Chapter 42: Mu Yue's Interest in Sealing Jutsu
Chapter 42: Mu Yue's Interest in Sealing Jutsu
On Saturday afternoon, Mu Yue returned to his home in the main city.
After several instances of sharing meals and drinks, their relationship had become more familiar. Mu Yue directly invited the two over to his place before he started cooking.
"Yushi, what dishes are you planning to make today?" Kurenai asked curiously.
On the few occasions she had eaten at Mu Yue's place, Kurenai had never come across the same dish twice.
It wasn't just the variety that impressed her, but the fact that Mu Yue managed to make everything taste delicious. This left Kurenai feeling both admiring and envious.
"Mushroom soup and stir-fried mushrooms," Mu Yue replied, pointing to a plastic bag filled with mushrooms next to the sink.
During lunchtime, the ingredients that Stop and the others had prepared were too much for them to finish, including various types of fish, wild vegetables, and even a wild boar they had hunted together. Mu Yue had brought home the leftovers.
Aside from the fact that wild mushrooms were particularly fresh, they had to be thoroughly cooked to avoid food poisoning. Otherwise, one might end up not just with an upset stomach but also lying in bed, unable to move.
"These aren't wild mushrooms that you picked in the forest, are they?" Kurenai asked, noticing the varying sizes and types of mushrooms, which didn't seem like something one would buy from a store.
This reminded her of the first time she had mooched a meal at Mu Yue's place and teased him about whether he had added some oddly colored mushrooms that caused her to hallucinate.
If there really were such mushrooms in the mix, combined with Mu Yue's culinary skills, eating them would be no different from falling under an illusion technique.
Mu Yue nodded and said, "During lunchtime, I had a picnic in the forest with a few of my students, and we ended up with more ingredients than we could finish. So, I brought the leftovers home."
"You even go on picnics with your students, Yushi?" Kurenai asked, a hint of envy in her voice.
In her six years of attending the ninja academy, she had never come across a teacher as considerate as Mu Yue, who would take the time to organize picnics with his students.
"Those students and I have a pretty good relationship," Mu Yue explained.
"Do you need any help, Yushi? I can wash the vegetables," Minato offered, not wanting to freeload.
"Then, Namikaze, help me wash the mushrooms while I prepare the wild boar meat," Mu Yue said, not one to refuse help. He immediately assigned a task to Minato.
If one were too polite, it wouldn't be conducive to the growth of their friendship.
Emotions were a two-way street, and only by giving and taking could they flourish.
Since there were three of them, Mu Yue planned to make three dishes: mushroom soup, stir-fried mushrooms, and braised pork.
In his previous life, he didn't know why, but the mere sight of fatty meat made him nauseous. However, the only fatty meat he could tolerate, and even enjoy, was the fat and lean layers of braised pork. Braised pork with preserved vegetables was one of his favorite dishes.
However, as he didn't have any preserved vegetables at hand, he could only make the braised pork without it.
"What about me, then? What can I do?" Kurenai asked, feeling a little left out as she watched the backs of Mu Yue and Minato working together. It almost seemed like the two of them were brothers cooking together, leaving her as an outsider.
"There isn't much more space here, so you can just sit down and wait for the food," Mu Yue replied.
After all, this wasn't a restaurant kitchen, and three people cooking together would only get in each other's way. Two people were just right, and there wasn't much that needed to be done anyway.
So, the bored Kurenai sat down on a chair in the living room and picked up a book that was casually placed on the small table.
"Hmm?" Kurenai's eyes widened in surprise as she read the title on the cover. It was a book related to sealing jutsu.
"'What is Sealing Jutsu'? Yushi, why are you still reading books like this? Just from the title, it doesn't seem promising. It would be better if you..."
Kurenai paused as she turned the page and saw the name 'Uzumaki Kushina' on it.
"Ahem," Kurenai coughed lightly and reorganized her thoughts. "This book is actually not bad. Mu Yue, you should read it carefully."
"So, Mu Yue, you're still interested in sealing jutsu?" Kushina asked curiously.
"Very much so. It seems mysterious and powerful," Mu Yue replied, his eyes sparkling with fascination.
"Indeed, if you're looking to increase your strength, sealing jutsu is a great choice," Minato nodded in agreement.
The three of them chatted about sealing jutsu until the food was ready. Mu Yue spent most of the time listening, occasionally interjecting with novel ideas that made Minato and Kushina feel a sense of accomplishment.
Kushina first tried the braised pork, and the moment it touched her palate, she was hooked. The tender, fatty meat with its perfect balance of flavors caused her to scoop a large mouthful of rice to accompany it.
"This is delicious! Why haven't I tasted this dish before?" Kushina instantly fell in love with the flavor of the braised pork.
"If you want to learn, I can teach you," Mu Yue offered with a smile.
"Deal! Tomorrow evening, Namikaze and I will buy the ingredients for you," Kushina eagerly nodded.
After saying this, Kushina glanced at the plate of stir-fried mushrooms and noticed that more than half of it was already gone. Minato had been continuously eating rice as they discussed teaching her how to cook.
"Hey, leave some for me, Namikaze!" Kushina forgot her manners and immediately started eating as well, not wanting to miss out.
The first bite was a success, and Kushina was amazed by the freshness of the dish.
After their satisfying meal, the three of them went for a stroll together. As they walked, they chatted about Mu Yue's teaching anecdotes and Minato and Kushina's task-related stories.
...
With only two days left until the tournament, Mu Yue began Obito's final training session.
"To make your ninjutsu more impressive, aside from nature transformation and chakra quantity, you can also alter its form to make it look more formidable," Mu Yue explained.
"But is there enough time? We only have two days left," Obito scratched his head, feeling uncertain.
"Of course not," Mu Yue replied bluntly. Obito didn't possess strong innate talent in ninjutsu.
"However, you don't need to master shape transformation. All you need to do is learn the enhanced Fireball Jutsu that I've modified."
In order to ensure that Obito secured first place and maximized the training reward, Mu Yue had put in a lot of effort.
He had specifically modified the Fireball Jutsu to make the fireball appear larger, even though it didn't actually contain more fire, thus maintaining its original power.
In simpler terms, it was designed to be intimidating.
After all, the upcoming Genin tournament wouldn't involve combat; each participant would simply demonstrate their ninjutsu, and the one with the highest score would win.
"Teacher Mu Yue, you're my savior!" Obito exclaimed, feeling incredibly relieved and confident about his chances of winning. With Mu Yue's guidance, he believed that victory was assured, and Kakashi didn't stand a chance against him!
"Since you've made such a grand request, I, as your teacher, will naturally do my best to help you," Mu Yue smiled, intentionally fostering a sense of reliance on him as a teacher.
"Hehe," Obito replied, a little embarrassed.
"Now, get to training," Mu Yue said as he playfully tapped Obito's head.
"Yes!" Obito immediately began his training, eager to defeat Kakashi and claim the top spot in front of Rin.
