Chapter 42: Discipline and Newspapers
Chapter 42: Discipline and Newspapers
"I must have... Ah! I owe you from my past life!"
"Are you my brother? You... Ah! You're clearly here to collect a debt!"
"If I had known it would be like this, I should have... Ah! Before I was even born, I should have... Ah! I should have fought you then and there!"
"Waaah, I'm sorry, Sister! I... Ah! Go easy on me, don't get tired... Ah!"
As Lyon returned to Veteran Alley with two stacks of newspapers, even before reaching the doorstep, he could hear his little sister's heart-wrenching cries from afar, along with the crisp sound of palm-slapped buttocks.
In addition, there were six or seven smelly little rascals wiping their tearful eyes while standing at a distance, cheering and clapping in the direction of Lyon's home.
"Waaah, it's great, Sister Anna is finally getting her punishment!"
"Yes, yes, we've finally waited for this moment!"
"I've been waiting for days too. She's finally getting disciplined!"
"Sister Anna must live a long life, or else no one will be able to control her!"
"..."
Alright... I guess I know what's going on...
Lyon surveyed the pitiful little rascals, and upon spotting horse manure in one of their teeth, his face darkened. He quickly raised the newspapers he had brought to cover his face and hurriedly walked towards the door, blocking the rascals' gazes from outside.
Before Lyon even reached the door, the sound of palm-slapped buttocks abruptly stopped. Anna, in her white dress, opened the door, her eyes red from crying, and called out to Lyon.
"Brother..."
"Let's go inside and talk!"
Feeling uncomfortable under the resentful stares of the little rascals, Lyon quickly supported Anna's shoulder and led her back into the house. He hastily closed the window shutter, blocking the rascals' gazes, and finally felt some relief.
"Waaah, big brother, I'm sorry!"
After Lyon and Anna entered the house, even before Anna could start complaining, Melanie, who was well-versed in the process, rushed over and hugged Lyon's leg tightly.
While dodging Anna's attempts to catch her, Melanie spilled the beans, quickly explaining the cause and effect of the incident.
"How about... we leave it at that for today?"
After hearing the general reason, Lyon sighed, feeling a bit sympathetic as he looked at Melanie's tearful eyes, which resembled two little peaches. Reluctantly, he took on the role of a mediator and began to persuade them:
"Stuffing horse manure into a child's mouth deserves a beating, but it was those children who started it. Melanie can't be entirely blamed for mischief this time, and seeing her cry like this, she must realize her mistake.
"She doesn't know she's wrong!"
Watching Melanie circle around Lyon while secretly glaring at William, Anna couldn't help but wipe her tears and said angrily:
"Brother! You don't understand the situation at all! Our family has already... Ah! We've barely made it this far, and we've received so much help from our neighbors. Is this how we repay them? Let me go! Today, if she dares to stuff horse manure into someone's mouth, she'll definitely do something worse next time!"
"Brother, Sister is right."
Just as the two sides were at a stalemate, Lyon hesitated about whether to let go when William, still pouting, suddenly turned his head and added seriously:
"Melanie told me at noon that she thought Sister would get punished after returning, but if something like this happened again, she would still do it, but with a different method.
She thinks that although the horse manure is big, it's not smelly enough, and it's not as effective as cat or dog poop. So, yesterday afternoon, she forced me to pick up a lot of dog poop and insisted on hiding it in my old shoes, planning to try it tomorrow...
Brother, I think you should really give her a good beating.
“
“……”
“……”
“Ah! I'll fight you to the death!”
Caught off guard by the sudden betrayal, Melanie let out a desperate scream first, then released Leon's thigh and lunged at William with her arms flailing and teeth bared.
However, with her short arms and legs and slow movements, she had only taken half a step when Anna grabbed her, flipped her over, and slammed her down over her knee. She then pulled down Melanie's pants and proceeded to deliver a brutal spanking.
“I'll teach you to fight to the death… Who are you fighting with? Huh?”
“I won't fight anymore, I won't… Ah! I was just joking!”
“I'll teach you to joke… So, will you still be joking when you promise not to do it again? Huh?”
“No, no… I really mean it! Ah! I really mean it!”
“You really mean it? So, are you really going to try it with dog droppings tomorrow? Huh? Speak up!”
“I'm not! Ah! I'm not! You're being unreasonable!”
“……”
Forget it, dealing with kids is something Anna is familiar with, so I won't interfere. It wouldn't be good if I end up spoiling them.
Leon glanced at Melanie's swollen bottom with a look of pity, then turned to his brother, who was still standing with his bottom in the air, and couldn't help but remind him:
“Why don't you… put your pants on first?”
“No problem, bro!”
William shook his head, cracked his knuckles, and said confidently:
“I've calculated it. Sister still has fifteen more to go, so if I put them on now, I'll have to take them off again. I'll put them on after she's done.”
“……”
Forget how he came up with that number, just looking at the enthusiasticI“Battle” raging on, I knew Anna wouldn't have the time to hit you today.
“Alright… just be careful not to catch a cold…”
After giving his one-track-minded brother a few words of caution, Leon picked up the two stacks of old newspapers he had brought and turned to his own small room.
According to Leon’s original plan, he had intended to buy some new newspapers, but he had no money in his pocket, and his calculations didn’t enough to last until payday, so he had gone to the Cleanup Bureau to ask if there were any newspapers available. In the end, he had taken some from the room of Senior Emma.
Leon wasn’t really interested in the news from the newspapers; he just wanted to use the reporting topics from various newspapers to find a few that were the most fearless in stirring up up. The age of the newspapers didn't matter, as long as he just wanted to read the Water Supply Company’s issues.
Sitting down at the old table with one broken leg, Leon spread the newspapers out and became serious. Amidst Melanie’s cries, he began The The Hornicle News, Financial Times, Dance Entertainment, New Industrial Times… these are out of the question. They seemed to mainly report industry-related news, not much about the public.
Illustrated News, Critic Review, Sun, also out of the question. The name of the paper is a dead giveaway, so it’s clear Leon shouldn’t choose it…
So, it seems there are only three left to choose from now.
After picking through a large stack of newspapers, Leon finally selected Daily News, Royal Mail, and Capital Evening News.
As Leon was still hesitating, the door to the second bedroom was knocked.
“Brother has finished.”
William, now with his pants on, suggested in a mature tone:
“Melanie is okay. Sister didn’t hit her too hard, she just needs to rest for a while, but after hitting her, she went straight to her room to cry. Do you want to go and comfort her?”
