Chapter 421: An Encounter at Honeydukes
Chapter 421: An Encounter at Honeydukes
Harry, Ron, and Hermione climbed up the stairs one by one.
"Where are we?" Harry dusted himself off and looked around. It looked like a cellar, with crates and wooden boxes piled up all around, each labeled with dates.
"The Basement! To be precise, we're in the Honeydukes Basement!" Ivan explained.
Hermione glanced at Harry and reminded him, "Harry, put on the Invisibility Cloak quickly! We don't want anyone to see us."
"Sure", Harry nodded, putting on the Invisibility Cloak and disappearing from view.
Ivan then led them quietly out of the Basement.
Initially, Ron and the others were quite tense, fearing they would be discovered.
After all, sneaking out of someone's Basement would be disastrous if they were caught.
But once they were outside, Ron realized no one paid any attention to where they had come from.
It was far too busy here, packed with older students from Hogwarts, their laughter and chatter filling the air.
Shelves lined the walls, displaying a variety of delicious candies. Large pieces of creamy almond toffee, shiny pink coconut ice, golden-brown toffee, and hundreds of flavors of chocolate, all dazzling to the eye.
Especially the shelves against the walls, which held magical candies with special effects:
The variety and novelty were overwhelming, and Harry and Hermione, who were here for the first time, couldn't take their eyes off the displays.
Harry had never imagined candies could be so creative. Reading the descriptions, he was very excited and planned to buy and try every kind.
Apart from the wealthy Harry, Hermione and Ron were struggling to choose, their limited pocket money allowing them to buy only a few to try.
Ivan watched their excited and conflicted expressions and shook his head inwardly. Candies had a powerful allure for children, even magical ones.
Since they had some time before meeting Sirius Black, Ivan didn't want to force them to leave, so he let them enjoy themselves for a while.
"Blood-flavored Lollipops sound terrible. Who would like that except vampires? Do the Pepper Imps really make you breathe fire? What about the mint ice cream?" Hermione picked a few candies, then hesitantly put back the ones she wasn't interested in, turning to Ivan for his opinion.
Ivan shook his head; he had never tried them. As he was thinking of how to respond, he felt someone tap his shoulder.
"Looking for candies that make you breathe fire? We have them!" George and Fred approached, grinning, with an unbranded candy in their hands.
"This is our latest creation, guaranteed to be more interesting than anything here! How about it, want to try? It's free!"
Seeing them, Ivan was a bit surprised by the coincidence.
However, he had always been wary of the Weasley Twins' prank candies, so he shrugged and declined.
"We don't want to be your guinea pigs. You should save them for pranking others!"
"That's too bad! If you want them next time, it'll cost you", George shook his head in disappointment, then glanced at Ivan and the others, adding with surprise.
"By the way, where's Harry? Didn't he come with you? Still trapped in the castle?"
"Poor kid, didn't you tell him about the secret passage? He seems pretty unhappy lately. You should have brought him out for a good time!" Fred added, shaking his head in sympathy.
"Harry is safer at school, you know", Hermione glared at them, speaking in a high-pitched tone, but quickly realized it might be heard by a certain fugitive, so she lowered her voice, speaking carefully. "You know, Sirius Black is still after him!"
"Don't worry, we still have Ivan around. I think his magic skills are already on par with some of the Aurors. If Black dares to come, it would be perfect to catch him. Hahaha, maybe Ivan could even get another level up on his Order of Merlin."
George laughed as he tore open the candy wrapper in his hand and tossed it into his mouth.
However, the square candy shockingly paused in mid-air right by George's mouth, hovering there and slowly moving, gradually disappearing before their eyes.
From an empty spot nearby, the sound of "crunch, crunch" as someone chewed the candy could be heard.
What the hell?
George was instantly startled, and Fred's face showed a mix of surprise and confusion.
No, ordinary ghosts couldn't do that.
Hermione and Ron were trying to hold back their laughter. They, of course, knew what was going on.
Harry, hidden under the Invisibility Cloak, felt a burning sensation in his throat as if it were on fire after swallowing the candy. It was extremely choking!
Harry couldn't help but throw his head back and sneeze, a burst of scorching flames spewing from his mouth, nearly setting the nearby shelves on fire.
In what seemed to be an empty space, a few coughs soon echoed, followed by Harry's grumbling voice.
"This stuff is too spicy. You guys should really improve it!"
George and Fred, hearing the voice from somewhere unknown, took a few cautious steps back, only relaxing when they recognized it as Harry's voice.
They couldn't help but wonder how Harry pulled it off, but they were also curious about how he managed to do it.
"Was it the Disillusionment Charm? Harry, you actually mastered it!" George immediately thought of the Disillusionment Charm, guessing in amazement.
"We've been trying to learn it, but we still haven't got it down!" Fred couldn't believe it either.
"No, I don't know such an advanced charm. It was just the effect of the Invisibility Cloak!" Harry lifted the Invisibility Cloak a bit to reveal his face, then pulled it back over himself.
"Cool! That's really convenient!" George and Fred exclaimed. An Invisibility Cloak wasn't cheap, and if they had one, it would have made their outings much easier.
They might even have been able to go to places they always wanted to visit but never dared to.
At this thought, George and Fred looked enviously at each other.
Hermione, however, broke the cheerful mood with a serious tone. "Harry, you shouldn't do that. If someone sees you, you're in trouble!"
"Don't worry, no one was looking this way just now. George and Fred won't tell anyone!" Harry shook his head dismissively, not thinking it was that coincidental.
"Right, right! We're very tight-lipped!" The Weasley twins made a zipping motion over their mouths, promising not to say a word.
The group chatted and laughed for a while before George and Fred parted ways. Ron and the others also picked out their candies. Because it was inconvenient for Harry to show himself, Ivan had to pay for the candies on his behalf.
Then, the enthusiastic Harry, Ron, and Hermione dragged Ivan to Zonko's Joke Shop to buy many interesting prank items.
After playing for over two hours, Ivan finally found a reason to take them to a place rumored to be quite interesting.
Initially, trusting Ivan, Harry and the others didn't suspect anything. However, as they walked deeper into a more secluded area, they began to feel uneasy.
"Ivan, why are we here? It looks like there's nothing here."
After passing through a small forest and entering an abandoned house, Hermione finally couldn't hold back and asked.
Harry and Ron also looked at Ivan with confusion.
