Chapter 419: The Battle for Holy City (Part 1)
Central Feanso Plain, just outside the Sacred Fedran capital of Teotihuacan.
A hundred-meter-tall white City Wall stood upon the earth, stretching for a hundred li without end—majestic and awe-inspiring. The weathered surface of the wall bore countless colossal golden Sun Sacred Emblems, etched deep into its stone. Yet even this towering fortress could not conceal the sight of the "Eternal Sun God's Tower" within the city. The spire pierced the sky, its peak soaring sixty-eight levels above the ground watch, crowned with a gleaming golden hemispherical dome. From any vantage point across the central plain, one could look up and behold the radiant face of Amanata.
In the past, on every Summer Solstice, the sun’s face atop the tower would pour forth endless Radiance, filling every soul within the city with inner peace and warmth in their bodies. This was the "City of Solar Radiance," Teotihuacan.
Travelers, merchants—anyone who had once set foot here would be left in stunned awe, bowing before the unmatched might of the Sacred Fedran Empire. Even now, though the Eternal Sun God's Tower had dimmed and the once-great Holy Faedran Empire had crumbled into fragments, the grandeur of the Holy City still bore witness to the glory and splendor of its fallen age.
Outside the city, the ground was riddled with craters. Smoke-soaked air hung thick. Dry bloodstains stained the earth, corpses piled high, and among them lay the remains of Divine Offspring—some with wings still sprouting from their backs. This grim scene was commonplace across the ravaged battlefield. Even the City Wall itself was scarred with craters and cracks—testaments to the dozens of wars fought over this city by the three great kingdoms.
Upon the thick white wall, banners of Cassander fluttered in the wind. Armored warriors in heavy gold plate raised their weapons high, roaring in unison. Among them were spellcasters clad in dazzling, luxurious long robes, their bodies adorned with sun-shaped spines. They held staves, their magic gemstones pulsing with radiant light, conjuring a golden protective barrier beyond the wall.
Massive golden siege crossbows were trained on the enemy outside. Cassander soldiers heaved with effort, loading thick, burning arrows that blazed with intense heat.
Shouts of war echoed endlessly:
"Praise the Sun!"
"For the Kingdom of Cassander!"
"Otis the Emperor is the true ruler! Kill these rebels!"
"It was these rebels who caused the Sun God to abandon us! Only by eradicating them can we welcome the Emperor's return!"
On the wall, a towering man in golden armor, his horned helmet heavy and dark, raised one arm high, his eyes blazing with fierce, searing light. He roared aloud:
"Ile, Duke of Divine Offspring!"
"Victory!"
"Fight for Otis the Emperor! Fight to restore Sacred Fedran!"
The moment Duke Ile spoke, the entire wall erupted in fervor. Cassander soldiers shouted in unison, their auras blazing like fire.
The Divine Offspring of Cassander Kingdom typically appeared as towering, pale-skinned, flawlessly proportioned beings—living statues clad in heavy armor. Blessed by the Sun God, they had been granted the strength akin to the celestial beings of the Upper Plane, the so-called "Supreme Heaven," earning them the title "Titan Divine Offspring." And their king, Otis Aragon, was no different.
"Silence!"
"This is outright rebellion!"
From the heavens above, a warrior woman descended with overwhelming presence, her back adorned with massive, radiant wings of divine glory. In one hand, she gripped a greatsword crackling with explosive divine energy, pointing it down at the wall where Ile stood.
"Ile! You are the true rebels! You are the ones who drove the Emperor away!"
"You have abandoned your Faith!"
Her eyes burned with the same fiery light. Her helm bore the sacred sun emblem at its center, flanked by wing-shaped metal ornaments. Each sweep of her wings sent cascades of ember sparks swirling through the air.
She was Tirena Sta Angel—another Divine Offspring Duke, a Legendary Holy Knight who had also received the Sun God’s Bestowal. Like Ile, she had been granted strength akin to the celestial "Aetherian Divine Race," earning her the title "Angel Divine Offspring." And her king, Wilhelm Aragon, was the same.
Behind her, hundreds of winged warriors—light-armored and swift—flew in formation above the Holy City, nearly blotting out the sky. Yet their wings, though vast, paled in comparison to Tirena’s divine radiance.
With a mighty sweep, she raised her greatsword and cried:
"Cassander fools! You are arrogant and blind!"
"Brothers and sisters! Reclaim the Holy City!"
"Reforge the glory of Faedran! Reclaim Teotihuacan!"
Her golden wings unfurled behind her, drifting like molten light, lending the moment a sacred, transcendent aura.
"Reforge the glory of Faedran! Reclaim Teotihuacan!"
From the sky, the Divine Descendant Army roared in unison. From the ground, the Thrace soldiers echoed the cry. The sound thundered across the heavens, drowning out the enemy’s voice.
On the ground, the army was not only made of mortals. Reinforcements from the Kingdom of Seleucus—Divine Offspring warriors—had arrived. They bore the strength of supernatural beings: some with horse heads, others with deer heads, and even those with dragon heads.
Amanata sometimes revealed his favor—or wrath—through these manifestations: Jade Dragon, Sapphire Dragon, Steel Dragon, Sun Hawk, Brown Dog, Milky White Cat, Snow White Wolf, and Pure White Stallion.
The Divine Offspring of Seleucus had inherited the power of these beings, their heads transformed into those of the sacred creatures—earning them the name "Divinely Favoured Offspring." And their king, Iloti Aragon, was said to be one such being—of dragon-headed form.
All three kingdom banners flew above the battlefield, each bearing the Sun Sacred Emblem—but each with a distinct variation. Cassander’s emblem bore the sun crossed with sword and shield. Thrace’s showed the sun with outstretched wings. And Seleucus’s displayed the sun beside a side-facing dragon head.
"Holy City belongs only to Cassander."
"Once Otis the Emperor reclaims Thrace and Seleucus, the Empire’s glory will return. The Emperor Aragon will finally rest in peace."
Ile narrowed his eyes, gazing at the allied forces entrenched on both ground and sky. Then, with a surge of will, he swung his greatsword high into the air and bellowed:
"Soldiers of Cassander Kingdom! Guard this Holy City to the death!"
"Kill the rebels!"
Whoosh—
A crescent-shaped blade of searing heat and fire tore through the sky, streaking toward the heavens, aimed directly at Tirena.
"Kill them!"
"Kill the rebels! Guard the Holy City!"
The generals on the wall shouted in unison.
At the same moment, massive bolts shot down from the wall’s peak—like a storm of lightning, descending upon the enemy forces beyond. Cassander’s Arcane Legion spellcasters raised their staves, unleashing waves of luminous light, fire, lightning, and hurricane-force winds from the fortress walls.
The assault from Cassander was nothing short of a cataclysm.
War—had begun.
And this was no longer the first battle for the Holy City.
