Chapter 421: The Bitter Journey of Love
Chapter 421: The Bitter Journey of Love
"..."
"Oh... Hello? I'm a Red Sea Mermaid, Aya..."
"Hello, I'm a Catfish Mermaid."
Thud!
After a conversation that left the mermaid bewildered.
Lindsey picked up the hammer and with lightning speed, knocked out the mermaid.
The man lying on the ground, witnessing this scene, was terrified out of his wits. He hugged his shoulders and curled up, retreating.
As he backed away, he desperately shouted:
"What, what are you going to do?"
"If you have the guts, just kill me. Please don't torment me like this anymore!"
The Red Sea Mermaid still had the upper body of a beautiful girl.
But looking at Lindsey approaching, with a ferocious catfish headgear on his head, the man felt as if he had fallen into an even deeper, unfathomable abyss of darkness!
Knowing the effect of the headgear, which perfectly replicated the sensations of real-life creatures, the catfish head seemed so lifelike, as if it had truly grown out of a human's body.
Recalling his own treatment in the cave, the man's heart sank into a dead silence.
"It's me," Lindsey said, removing the headgear.
The man on the ground opened his eyes wide, stunned for a moment, before finally reacting:
"Mr. Lindsey?!"
Lindsey didn't want to waste time. He pried open the unconscious mermaid's mouth, fed her some sleepwort, and turned to leave the cavern.
"In short, I'm here to rescue you again."
"I've cleared a path outside. You go to the ship first, and be careful not to get caught by other mermaids."
The man scrambled to his feet.
But as he followed Lindsey, preparing to leave, his steps hesitated:
"I, I betrayed Nana."
"With what I've done, do I really deserve to be saved and go to Thousand Sails City to find her?"
This was a peculiar emotional struggle typical of humans in the throes of a passionate love affair. Lindsey turned to look at him, and his emotions were genuine, clearly on the brink of collapse:
"You've already gotten a mermaid pregnant?"
"Not yet!" The man quickly shook his head. "I've only been here for half a day, and her eggs haven't been implanted in my stomach yet."
Lindsey corrected him:
"You didn't consent, and you haven't emotionally rejected this relationship. How can you call it betrayal?"
The man's expression turned gloomy:
"But we promised each other that we would only have each other in this life."
"But now... I'm... not clean anymore..."
Alright.
This guy was a pure love warrior.
Lindsey hoped he would come to his senses.
But people...
In adversity, it's ideal to stand up for yourself.
But sometimes, in a state of vulnerability, you need someone to give you a helping hand.
Lindsey comforted him:
"You're the weaker party, the victim."
"Be firm and face your emotions. Think about whether your love comes from the soul or is just for this flesh?"
After saying this, Lindsey didn't waste any more time. He left this mermaid's cavern and continued rescuing others elsewhere.
As luck would have it,
After rescuing over 50 people, in the next mermaid's cavern, Lindsey encountered another familiar face.
The captain of the fish ship was lying there!
This captain had taken the initiative to negotiate with the mermaids on the deck, but he was the first to be knocked into the sea and dragged into the cavern.
By the time Lindsey arrived,
The captain's upper body was exposed, and even his pants had been stripped off. Though he lay in the gentle embrace of a beautiful mermaid, a sense of hopeless despair emanated from his dazed eyes.
"..."
"Hey, what kind of mermaid are you? You look so strange."
Thud!
Lindsey, with his practiced skill, moved forward and knocked out the mermaid with a hammer, then patted the captain's face.
"How are you?"
"Do you still have your senses about you?"
The captain was startled awake by Lindsey.
Like everyone else, the first thing he saw was Lindsey's catfish head, which gave him quite a shock.
"What kind of monster are you?"
Lindsey had no choice but to repeat the identification process:
"It's me, Lindsey, the passenger from your ship earlier."
The captain quickly recognized Lindsey:
"You... you're the violinist?"
"You escaped!"
Lindsey corrected him, "I wasn't captured in the first place."
The captain's identity was not that of an ordinary person.
So Lindsey straightened his gaze, explaining the current situation to the captain in detail: "Captain, I'll be brief."
"We need to find a way to leave this island as soon as possible, but the seafolk who were towing the ship are dead."
"You should have access to the passengers' information. Do you know who can operate the ship and take us off this island?"
Compared to the passionate man who was questioning his own innocence.
The Fish Ship Captain's will was obviously much stronger, and he and Lindsey quickly left the Mermaid Cavern, adjusting their state: "The Fish Ship itself is stable and doesn't need to prepare for subsequent propulsion."
"Among my sailors and I, no one can do this; as for the passengers—ordinary Awakened ones can't do this either."
Lindsey's gaze turned serious: "Is that so..."
Fortunately, his many years of sailing experience had given the captain a wealth of knowledge.
He thought for a moment: "It's not completely hopeless."
"Above the Red Sea, there are other deep-sea beasts living there."
"I've heard that some families have made pacts with these deep-sea beasts. If there's a corresponding person on board, we can find a way to summon these beasts to tow our ship and leave."
Lindsey nodded slightly, pointing at the ship on the water's surface: "The rescued people are all on board. You go back and reorganize the crew, and ask about the situation while you're at it."
The captain immediately took action:
"No problem, thank you so much for the rescue this time."
Lindsey and the captain went their separate ways.
However, as he stepped onto the path leading to his beloved ship, the middle-aged captain couldn't help but rub his belly with a complicated expression.
"..."
Lindsey continued to rescue people in the island's cavern.
Although he encountered some trouble, fortunately, these Red Sea Mermaids, engrossed in their own partners, had no time to pay attention to other situations.
After some effort, he managed to handle the trouble smoothly.
Two hours passed.
Lindsey was still in the Mermaid Cavern, rescuing victims one by one.
With each additional person, there was an additional glimmer of hope, so he naturally wanted to save as many as possible.
"Hmm?"
But just then.
Lindsey's steps faltered, and a string of words suddenly appeared in his task list:
[Journey of Love's Torment]
[Anthony, seeking true love, is being obstructed by destiny. Take him off Mermaid Island and set him back on the path of love.]
[Task Rewards: One-Time Windbag, Secret Nautical Map, Attribute/Skill Experience Points]
"Huh?"
Lindsey felt something was amiss.
During the storm attack, no task appeared; when discovering the island's secret, no task appeared.
Now...
Based on past experiences, Lindsey was certain that something was definitely happening.
He decisively stopped the rescue operation and walked out of the Mermaid Cavern.
As a result, he hadn't taken more than a few steps when he saw the love-seeking man walking out of the cavern, heading in his direction.
He quickly approached Lindsey, his tone full of excitement as he thanked Lindsey: "Mr. Lindsey, you were right."
"Love shouldn't be this lost; I believe true love will overcome all obstacles!"
