Chapter 422: Saving the Kree (First Update)
Chapter 422: Saving the Kree (First Update)
Just as Jerry was about to close the portal, Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Rocket, and Drax jumped through without hesitation.
"You guys are...?"
Jerry looked at the five of them with surprise.
"I figured you could use a cool sidekick!"
Star-Lord pulled out his Elemental Gun, spun it around his hand with a flourish, and struck a pose.
"We owe something to those billion lives. Otherwise, I'd seem too powerless."
Gamora drew her Retractable Blade, her eyes cold and determined.
"It's too boring on the ship. I need to come down and cut something!"
Drax brandished two daggers and let out an excited roar.
"I just want to test out my newly modified Shock Gun!"
Rocket lifted the new version of his Shock Gun.
"I am Groot!"
Groot spoke in a language that Jerry couldn't understand.
Jerry looked at the five of them, who seemed so eager to help, and thought to himself that they might not be much use. But given their good intentions, he couldn't help but smile wryly.
"Alright, thank you all!"
In reality, the combined strength of the five was quite formidable by normal standards. Star-Lord was a genius at piloting and could wield his Elemental Guns with great skill. Gamora was a formidable close-combat fighter with a specially enhanced body. Drax possessed strength and durability far beyond that of an ordinary person. Rocket was a weapons expert, small in size but quick and adept at setting traps with various weapons. Groot was incredibly strong and could regenerate any part of his body as long as he wasn't completely destroyed, extending his limbs to attack enemies and protect his allies.
However, for Jerry, a powerful Mage, their abilities wouldn't provide much assistance.
Still, it didn't matter. The enemies were weak, and there were no particularly formidable opponents to worry about. He could still handle the situation with these five, and they might be useful for dealing with some basic issues.
"Divine Realm, enlarge."
"Yes, my lord!"
At Jerry's command, the miniature Divine Realm flew out of his pocket and rapidly grew to its normal size.
Without the five, Jerry could have flown up to survey the planet himself. With them, he needed to use the Divine Realm to carry everyone. After the six of them boarded the Divine Realm, Jerry activated its stealth mode and took off, quickly circling the entire planet.
From the Divine Realm, they could see that the red planet was relatively small, about half the size of the moon. Apart from vast red oceans, there was only one continent, roughly the size of South Africa or Peru, covering over a million square kilometers.
The continent was mostly covered in red vegetation—red grass, red trees, red flowers, and red fruits. This was why the planet appeared red from space.
After circling the planet a few times to get a general idea, Jerry, guided by Gamora, landed the Divine Realm in a cluster of buildings that were almost unrecognizable in their state of ruin.
"Three years ago, this place wasn't so damaged. It seems the Kree put up a fierce resistance when they arrived!"
Gamora looked at the ruins with a sigh. This city, once enclosed by tall walls, was the capital of the largest nation on the planet. When Thanos and his fleet descended, they wiped out half of the planet's intelligent life, including half of the capital's population.
The only reason Thanos was able to conquer this planet so easily is that the inhabitants were still in the age of cold weapons. As a result, there was almost no resistance, and the damage to the capital city was minimal.
Now, the capital city has been reduced to ruins, clearly due to the Kree reconnaissance team encountering strong resistance and subsequently unleashing the heavy firepower of their ship.
"Judging from the current traces, the attack seems to have happened not long ago. The Kree must have only recently discovered this planet. Perhaps the inhabitants haven't had time to evacuate yet."
Rocket jumped down from the Divine Realm and circled the ruins, observing the surrounding marks before making this assessment.
"Then let's find a nearby Kree to ask!"
Jerry thought for a moment and came up with a solution.
While orbiting the planet, he had seen numerous Kree collection ships conducting various operations on the continents and oceans. To find out if the planet's inhabitants were still around, they could simply find a Kree nearby and "friendly" inquire.
Overall, Jerry was quite satisfied with the situation on this planet.
The land area wasn't too large, which would make it easier for him to replicate it exactly in his Spatial ring. The buildings also confirmed what Gamora had said: the planet's inhabitants were indeed in the cold weapons era.
Now, they just needed to determine if the people were still there.
If not, they would retreat to Contraxia. If so, it would be a win for everyone.
"This mission is simple, leave it to us!"
Star-Lord, upon hearing about the plan to kidnap a Kree, immediately puffed out his chest and gave a confident guarantee.
Jerry merely glanced at Star-Lord and smiled. Then, in a flash, Jerry vanished from the spot. In another flash, he reappeared with a bewildered Kree in hand.
"No need to make it so complicated."
It turned out that Jerry had used a Phantom Shift to teleport into a nearby collection ship, grabbed a Kree, and then Phantom Shifted back.
Ignoring the expressions of Star-Lord and the others, Jerry cast a Soul Steal on the bewildered Kree and began interrogating for information.
About ten minutes later, Jerry used Memory Erase to wipe the Kree's memory and smiled in satisfaction.
According to the Kree's testimony, the Kree reconnaissance team had discovered the planet only five days before them and called for the Kree fleet to occupy it. The native inhabitants, now called Kree, had not yet been transported to Hala. Instead, they were being held in several transport ships in the center of the continent.
Since it was a newly discovered race, the Kree translators couldn't yet interpret the language of the Kree inhabitants. Before brainwashing and education on Hala, the Kree needed to use a Language Collector to organize, collect, and translate their language.
Additionally, they needed to quickly learn about the planet from the natives to extract valuable resources.
"Still a million inhabitants left, that's more than enough!"
Jerry's Spatial ring, now continuously expanded with the help of some of the Power Stone and Reality Stone's abilities, had grown to the size of two normal provinces. A mere million aliens would fit comfortably.
