Chapter 420: Odds of Victory
Chapter 420: Odds of Victory
As the thick smoke billowed across the bridge, it signaled the start of the attack. The assault team members, who had been hovering in the sky, began to descend and gather at the designated location.
Their sole focus was the offensive; they didn't need to worry about other areas. Behind them, a separate group would hinder the rescue operation beneath the sky bridge.
Meanwhile, the two Third Limit Combat Solvers they had hired were already waiting at one end of the bridge, near the Central City district. They weren't directly involved in the attack but were tasked with blocking anyone from reaching the bridge.
At the same time, people emerged from beneath the sea surface on both sides of the bridge, climbing up the bridge pillars. Not only in this section but also at the front and back of the bridge, figures appeared one after another, indicating a significant number.
These were all pre-positioned ambushers. Some were members of the assault team, while others were hired armed groups from overseas.
In reality, these individuals were cannon fodder, meant to create chaos and increase firepower, with little expectation of their effectiveness. From the beginning, the assault team had planned to abandon them.
The security team members on the convoy side finally reacted. They fired at the descending figures and those jumping towards them, but these individuals merely swayed their bodies and vanished from their original spots, too fast for the human eye to register.
The security team realized something was amiss. Their implants quickly released hormones and injected stimulant drugs, enhancing their neural response capabilities. However, even with this boost, they could only barely catch glimpses of the rapidly moving and jumping figures, and despite their guns firing continuously, not a single shot found its mark.
The assault team members who arrived were not limited to Third Limit Combat Solvers; there were also armed assault personnel of the First and Second Limits.
After landing, they returned fire at the security team members taking cover behind the vehicles.
Both sides wore protective gear, so despite the continuous gunfire, no one immediately fell. As the Third Limit Combat Solvers advanced, the security personnel blocking the road were either knocked aside or thrown to the other side, and even the vehicles blocking the way were easily pushed aside.
At this moment, Huan Jie also released her parachute, letting it drift towards the sea. She stood firmly on top of a guardrail pillar on one side of the bridge, observing the team members ahead. She asked, "Where's Jiang Huowang?"
A team member replied, "He's already gone up."
In the convoy, Chen Chuan's dedicated vehicle stopped, and he stepped out with his Snow Lady Saber in hand.
He first surveyed the situation, noticing people continuously climbing up the bridge on both sides, and in the sky, individuals maneuvered gliding wings, approaching one after another.
He ignored the ordinary gunmen and attackers, focusing on the Third Limit Combat Solvers among the assaulters.
With a quick glance, he realized the number of people was no less than the Viper Team's previous attack and that they also originated from the same source.
His gaze moved past the crowd to the distance, where he spotted a woman wearing a fitted suit and goggles, her muscular legs tensed and holding two long spikes. Her body language exuded strength and power.
Based on the reactions of those around her and her position, he deduced that she was likely the leader. Just then, a figure above him blocked his vision, and a person landed with a thud in front of him.
Chen Chuan looked up; it was a young man with medium-length hair, half of his face covered by a strand of hair, revealing the other half.
His skin had a faint greenish hue, and his eyes were unusually dark. In each of his hands, he held a triple-bladed saber, resembling extended claws with sharp, gleaming tips.
The man seemed exhilarated, staring intently at Chen Chuan. In a mix of foreign-accented and fluent language, he said, "You must be Chen Chuan. Let's fight..." followed by a string of unintelligible words.
As he spoke, his excitement seemed to get the better of him, and his body surged forward. He cracked the ground beneath his feet and closed the distance in an instant.
Chen Chuan glanced sideways; figures appeared on both sides, the Third Limit Combat Solvers he had spotted earlier. They were all focused on him, increasing the threat and pressure, though they hadn't made a move yet.
As he observed, his biofield expanded outward, allowing him to instantly detect anyone entering his range or attempting an attack. Moreover, he skillfully altered the field, making it impossible to discern his true abilities.
With his heightened focus, everything around him seemed to slow down, including the attacker rushing towards him.
He watched the approaching claws and the excited face behind them, his gaze calm and unyielding. He lowered his center of gravity slightly and took a step back.
As he sidestepped the claws, he reached forward, grabbing the attacker's arm. With a swift motion, he snapped the arm with a crisp crack. Before the attacker could react, Chen Chuan's head jerked to the side, dodging a bullet fired by a Third Limit gunman, a rare type of fighter.
The attacker, seemingly unaware of his broken arm, swung the other claw towards Chen Chuan. With a swift movement, Chen Chuan deflected the attack and threw the attacker away.
Huan Jie witnessed Jiang Huowang's unique ability to focus his mind and instantly defeat Chen Chuan, yet she remained composed, as did the rest of the team.
They were aware of Jiang Huowang's special physique, his secret Blood Concentration Technique, and his exceptional ability to absorb and store medicines, allowing him to recover swiftly.
As the two engaged in combat, the ambush team members on both sides of the bridge railing simultaneously fired net guns, securing the net on the other side of the railing and the bridge surface, about thirty meters away, instantly creating a giant net above Chen Chuan and the nearby vehicles.
While this net couldn't stop a Tier 3 Combat Solver, it could momentarily hinder them, which was sufficient for their plan.
Meanwhile, Meng Shu was seated in her specially reinforced vehicle, with thick protective armor and a stable structure, making it difficult to split or smash open easily.
After the initial attack, anchor devices were immediately inserted beneath the chassis, locking the vehicle onto the bridge surface, preventing it from being easily moved or overturned by external forces.
Despite the continuous bullets hitting the vehicle's body, Meng Shu remained calm.
Security personnel and vehicles moved up from behind, forming a protective circle around the main car, including Combat Solvers, who were vigilant, scanning the surroundings for potential threats like explosives or armor-piercing weapons.
Although their communication signals were initially blocked, they quickly activated the Field Bio in the communication vehicle to establish a strong signal connection, maintaining internal communication.
At this moment, a security captain on the Boundary Vessel suggested, "Miss, the enemy's main force is occupied with Chen Consultant. We can try to clear a path. Miss, do you want us to escort you out?"
Meng Shu calmly replied, "No, I'll stay here."
She then called out, "Li Ying."
A flash of light appeared in front, and Li Ying's figure materialized in the seat opposite Meng Shu, smiling as she asked, "Miss, what are your instructions?"
This time, Meng Shu not only wanted to bring Li Ying back to the company but also intended to keep Li Ying's body in the armed cargo truck behind them.
Meng Shu looked at Li Ying and said, "Li Ying, I hope to gather and eliminate all the incoming attackers here without using your physical body. Can you do that?"
Li Ying possessed direct attack capabilities, but they required her physical body, an option reserved for extreme situations. The government was highly vigilant about active conscious entities, so companies generally avoided such measures.
Li Ying smiled and said, "The focus right now is on Chen Consultant. As long as he can eliminate the attackers, your hope can be easily realized."
Meng Shu asked, "Li Ying, what do you think Chen Consultant's chances of victory are?"
Li Ying glanced outside and provided a statistic, "Ninety-eight percent." She turned to Meng Shu and smiled, "Even without my intervention, Chen Consultant can single-handedly annihilate all the attackers."
On the bridge, although Jiang Huowang was thrown off, his visibly twisted and shattered arm began to rapidly regenerate and reattach. His facial expression, however, became increasingly frenzied.
When Jiang Huowang displayed this behavior, the ambush team members were secretly startled and subconsciously moved away, knowing that during such moments, he often failed to distinguish between friend and foe.
Jiang Huowang let out a strange cry and charged towards Chen Chuan once more.
His cultivated secret technique was unique; when entering a specific state, his speed and strength increased, coupled with his formidable recovery ability, making him an incredibly challenging opponent in close combat. This was precisely why he was chosen.
Chen Chuan watched as Jiang Huowang approached, his speed impressive, yet in Chen Chuan's eyes, it wasn't enough. With a thought, Chen Chuan merged with Jiang Huowang, then took half a step to the side.
Jiang Huowang's vision blurred, and Chen Chuan's figure disappeared from his sight. Then, he felt his arm being grabbed again in the same spot as before.
Jiang Huowang was pulled by an immense force, followed by a dizzying spin, and with a bang, he was slammed onto the bridge surface, and a circle of cracks appeared where he was struck.
Although several ribs were broken, his life field remained robust, and the broken areas began to regenerate. Chen Chuan raised his fist, aimed at Jiang Huowang's head, and struck downward!
"Boom!"
In the instant Chen Chuan's fist descended, a loud gunshot echoed from a distance.
It was the Tier 3 Combat Solver with the gun, taking the opportunity to fire a shot he was confident Chen Chuan couldn't possibly evade. Even if he couldn't kill Chen Chuan, he could severely injure him.
However, as he looked towards the bridge, his mouth hung agape at the scene before him.
Jiang Huowang still lay on the bridge, but his head had already been smashed into blood meat shreds! Chen Chuan retracted his fist, which was emitting white mist, and slowly stood up, while a deformed bullet slid down the side of his head and dropped to the ground with a ding.
