Chapter 419: Sudden Raid
Chapter 419: Sudden Raid
After speaking with Yan Yi, Chen Chuan prepared to head to the White Bird District. Just then, the phone on his desk rang.
He walked over, picked it up, and said, "I'm Chen Chuan."
"Chen, classmate?" a familiar voice came from the receiver. "It's Luo Kaiyuan."
"Luo, classmate?"
Chen Chuan was slightly surprised, smiling as he said, "Luo, classmate, it's not yet our break day. What's the matter? Do you need something?"
Luo Kaiyuan said, "Chen, classmate, regarding the recent Infinite Defense Certification - Class C assessment, the three of us passed. However, our academy only has one recommended quota this year. The results just came out, and Wei Dong obtained the recommended quota."
_Wei Dong got the recommended quota?_
Chen Chuan was surprised again, but after some thought, he realized Wei Dong, although a bit reckless, was indeed the most talented among Luo's group.
This meant Wei Dong would likely enroll in the Central Institute next year.
Luo Kaiyuan continued, "Although we didn't get the quota, I discussed with Xiao Qi, and we've decided not to stay in Yangzhi. Instead, we want to come to the Central City."
Chen Chuan smiled, saying, "Great, when are you coming over?"
Luo Kaiyuan and Feng Xiaoqi, although unable to obtain citizen status, would have far more resources available in Central City than in Yangzhi. Staying in Yangzhi might forever limit them to the second tier, but in Central City, there was a chance to reach the third tier.
After all, his former dorm mates were among the best students in their year, outstanding even among Yangzhi's Wu Yi students. Reaching the third tier would make citizen status a non-issue.
"Wei Dong will enroll in the Central Institute next year. We'll come with him then."
"Good, I'll return during the New Year, and we can meet then."
Luo Kaiyuan said goodbye, then added, "By the way, Chen, classmate, the people from the Fenhong Society told me someone has been inquiring about you recently."
"Oh, really?"
Chen Chuan's heart slightly stirred.
"Yes, it shouldn't be a local from Yangzhi; they wouldn't need to ask around. Chen, classmate, be careful."
Chen Chuan said, "Got it, thanks, Luo, classmate. Please thank the Fenhong Society students for me."
After discussing this, they chatted about other matters before hanging up. Just then, a reminder popped up on his interface: the company-assigned car had arrived downstairs.
He quickly gathered his belongings, took the Snow King knife, and headed down to the car, bound for the White Bird District.
En route, Wu Ju contacted him, warning that although Meng Huan's influence within the Fusion Boundary Company had been cleaned up, the Meng Huan incident involved many people and interests. The next two days might not be entirely secure, so he should be cautious.
Chen Chuan acknowledged.
Since discovering the tail the other day, he had been on high alert, but there had been no similar incidents since.
Luo Kaiyuan's call about someone inquiring about him, possibly the same group, indicated they hadn't given up and were still digging for leads.
He thought for a moment, then said, "Wu Ju, I'd like to request something for my Resonator: permission to use public interface points for the next two days."
Wu Ju replied, "Caution is warranted, especially with tomorrow's events. You're aware of the situation within the bureau; due to the Ring Curtain's vulnerability, the personnel we dispatched for guard duty are still stationed there and won't be returning. We must also reserve manpower for special situations.
The surrounding guards, bound by duty, won't act without seeing a situation, so if something happens, try to stall as much as possible. However, I'll reiterate: if the situation becomes unbearable, prioritize your retreat, regardless of others."
Chen Chuan said, "Understood, Wu Ju."
Just then, his interface beeped, and Wu Ju sent over a map with a dotted route marked.
Wu Ju explained, "This route is our recommended path. If you encounter issues, the guards in this area can respond quickly."
Chen Chuan studied the map carefully, noting that while it would take a detour, safety would be significantly enhanced. However, one vulnerability remained.
After brief contemplation, he marked a point on the route.
The car arrived smoothly at the White Bird District, entering the Meng Estate, where Chen Chuan observed increased security personnel compared to his last visit. The courtyard was filled with armored vehicles, and the previously damaged area had been fully restored.
As he stepped out of the car, Yan Yi greeted him, and they headed towards the building. In the elevator, Yan Yi said, "Mr. Chen, we've prepared the prisoner you requested."
Chen Chuan thanked her.
Yan Yi had indeed handled things efficiently, preparing the prisoner without needing specific instructions.
Arriving at the upper floor, he first met with Meng Shu and handed over the route map provided by the Processing Bureau.
He said, "I've reviewed the Bureau's planned route and find it feasible, but there's a stretch that requires attention. Be prepared, as there's a high chance of an ambush on your way to the company. But recently, someone has been targeting me, so this ambush might not be solely aimed at you."
Meng Shu said, "You're the company's Chief Security Advisor, so whether they target you or me doesn't make much difference. If needed, I can arrange for a change in the company's leadership."
She clearly understood that Chen Chuan was the most reliable force for both Fusion Boundary and herself. If Chen Chuan were gone, her source of strength would significantly diminish. Thus, targeting Chen Chuan was essentially the same as targeting her and the company.
Chen Chuan thought for a moment and said, "If they're only targeting me, it's simple. But if they're targeting you, then even if we avoid them this time, they'll come again. This only postpones the conflict; it doesn't eliminate it."
He turned to Meng Shu and said, "In my opinion, we should take this opportunity to deal with them, especially since they're willing to show themselves now."
Meng Shu said, "What do we need to do? I'll have my people cooperate."
Chen Chuan said, "The security arrangements can remain as usual. If we encounter the enemy, I might take the initiative to attack. That way, you'll have an empty spot beside you, so I suggest having Aunt Yu accompany you for protection."
Although Meng Lei also needed protection, as the former head of the company, her safety wasn't as crucial. Moreover, Meng Lei's public appearances were made through a body controlled by a consciousness coordination device, and only Meng Shu likely knew where her true body was. Even if it were destroyed, it wouldn't be of much concern.
Meng Shu nodded and said, "I'll talk to Grandpa."
Chen Chuan discussed some details with her, and after finalizing them, he returned to the room arranged for him.
He stayed in the room for a day, during which he took another dose of the special medicine.
Perhaps because he had only recently entered the Third Limit, the medicine's effects were evident, and he felt a slight improvement with each dose.
He also considered that continuously using the special medicine might lead to diminishing returns over time, but for now, he didn't need to think about that. As long as he maintained his strength, he would find more channels.
On November 19th, a long convoy of armed vehicles departed from the Meng Family Estate, heading towards the Fusion Boundary Corporation in the Central City District.
This time, Chen Chuan didn't sit with Meng Shu; instead, he sat in the vehicle behind hers to avoid simultaneous attacks. Both cars were specially modified, so even if something happened, he could react in time.
There were several lead cars ahead of the convoy, sending updates every three minutes to inform them of the situation ahead.
After traveling for over three hours, the convoy left the White Bird District and entered the Sea Crossing Sky Bridge.
As they crossed the highest point of the bridge, approaching the final stretch, and with just over twenty minutes left before entering the Central City District, the security personnel in the lead vehicle suddenly sensed something and looked up.
They saw numerous dark dots in the sky heading towards them.
At first, they thought they were just birds, but upon closer inspection, they realized they were people wearing gliding wings, likely leaping from the rooftops of the coastal buildings.
They immediately notified those behind them.
At this moment, the figures in the sky continuously adjusted their directions, quickly approaching the bridge. Several of them glided over the lead vehicles and headed directly towards the rear, and as they passed by, they scattered a few tire-piercing nails onto the bridge's surface.
One of the figures in the sky, wearing a special boundary vessel, scanned the vehicles below and said, "Huan Jie, through vehicle analysis, the target is highly likely in the twenty-second vehicle from the rear, and the target's protection object is in the vehicle behind it."
Huan Jie's voice came through, "Execute the second set of plans, include both vehicles and nearby vehicles in the attack range."
Although their target was Chen Chuan, it was necessary to attack Meng Shu's vehicle as well to force Chen Chuan to stay put.
"Received!"
The team members at the front of the convoy had already reached the vicinity. Their parachute bags opened with a bang, creating a brief obstruction, and they quickly released the hooks, leaping down onto the tops of the moving vehicles and the ground below. Their powerful legs only slightly sank with the impact, absorbing the force.
One of the team members looked up and saw the suspected target vehicle about twenty meters ahead. With a flick of the wrist, they threw out several customized smoke grenades and flashbangs, creating a smoky, fiery, and explosive scene on the bridge.
