Chapter 422: I Don't Know!
Chapter 422: I Don't Know!
"This is..."
Roberts tilted his head skyward, his usual impassive 'strong men' expression finally cracking.
What in the world was that!
Why was the Grand Line falling from the heavens!
Was this the White Sea?
No, this was Qinghai's seawater, not the cloud water of the White Sea!
Whoosh!
Massive raindrops began falling, as if targeting Roberts himself. Within his chaotic form, the rain seeped into his body and was immediately 'stored' away.
Boom!!!
The raindrops coalesced into a torrential column of water, cascading from the sea area above and engulfing Roberts.
The auction house roof was easily pierced by the water column. Seawater sprayed outward with crushing pressure, instantly reducing the entire building to ruins.
The figure at the center struggled against the relentless deluge, forced to continuously 'store' seawater just to survive.
If he stopped storing, his abilities would fail instantly.
"Just as I said", Kuro muttered, pressing his five fingers downward. The water column's impact speed increased dramatically, carving a massive crater where Roberts stood.
Kuro knew his water column was being absorbed, but the absorption rate couldn't match the column's descent. More importantly, this guy's unarmed combat techniques were too weak. Even trying to escape, his speed couldn't rival the water column's movement.
The water column was moving, which meant Roberts was moving, but that movement speed...
Kuro spread his hand, and the water column visibly expanded, tracking Roberts' movements within its central area. There was no way to escape.
"No, it'll overflow! I'll overflow!" Roberts screamed.
The water was being absorbed, but Roberts gradually felt the storage area he'd never worried about before reaching its limit.
He could feel it - the storage was nearly full.
This was comparable to the entire Shabondy Archipelago's area. Before, unless he'd fallen into the Grand Line, it would never have filled. And he'd never fallen before!
But now... wasn't this just like falling into the Grand Line?
"Lucius Kro! Stop it! I'll burst from overfilling!" he cried.
But his voice was muffled by the water, struggling to escape the column.
And Kuro had no intention of listening.
"Did you hear me, Lucius Kro! Hurry and release it!" His voice grew panicked.
"Lucius Kro!!!" Roberts' eyes widened, his mouth forming a perfect circle as he screamed shrilly, hands clutching his cheeks, his entire body trembling in terror, like a world-famous painting of despair.
Suddenly, a wisp of water foam burst from his mouth. Then, droplets began seeping from his skin, multiplying until they merged with the surrounding water, completely enveloping Roberts.
Crack!
Kuro clenched his five fingers, severing the sky-spanning water column. The water condensed into a transparent sphere trapping Roberts.
"Looks like your storage's full. Now you're just ordinary flesh and blood."
Inside the water sphere, Roberts' face turned pale as he weakly struggled.
Some Devil Fruit users weren't affected by seawater.
At least Kuro wasn't, or rather, his type had ways to counteract it.
But there were limits.
Kuro's physical strength deficiency made falling into the sea his weakness. As for Roberts, his weaknesses were far too many in Kuro's eyes.
The simplest limitation was Seastone.
Besides that, Haki's attacks worked too. While he could absorb force, he couldn't absorb human willpower. There might be no visible wounds, but the pain was undeniable.
Logia types completely countered his kind.
And then there was Kuro's most primitive method.
Though Haki was simpler, he mused, "Give and take - you sent me so many weapons, so I'll send you some seawater for protection. Though... you seem unable to handle it."
Kuro gripped Autumn Water, slicing horizontally and unleashing a howling wind through the water sphere.
"Lion Bite."
Hiss-hiss-hiss!
The water sphere transformed into blades, continuously cutting around Roberts. Deng Shi's body exploded into blood mist, staining the water sphere crimson before it shattered with a loud crack, Roberts vanishing completely, leaving only bloodstained water pooling on the ground.
Whoosh!
The sky began raining again. Kuro sheathed his blade with a metallic click. The corpses on the ground were sliced apart by raindrops, reduced to bloody pulp flowing into the sewers under the storm's relentless pounding.
"Job's done."
Kuro exhaled a plume of smoke, surveying the clean ground. He raised his hand, drawing the seawater skyward until it vanished, revealing a clear sky.
"Look how clean this land is. Nothing left", Kuro quipped.
"Kuro Vice Admiral!"
As the rain eased, Wilbur arrived with reinforcements, Navy personnel trailing behind. Wilbur gasped, "Kuro Vice Admiral! We've come to assist!"
A tall Navy officer stepped forward, saluting Kuro. "Vice Admiral Kuro, I'm Massey, temporarily in charge of the Shabondy Archipelago. I rushed here upon hearing you'd arrived!"
Massey glanced around hesitantly. "Vice Admiral, I don't see any pirates?"
"There weren't any to begin with."
Kuro denied immediately. "When I arrived, it was already like this."
"But I heard roars earlier... and this crater?" Massey stammered.
"Oh, maybe they fled after fighting. Ask the pirates, not me. I found it like this", Kuro shrugged off.
"That, they weren't..." Fen Ni started speaking.
"Go handle your medicine!" Kuro glared at her.
"Ugh, so scary, Vice Admiral Kuro", Fen Ni squeaked, hugging her head and retreating.
"Vice Admiral, this auction house..."
Commander Massey finally noticed the ruined building, his pointing hand trembling. "This was a world noble's personal project. Now it's destroyed..."
"Huh? Some world noble's project? I don't know anything about that. It wasn't my doing", Kuro denied bluntly. "Blame the pirates. Go find them."
"But we're stationed here. If we can't even protect this..."
Massey shivered at the thought of the world noble's wrath.
Kuro raised an eyebrow. "Now I understand why Shabondy's fallen into such disrepair in a year."
He walked over, patting the tall Navy officer's shoulder. "Kid, don't rush. Those idiots won't care about this. No worries."
