Chapter 420: Lui Wei and the Chimaera
Chapter 420: Lui Wei and the Chimaera
Although Kyle had previously claimed to know where Lui Wei was located, he had only been there once, and that was when Hagrid took him there, taking a different route.
Now, in a completely unfamiliar place, he truly had no idea of the exact location.
However, there were other options.
Kyle opened the box and first persuaded Norbert, who was reluctant, to go back inside. Then, he stuck his head in and shouted loudly.
Soon after, a Billywig Bug flew out, swaying back and forth.
Billywig Bugs have a keen sense of smell, able to detect grass and herbal scents from miles away. Having spent a significant amount of time with Lui Wei, it was familiar with his scent.
This was the perfect opportunity to put it to use.
This was also the reason why Kyle declined Aragog's offer to guide them... Those giant spiders were not to be trusted, and who knew if they would cause trouble along the way.
As soon as it emerged, the little creature began to frolic and flew over to Newt, curiously examining him with its dark, shiny eyes.
Newt gave off a very comfortable feeling, like a warm sunflower. The creature enjoyed that sensation, and even when Newt raised his hand towards it, it naturally landed on his open palm.
"What a well-behaved child..."
Newt rubbed its belly with his fingers and smiled, saying, "I once encountered a Billywig Bug too, but it was too mischievous, always wanting to escape. No matter how I called, it wouldn't come back..."
As he spoke, Newt revealed a smile.
He remembered that Jacob's favorite magical creature was that very Billywig Bug.
After being stung by the Billywig Bug, Jacob would float in mid-air, and he loved that feeling. It made him feel like a wizard.
Unfortunately, he was just a Muggle... Well, the most ferocious Muggle, certified by the US Department of Magic.
Thinking of this, Newt laughed again.
Watching Newt lost in his memories, Kyle didn't disturb him but silently reached out his hand.
The Billywig Bug immediately flew back.
"We're going to see the Three-Headed Dog. Can you help us find the way?" Kyle asked softly.
The little creature nodded, flew around the area, and then headed towards a small path on the left.
Kyle and Newt quickly followed.
Lui Wei's location wasn't far from the Hollow where the Eight-Eyed Giant Spider resided.
After walking for about ten minutes, Kyle suddenly heard a loud, excited roar.
The ground began to vibrate, and Lui Wei appeared, running from a short distance away, breaking countless tree branches along the way.
Lui Wei stopped in front of Kyle, lowering his head excitedly, and his three tongues simultaneously lashed out towards Kyle.
Kyle quickly retreated, dodging the attack.
Lui Wei's tongue struck the nearby tree, peeling off a layer of bark.
Watching Kyle's movements, Lui Wei's three heads tilted simultaneously, seemingly confused as to why he dodged.
Hagrid had loved it when he did that.
Should he try again?
Seeing the Three-Headed Dog sticking out its tongue once more, Kyle quickly waved his hands, stopping this expression of joy.
Lui Wei was even larger than before, resembling a small mountain, and it didn't hold back in its attacks.
Kyle wasn't as tough as Hagrid, and such a tongue lashing would surely knock him unconscious.
He reached out his hand, and Lui Wei immediately laid down, its three heads eagerly pushing forward to enjoy Kyle's skilled petting technique.
Until it noticed Newt.
Instantly, Lui Wei's expression turned fierce again, but with Kyle's reassurance, it didn't move.
"Don't be nervous, kid. We've met before, remember?"
Newt slowly walked forward, standing before it with his hands outstretched.
When Kyle was in his second year, Newt and Lui Wei had indeed met, but with the Three-Headed Dog's intelligence, it was unlikely to remember for that long.
But Newt was not fazed.
He gently placed his hand on Lui Wei's nose and scratched each of its three chins.
With a few simple gestures, Lui Wei soon relaxed, closing its eyes contentedly while making soft humming sounds.
Suddenly, rustling noises came from the bushes on the right.
Kyle initially thought it was Aragog approaching, but when he turned his head, he realized it was something else.
In the bushes, a pair of bluish eyes gazed at them cautiously. In the moonlight, he could vaguely make out a lion-like body and a long tail with a poisonous stinger behind the eyes.
It was a Chimaera.
Seemingly aware of the commotion, it approached on its own.
As Kyle looked over, the Chimaera immediately let out a deep growl, "Human, leave this place!"

However, before Kyle could speak, Lui Wei became agitated. It abruptly stood up, and all three of its heads roared at the Chimaera.
The Chimaera did not back down and responded with a roar identical to Lui Wei's.
"The Chimaera is famous for its exceptional language skills," Newt explained from the side, "When this creature was first discovered, due to its human-like head and ability to speak, it was classified as a 'person' alongside Centaurs, Sirens, and Vampires."
"But later, people found the Chimaera's temperament too ferocious for communication, so in the year 1269, it was removed from the list of 'persons'."
As Newt spoke, the argument between the Chimaera and Lui Wei escalated, and it was clear they had not reached a consensus.
Thus, the two hot-tempered creatures started fighting without further ado.
The surrounding trees suffered as a result, with a large area being knocked down and crashing to the ground with a thunderous sound, even temporarily drowning out their roars.
Originally, the Chimaera had the advantage of speed and its poisonous tail, making it unafraid of Fluffy.
However, due to its injured hind legs, it couldn't run fast, and within a few minutes, it was knocked down and pinned to the ground by Lui Wei, its tail also being stepped on.
"Human, I surrender!"
It looked at Kyle and Newt, "I promise not to harm you, just make this fool release me."
Kyle raised an eyebrow, "This... is hard to communicate with?"
"There are exceptions to everything," Newt smiled, "Not everyone can have a three-headed dog by their side."
"That's true."
Kyle walked over and patted Lui Wei's tail, and only then did it reluctantly release its claws.
The Chimaera turned around, quickly getting up from the ground, while simultaneously taking a big step back, keeping its eyes on Lui Wei and maintaining a relatively safe distance.
"Fool..." it cursed first, then turned to Kyle, "Human, you shouldn't be here."
"We mean no harm," Newt stepped forward, raising one arm high and the other low, lifting one leg slightly, leaning forward, and standing in a strange, comical gesture.
"Relax, we mean no harm, we just want to help you..."
Following Newt's signal, Kyle began gesturing in a similar manner.
Although a bit embarrassing, it was indeed effective. Strangely, the Chimaera's caution diminished, and it made no move to stop them as they slowly approached.
In fact, this wasn't Kyle's first time doing this, yet he still found it incredible.
He couldn't understand how Newt had researched these gestures.
