.
"Gamora, you need to understand that staying in one place is never safe. It would be better to join us on adventures in the stars, so Thanos can never find you."
Sensing that Rocket and Drax were considering it, Star-Lord turned to look at Gamora.
"I am Groot?"
Groot, feeling ignored once again, looked at Star-Lord with a discontented expression.
However, just as Star-Lord was using his thick skin and personal charm to convince everyone to join his newly formed Guardians of the Galaxy, the sky suddenly darkened as if a large cloud had covered the sun.
Looking up, they saw that a fleet of Kree Cruisers, accompanied by many Kree spaceships, had descended from outer space, as if they had received some urgent news.
"Trouble, Mr. Carmen's operation must have been discovered. The Kree Empire's fleet is coming down to provide support. Asgard, quickly take us down to help!"
Star-Lord, seeing the scene in the sky, immediately had a bad feeling.
Gamora and the others clearly shared the same thought.
Jerry's Magic was indeed very powerful, but it seemed to be his first time leaving Earth, and he was not familiar with many common aspects of space.
The Kree transport ships below had advanced alarm systems that would immediately notify the Kree Cruisers in orbit if they were attacked.
They guessed that Jerry had not noticed these systems, leading to the current situation.
If they had been with him, they could have disabled the alarm systems as soon as they invaded the transport ships. They could only blame Jerry for being too confident in his Magic.
However, when Asgard responded to Star-Lord's request, it was in a gruff voice:
"No, the Lord has ordered that you are not to leave the ship."
Luckily, Star-Lord and the others were wearing translators, otherwise, they wouldn't have understood Asgard's semi-archaic response.
"Those cruisers are equipped with powerful energy cannons. Even if your Lord's Magic is strong, a single volley would turn him into dust. If we go down now and warn your Lord, then activate the transport ship's defense systems, we can hold them off for a while. Your Lord can then use the portal to get us and the Kaitians to safety..."
Star-Lord kept explaining his perfect rescue plan to Asgard, hoping to persuade it to take them down.
Unfortunately, Asgard wouldn't listen and even increased the ship's energy shield to prevent them from leaving:
"The Lord's power is beyond your comprehension!"
"Quill, look over there!"
