Chapter 421: The Onslaught
Chapter 421: The Onslaught
Sister Huan's gaze fixed intently on the figure that suddenly stood up, her eyes widening in disbelief.
The bullet had clearly hit the head, yet there wasn't even a scratch. The level of Iron Body displayed by the target sent a chill down her spine.
And...
She glanced at the mangled body on the ground. Although she disliked Jiang Huowang and his disregard for orders, she had acknowledged his strength.
But now, he had been easily killed by Chen Chuan after just two exchanges.
Jiang Huowang's regenerative abilities were formidable, but with his head smashed, there was no way he could recover from this.
The ambush team members were equally shocked by the scene. Jiang Huowang was known for his unpredictability, but this was beyond their expectations, leaving them utterly bewildered.
Their plan was to use Jiang Huowang to distract Chen Chuan, or at the very least, wear him down. But now that Jiang Huowang was gone, what should they do?
For a moment, no one moved, waiting for new orders from the Resonance Token. They knew that the plan had to adapt, as it was impossible to account for every variable, but they hadn't anticipated this outcome.
The enemy's strength had exceeded their initial estimates, surpassing their previous assessments.
Should they retreat?
Or continue the assault?
But if they retreated, given Chen Chuan's demonstrated power and speed, they would have to leave behind a few to cover their escape, sacrificing them in the process. And could the rest of them even escape successfully?
Furthermore, Sister Huan had invested a significant portion of the team's funds into this operation, borrowing heavily from others. If the mission failed, the Ferris Wheel would not shield them, and even if they managed to escape, where could they possibly go?
There was only one choice left.
Gritting her teeth, she sent a message via the Resonance Token, "Everyone, initiate Plan Three, attack!"
Without waiting for a response, she leaped down from the railing. Originally, she had planned to strike at a critical moment, delivering a fatal blow. But with the plan in disarray, she had no choice but to join the fray ahead of schedule.
Upon receiving the order, the team members immediately sprang into action, each moving to their designated positions according to their rehearsals. The main attacker was already charging towards Chen Chuan.
Team combat was different from solo fighting; it harnessed collective strength. As they moved, their confidence returned, and they naturally fell into a cohesive rhythm.
Chen Chuan's eyes followed the attacker rushing towards him. The special medication had significantly enhanced his abilities, and every incremental increase in his power now translated to a substantial improvement.
Compared to two months ago, his current combat prowess had reached a whole new level.
In his eyes, the movements of the attackers slowed, even the Tier Three Fighters approaching him; their trajectories were clear as day.
Chen Chuan raised his hand, clenching his fist, and a white vapor rose from his body.
In a real fight, being a fraction faster meant the difference between life and death!
The attackers stared at Chen Chuan, but in the next instant, he vanished from his spot.
A loud boom reverberated nearby.
One of the team members, who had leaped into the air to engage Chen Chuan, was suddenly smashed down to the ground, creating a web of cracks upon impact. He lay amidst the debris, his spine visibly twisted, clearly incapacitated.
Before the others could react, another loud crash sounded nearby. A second team member, who had been charging forward, was slammed into the nearby sky bridge railing.
Chen Chuan stood in front of the fallen fighter, his hand pressed against the man's chest, with the impact nearly embedding the fighter into the railing. The fighter had lost consciousness.
The remaining members of the ambush team paled in fear. Their fleeting fighting spirit was doused like cold water.
Although their team's individual combat prowess was not exceptional, their strength lay in teamwork. When they combined their skills, they could overcome even formidable opponents.
But this required the enemy to be within their reach, and when they couldn't even track Chen Chuan's movements, coordination was impossible. The idea of a group assault was out of the question.
The Tier Three Fighter with the gun was drenched in cold sweat.
Although he couldn't track Chen Chuan's movements either, his ability allowed him to fire without aiming, relying solely on his senses to hit his target. Yet, after firing two shots in quick succession, he realized they had no effect, as if they had sunk into the abyss.
At that moment, he felt his hairs stand on end, and he abruptly swung his gun towards a specific spot. But then, he felt a hand on his head.
"Huh!" A loud shout came from nearby.
Chen Chuan glanced over and saw Sister Huan rushing towards him, her long spear aiming directly at his body. It seemed she could barely keep up with his movements. Ignoring the gunman, he raised the Snow Empress Blade to parry her attack.
Sister Huan quickly adjusted her stance, crossing her spears to block the blade.
She didn't need to strike Chen Chuan; she only needed to rescue her teammate.
As she made contact with the long blade, a powerful force surged through her, nearly causing her to lose control of her body. She was sent staggering backward, and only after a quick flip did she manage to dissipate the force.
Looking up, she noticed that Chen Chuan hadn't even drawn his blade from its sheath.
"Is it because it's unnecessary...?" she wondered.
Her gaze shifted to the fighter with the gun behind Chen Chuan. Despite being rescued, the fighter stood motionless, not taking the opportunity to retreat.
Seeing this, she couldn't help but feel annoyed.
Just as this thought crossed her mind, a light 'click' sounded, and to everyone's astonishment, the gunman's skull seemed to crack open, emitting a scorching heat. Yet, the man remained standing, gun in hand.
The remaining members of the ambush team involuntarily came to a halt.
In truth, they had lost their fighting spirit. They were a team of seven, including Jiang Huowang, making eight in total, but now, half of their members were gone.
Before the operation, their contingency plan had given them an 80% success rate within ten minutes. However, once that time was exceeded, their chances would plummet to below 50%, decreasing further with each passing minute.
In reality, the target was nothing like what the plan had suggested. They had faced a one-sided slaughter. Only two minutes had passed since the engagement began, and they were already struggling to hold on, let alone last for ten minutes.
Sister Huan also realized this, but having decided to charge into battle, she had cast aside all distractions, focusing solely on the goal of killing the target.
Fixing her gaze on Chen Chuan, she spoke through the Boundary Token, "Plan Four."
The remaining three exchanged glances, each crushing a tooth with their tongue to release a stimulant into their bodies.
These drugs tapped into their potential, constantly generating and replenishing their strength. Once the effects wore off, they would enter a prolonged period of weakness, making escape unlikely.
Chen Chuan didn't attack during their exchange, but he wasn't idle. He released his Field Domain, expanding it to encompass the remaining four individuals.
Through the Field Domain's contact and feedback, he instantly grasped the general condition and characteristics of each person.
He turned his head towards one of the burly figures.
Sister Huan sensed danger and hastily warned, "Old Man!"
Before she could finish, Chen Chuan vanished from his original spot, reappearing in front of the burly team member. He kicked out, but this time, the opponent wasn't as helpless as before. A thick arm rose, and with the aid of the leather armguard, the kick was blocked with a loud 'bang'.
The man's red eyes, like flames, fixed on Chen Chuan. He raised his other hand, holding an axe, attempting to strike Chen Chuan. But despite lifting the weapon, it seemed to hang in the air, unable to land a blow.
Chen Chuan's kick was blocked, but the sheer force caused the man to lose his balance. He struggled to find his footing, and his grip on the axe weakened.
Chen Chuan kicked again, striking the man's cheek with force!
It was a double kick!
A loud 'bang' reverberated, shattering the man's jaw and teeth. The man was sent flying sideways, his eyes rolling back as he lost consciousness mid-air, before his mangled face slammed into the ground.
Chen Chuan maintained his kicking stance.
Despite the drug-enhanced strength and speed, the man wasn't accustomed to his new power, and this only exposed more vulnerabilities.
At that moment, a continuous burst of gunfire erupted from the rear, as Sister Huan ordered the nearby fighters to focus their fire on Chen Chuan, disregarding the security forces for the moment.
Even though the standard bullets posed little threat, they could still serve as a distraction and hindrance.
As the bullets rained down, Sister Huan charged forward.
She couldn't tolerate Chen Chuan picking off her team members one by one. She needed to buy time for her teammates to adapt to their newfound strength and create an opening for them to join the fight.
She didn't move in a straight line but used her muscular legs to create diagonal lines, constantly changing her position. To those behind, her swift movements seemed to leave an afterimage.
Chen Chuan faced the gunfire without dodging, merely raising his hand to block the bullets that struck his protective armor. He kept his eyes on Sister Huan.
As she shifted to one side, he suddenly took a step in that direction, his body swiftly crossing over ten meters, intercepting Sister Huan's path. With a swift motion, he slashed with his unsheathed Snow Empress Blade, releasing a powerful sonic boom!
