Chapter 420: It's Better Inside the Guild
Chapter 420: It's Better Inside the Guild
Hellfire Dragon was annoyed by the arrogant name, and Natsu couldn't stand anyone looking down on Igneel.
Both of them had fiery temperaments, so the solution was simple: a good old-fashioned fight.
And so, Natsu stepped up.
Then Natsu was knocked down.
Hellfire Dragon's attacks were slightly heavier than Mountain Dragon's, and its tail, thicker than a human waist, lashed out, striking Natsu without hesitation.
Its massive claws, capable of grasping a person with ease, also delivered powerful blows.
While ordinary flames might not harm Natsu, Hellfire Dragon didn't need flames to deal with him.
Rod yelled for his teammate, asking him to go easy.
But Hellfire Dragon paid no heed, continuing to pummel Natsu. The young dragon was resilient, but his older brother didn't seem to care.
Rod had initially planned to fight Natsu in his Hellfire Dragon form, but now he could only carry Natsu back.
Instead of Rod, Cancer carried Natsu.
"Sorry, he hit a bit too hard," Rod apologized, looking at Natsu's bruised and swollen body and the bumps on his head. He felt a bit guilty.
Happy had already forgiven Rod on Natsu's behalf, "It's okay, Natsu sometimes looks like this after his training."
By 'training,' he meant tying Natsu to a tree and letting boulders roll down the hill to toughen him up...
It was an absurd training method.
Rod had witnessed it once before, and if you were talking about brutal training, Natsu's was even more intense.
"That damn dragon, I'll definitely fight back... Ouch!" Natsu tried to sit up, but his injuries rubbed against Cancer's shell, causing him to grimace in pain.
Rod held him down, "Just lie still, we're almost home."
Natsu and Happy's home was outside the city, a self-built house at the foot of a small hill, surrounded by... well, excellent greenery.
Even the outer walls of the house had branches growing out of them.
It was clear they didn't care much about their home's appearance.
The inside of the house was even more chaotic, with dumbbells of various sizes scattered everywhere, and clothes, towels, and containers strewn all over the floor, leaving barely any space to walk.
Happy led the way, with Rod carrying Natsu over hills and mountains to follow.
While Rod carefully avoided the 'obstacles,' Natsu kicked or stepped on them without a care.
Happy casually pointed, "Just put him here."
Rod looked, "The hammock? Are you sure?"
"Yeah, just toss him on it, it's fine."
After all, the injuries weren't too severe, and Natsu had thick skin.
"Alright," Rod released Natsu, letting him flop onto the hammock and sway gently.
Not only did Natsu not cry out in pain, but he soon started snoring softly, and it seemed like he'd be back to his energetic self after a good sleep.
"There's some external wound medicine here, you can help Natsu apply it later," Rod left after leaving a bottle of potion.
The night had grown late, and the streets were quiet, but the streetlights remained lit, attracting countless tiny insects that swirled and danced in the glow, some even crashing into the lampshades.
By tomorrow, there would likely be many insect corpses beneath the streetlights, adding to the workload of the cleaners.
Rod, for once, took a leisurely stroll down the street alone, without Cancer, Worm, or Mira by his side.
At this hour, they were probably still having a blast.
He wondered what activities they had planned for their sleepover party.
Bats flew overhead, feasting on the airborne insects.
Bored, Rod took off one of his shoes and tossed it into the air.
Immediately, a bat flew towards the shoe, diving in sync with its descent.
But as it neared the shoe, it deftly veered away.
As a child, he had heard that throwing a shoe like this could catch a bat, and he and his friends had tried it countless times, but no one had ever succeeded.
Rod chuckled, retrieved his shoe, and threw it again, repeating the process...
Simple pleasures.
No one knew that when the Fairy Tactician was alone, he indulged in such childish games.
The next morning, Rod first went to collect the clothes hanging on the balcony, including his own, Mira's, and a bedsheet.
He wasn't sure if Mira had returned home the previous day, so he couldn't go to her place for breakfast.
He decided to collect the clothes first and return them to her later.
Upon further thought, he realized he also had a set of clothes at Mira's place that he hadn't retrieved.
He considered it a hostage exchange of sorts.
However, as he finished his morning exercise and was about to head to work alone, he suddenly remembered that he needed to go to Mira's place that evening to retrieve his clothes.
The unedited version can be read at 6x9xBookxBar! 6x9BookxBar, the first release of a novel.
The following evening, he would go to Mira's place to return her clothes.
The day after that... By then, Elfman should be back, so he would think of another excuse to invite her over.
Perhaps something like, "My Poro can do backflips, do you want to come and see?"
As he pondered various ideas, he arrived at the guild entrance, where Kana was leaning against the wall. Her hair was in disarray, and her clothes were slightly dirty. She held a bottle of alcohol, pouring it into her mouth.
However, only a few drops came out, and Kana, unsatisfied, licked her lips. "Finally, someone's here. I thought the guild was sealed by the Council of Judges."
"When did you get back? And so early, too," Rod took out his keys and opened the courtyard gate, then the hall door.
"I returned last night, slept at the door, and when I woke up, I found that most of the alcohol in the bottle had spilled. So, I came to the guild."
That was quite a mouthful of information.
Did she pass out at the door last night without even unlocking it? And this morning, instead of going home to freshen up, she came straight to the guild to drink?
"Sleeping at the door... You're something else," Rod wasn't sure what to say to her, "Where's Loki?"
"That ungrateful guy. After completing the mission, he went straight back to the Spirit Realm, saying he'd come back after resting."
"Didn't you cause any trouble this time? Like not paying back your bar tab or something?"
"How can I cause trouble every time? I'm not Natsu. Besides, the Council of Judges isn't functioning yet, so the bar doesn't keep track of their tabs."
"You actually tried that?" Rod was momentarily stunned. He had only been joking, but he didn't expect Kana to be so bold.
"Don't nag me about it. Anyway, I didn't end up owing them," Kana followed Rod to the counter, ignoring whether the stool was wiped or not, and sat down, slapping the table, "Hurry up and bring me some alcohol. I've been waiting for ages. Deduct the cost from my payment."
Kana's previous mission, like Erza's, was to raid the Dark Guild, and her reward was to be collected from the guild, so she was still broke for now.
Rod sighed, "Wait a moment. I'll go to the kitchen and check."
"There are so many bottles on the shelf. Hurry up, or I'll get it myself."
"Just sit tight for a bit. Those aren't suitable for drinking in the morning."
"Tsk... Why does drinking have to be restricted to mornings or evenings?" Kana complained but didn't actually go to get the alcohol herself.
Rod went to the kitchen and brought back a small jar and a small dish.
He placed a dish of Poro cuisine and held the jar of alcohol close to his chest, "Have something to eat first."
"..." Do all guys with girlfriends know how to take care of people like this? Kana picked up a Poro dish, which resembled a cookie, and began to crunch it noisily, saying indistinctly, "I've already eaten. Give me the alcohol now."
Rod brought a small wine glass and poured some for her, "Mr. Cook's rice wine, to warm your stomach and relieve fatigue."
Kana lifted the glass and sniffed. It smelled wonderful, but when she drank it, she found the alcohol content too weak, though it tasted great.
After finishing two pieces of Poro cuisine and two cups of rice wine, Kana felt much better.
Although she could drink whenever she wanted outside, without anyone nagging her, it was indeed more comfortable inside the guild.
