Chapter 42: Display
Chapter 42: Display
For those at the bottom of Black City, filling their stomachs was already a luxury, and any consumption unrelated to food was a shameful waste.
However, human nature remains unchanged.
On top of satisfying one's hunger and thirst, there are always further desires.
Iron Fist Abe was no exception.
Alcohol!
Made from grain.
In Black City, it was an unaffordable luxury, but now jars upon jars were laid out on the table for him to drink to his heart's content.
"Ah, that hits the spot!"
Abe slammed the jar down on the table, his face flushed red, and he roared:
"This wine is just right!"
"Of course," his deputy, Les, said with a smile as he held a piece of roasted meat:
"Little Hend specially sent someone to buy this from Veltrey City. It's a good thing there too."
"Boss." One of the men below raised his head and asked:
"I heard Hend has made something of himself?"
"Haha..." Abe burst into laughter upon hearing this, feeling invigorated, even happier than if he had drunk fine wine:
"That's right."
"He found a noble knight to be his teacher. The knight has no children and is raising him as his heir."
"Good!" Deputy Les cheered loudly:
"When Little Hend becomes a knight in the future, we'll have a place to turn to when we leave Black City."
"Yeah."
Abe nodded slowly.
These people were his core team in Black City, and in the future, they could become his son's support.
Trusted allies.
"Come!"
"Drink and eat!"
"Although the conditions in Black City are not ideal, if you work hard, you can get many things that are not available outside."
"Like beast meat, weapons, armor, and even spells..."
"Yes."
Abe took a sip of wine:
"You guys have worked hard these years. Send more beast meat over so my son can be promoted to knight early."
"You'll have your rewards when the time comes!"
This was also the reason he had stayed in Black City all this time.
For those at the bottom of Black City, leaving was almost hopeless.
But for people like Iron Fist Abe, leaving Black City was not difficult; staying, however, brought many benefits.
"Haha..." Everyone laughed and said in unison:
"Definitely, definitely."
"After we get out, I'm going to find a soft, big bed and sleep for days and nights."
"You're pathetic. What's so good about a soft, big bed? If you're looking for something soft, it should be a soft woman, right?"
"Haha... If it's a woman, do you think he'll still be able to get up after days and nights?"
"Are you looking down on me?"
The atmosphere in the room was filled with laughter and chaos.
Iron Fist Abe, holding a jar of wine, laid back with a drunken smile, his consciousness blurry, half-asleep.
Suddenly.
"Thud..."
A muffled sound came from outside.
He blinked his eyes with effort, and before he could react, more than ten cold lights shot in from outside.
Following closely were several figures, rushing into the room and unleashing a massacre.
In the blink of an eye, several partners he had known for years, as close as brothers, were lying in pools of blood.
Even Deputy Les was in a dangerous situation, surrounded by several attackers.
Hmm?
"How dare you!"
Abe roared and slammed the table.
Aya came prepared.
Perhaps she wanted Karl to recognize her again, so she called for more than ten helpers.
In addition to Eve Dorn from last time, she also called a black-haired man.
Along with Xiaonan.
There were three knight attendants, and in terms of numbers alone, they were not inferior to Iron Fist Abe.
"Move!"
Aya leaned forward, her eyes cold, and with a flash, she appeared in the manor behind a patrolman.
Her wrist trembled, and a dagger shot out, slicing across the man's throat.
Having survived in Black City until now, no one was kind, and Aya was no exception. She killed without blinking, as if she were slaughtering a chicken.
"Pff!"
Blood splattered.
The others sprang into action, swiftly eliminating the outer guards. Eve wielded a pair of short swords, while the black-haired man brandished a crescent blade, both fighting with exceptional agility.
Hmm...
Karl watched with a pensive gaze.
Compared to the Patrol Hall's knight attendants, these people from Black City fought with a ferocity that was hard to match.
Not to mention one-on-one.
Even in a two-on-one or three-on-one situation, the pampered colleagues from the Patrol Hall would likely struggle against these opponents.
In the blink of an eye, a group of people rushed into the core of the manor, and Aya waved her hand, signaling for the rear team to follow.
Immediately after, they raised their arms, revealing sleeve arrows and short crossbows, cautiously approaching the windows to aim at their targets.
Then, they pulled the triggers.
"Bang!"
"Swoosh..."
"Pffft!"
Instantly, over ten arrows pierced the room, accompanied by a series of screams and thuds as Aya and her group fearlessly charged into the room.
"Kill!"
"Die!"
"Clang..."
One side was well-prepared, while the other was caught off-guard, resulting in a one-sided clash as they met in close combat.
Xiaonan held a wooden shield in her left hand and wielded an axe in her right, roaring as she furiously attacked her opponents.
She was born with immense strength, and Karl estimated that her current power was no weaker than his own, rivaling many of the long-serving knight attendants.
In a single charge, she had taken down three people, instantly drawing most of the attention in the room.
Eve and the black-haired man, without a word, worked together to surround one of the knight attendants.
Their coordination was seamless, clearly not a result of a few days' practice. One attacked head-on while the other assisted from the side, each strike aimed at a vital spot.
With the support of the bowmen...
"Pffft!"
The crescent blade pierced the opponent's chest.
Eliminated!
However, the brief chaos allowed the others in the room to regain their senses, and they roared as they launched a counterattack.
The people from Black City were accustomed to slaughter, and their attacks were frenzied.
Even when stabbed multiple times, even in vital spots, they would grasp their opponents before death, attempting to take them down together.
Astonishingly, not a single person chose to flee.
It was unbelievable!
These people were more like ferocious beasts with their rationality consumed by their violent nature.
"How dare you!"
Amid the roars, Iron Fist Abe swatted away an incoming arrow with a slap, then grabbed someone and slammed them onto the ground.
His strength was terrifying; a living person weighing over a hundred pounds was turned into a meat paste.
"Boss!"
Seeing this, the besieged deputy, Les, roared, "It's Aya!"
Aya?
Iron Fist Abe's eyes widened in realization, recalling the name that had been frequently mentioned to him recently.
That little girl? How dare she?
"Looking for death!"
With a furious roar, Iron Fist Abe's foot slammed into the ground, creating a shockwave that sent him flying like a cannonball towards Aya.
His target was Aya, who stood at the front of the group.
"Get out of the way!"
Xiaonan tried to intercept, but she was knocked aside, shield and all, by Iron Fist Abe's force.
As for Eve and the black-haired man, they exchanged a glance, deciding to abandon Aya and focus on Les, the deputy.
Even if Iron Fist Abe was powerful, he couldn't possibly win against both Les and the others combined.
As for Aya...
They were only invited to deal with Iron Fist Abe, not to ensure Aya's safety.
"Get out of the way!"
"I'll keep her here!"
Iron Fist Abe charged forward, enduring several slashes as he pursued Aya, who was attempting to flee.
His speed was astonishing, and within a few breaths, he had caught up to Aya, who had stopped in the courtyard.
Besides Aya, there was one other person in the courtyard.
"Iron Fist Abe?"
Karl stared at the figure, then raised his left hand.
The Flame Seal.
"Boom!"
A ball of fire roared out.
