Chapter 42: Treasure Detector
Chapter 42: Treasure Detector
Boom!
The deafening explosion echoed through the silent night, spreading far and wide.
Su Nan watched calmly as dust rose hundreds of meters away. He petted the cat on his lap, patiently waiting.
Soon, the direction of the manor was filled with the deafening sounds of battle cries and screams.
Just by the sounds, Su Nan could vividly imagine the members of the Starfire Cult rushing to the gates, only to find no one around. Their confusion would turn to terror as invisible attacks erupted around them, leaving them bewildered and panicked.
Unless a High Knight or a higher-ranking official intervened, the ordinary Starfire Cult members were nothing more than lambs waiting to be slaughtered by the Hidden Dragon.
They would die without ever knowing where the attacks came from.
The battle lasted about four or five minutes. Then, the invisible Hidden Dragon burst out of the manor, sprinting away into the distance.
Three figures pursued it closely, one of them with an incredibly formidable aura, sprinting faster than the Hidden Dragon itself.
"Probably a High Knight, likely the High Priest responsible for this outpost."
"The other two are also Knights, probably Priests."
The Starfire Cult's outpost in Stone Bell City was managed by a High Priest and eight Priests.
Two Priests had died in Black Rock City.
Another two had perished in last night's battle.
That meant there were at most two Priests left in the manor.
"Meow, will Little Hidden be okay?" Amy asked, worried.
He didn't know when she had started calling the Hidden Dragon by that name.
"Don't worry, it'll be fine," Su Nan reassured her.
The Hidden Dragon's ability to shift between solid and ethereal forms was especially advantageous in the complex urban environment. If it focused solely on escaping, even a High Knight would have no chance of catching it. They would only be led in circles, running farther and farther away.
After a patient wait, estimating that the three pursuers had run a considerable distance, Su Nan emerged and walked toward the manor.
He wasn't skilled in infiltration.
After all, he lacked the appropriate spells and magical items.
But infiltration wasn't necessary.
The remaining defensive forces in the manor posed no threat to him.
The most important thing was to quickly eliminate any obstacles and find his target.
In the courtyard, which was a mess of chaos, a group of Starfire Cult members were busy tending to the wounded. They were taken aback when they saw a man and a cat saunter in.
Regaining their senses, one of them immediately realized something was wrong and raised his weapon, shouting, "Who are you—"
Crack!
Before he could finish, a bolt of lightning struck him, turning him into a charred heap!
More lightning and fire erupted, sweeping through the entire courtyard!
None of the Starfire Cult members present were even a Knight. Su Nan manipulated the energy particles with ease, effortlessly dispatching them all.
"Where is the thing you're looking for?"
Su Nan looked at Amy, who was perched on his shoulder.
The little creature lifted its head, tilted it to the side, and sensed the energy particles. "In that direction! The energy particle concentration is very high there!"
Without a word, Su Nan dashed in the indicated direction.
Starfire Cult members who heard the commotion jumped out to block his path but were swiftly killed, unable to even slow him down.
The manor wasn't large, and it took only four or five minutes for Su Nan to reach the area with high energy particle concentration.
Before him stood a tightly closed iron door.
A splash of acid dissolved a large hole in the door. Su Nan bent down, squeezed through the opening, and descended the stairs.
A spacious basement lay before him.
Night pearls embedded in the ceiling emitted a soft white glow, illuminating the entire basement as if it were daylight.
Along the walls, numerous wooden racks held various items.
Most of the items were books, around thirty to forty of them.
There were also several rings, necklaces, bracelets, and a considerable number of cloaks, daggers, and swords.
Su Nan's eyes lit up, and he immediately walked over to the bookshelf, scanning through the titles.
Philosophy of Magic, Planar Biology, The Burning Hand, Magic Alarm, Magic Missile, Ray of Enfeeblement, Basics of Magic Item Crafting, Compendium of Low-Level Magic Items, Design and Construction of a Magic Crystal Forge, Magic Rune Core.
The array of books filled Su Nan with delight. Among them, there were seven or eight books on first-level spell models, and even one on a second-level spell model.
The remaining books also contained a wealth of practical knowledge.
For example, Basics of Magic Item Crafting could accelerate his learning of magic item crafting. Compendium of Low-Level Magic Items would provide him with design blueprints for future magic item creation. Design and Construction of a Magic Crystal Forge was, as the name suggested, the blueprint for a magic crystal forge.
The forge in Su Nan's laboratory was just a basic one. If he could create a magic crystal forge, the cost of refining Black Rock Leopards would be significantly reduced, and he would have the foundation to create higher-level constructs.
"However, I've never heard of a Magic Rune Core. Is it a magic item?"
Su Nan shook his head. Now wasn't the time to study it; his priority was to take everything with him. Without hesitation, he stored all the items in his synthesis cube.
After a moment's thought, he also removed the night pearls from the ceiling and stored them before turning to Amy.
"Are all your master's things here?"
Amy nodded vigorously. "Yes, they are."
"Good. Next, we'll find the Divine Blood Amber."
"No problem, meow. The Divine Blood Amber is over there." Amy pointed to the right.
Su Nan's steps halted, and he looked at Amy in surprise.
"You can sense the location of the Divine Blood Amber?"
"Meow, I've memorized the energy fluctuations of the Divine Blood Amber. I won't be wrong."
Amy tilted her head, looking puzzled as if to say, "Isn't this normal?"
Su Nan was speechless.
He had thought Amy could only sense the concentration of energy particles, but it turned out the little cat could perceive the more fundamental energy fluctuations! The difference between the two was like night and day.
The former, a wizard (apprentice) with sufficient mental power or the ability to cast detection spells, could do the same, though the range might not be as far.
The latter, however, could serve as a treasure detector. By memorizing the energy fluctuations, it could find similar high-energy items.
When it came to searching for treasures, this ability was incredibly practical!
Su Nan's gaze toward Amy changed, as if he were looking at a precious treasure.
He had already been considering taking Amy back to Black Rock City, and now he was even more determined.
With Amy around, his future searches for magic items and exploration of wizard legacies would undoubtedly be much easier.
Amy, unaware that someone was already eyeing her, was overjoyed to have successfully retrieved her master's belongings. She was now eagerly urging Su Nan to find the Divine Blood Amber.
Regaining his composure, Su Nan left the basement, bending down to squeeze through the hole in the iron door.
As his body passed through the opening, two gleaming longswords struck from either side, aiming for his neck and chest.
Please don't just read and leave, new books need support during their early stages. I beg for your support!
