Chapter 419: Poor Harry
Chapter 419: Poor Harry
"Why? Professor Lupin?" Harry asked sharply.
"He's been unwell these past few days and can't give you your lessons", Severus Snape explained, then sneered. "And Potter, you should know that he specifically asked me to substitute for him these days!"
Harry didn't believe a word of it!
Everyone in the school knew that Snape had always wanted to be the Defense Against the Dark Arts class professor and had a long-standing conflict with Lupin.
For instance, Neville had once dressed the Boggart that had transformed into Snape in women's clothing during one of Lupin's classes and won his praise.
Harry suspected that Snape might be harboring resentment and might have taken advantage of Dumbledore's absence to harm Professor Lupin. So he insisted that Snape tell him how Lupin was doing.
"I'll only say this once: he's still alive and not in any danger!" Snape said impatiently, his hollow eyes staring at Harry.
"It's class time now, sit down, Potter!"
However, Harry didn't move. He was more worried about Lupin than afraid of being punished by Snape.
"Gryffindor loses ten points! If you don't sit down in three seconds, I'll take away fifty more!" Snape said, his words deliberate and clear.
Harry was furious but had no choice. He sat down reluctantly, knowing that Snape always followed through on his threats to deduct points.
"Don't worry, Harry, Professor Lupin is fine", Ivan said, seeing Harry's worried and frustrated expression.
Ivan knew exactly what was going on with Lupin. It was because of the approaching Full Moon Night and the effects of the Wolfsbane Potion that he was feeling weak and unwell.
What puzzled Ivan was that the Wolfsbane Potion he had made according to the formula provided by the system didn't have this flaw.
He wondered if it was because Snape hadn't completely reversed the formula or if he was deliberately trying to make things difficult for Lupin.
"Have you seen Professor Lupin these past two days? How is he?" Harry asked anxiously in a low voice, suspecting that Lupin might be seriously ill or being targeted by Snape, which was why he couldn't come to class.
Ivan couldn't tell Harry that Lupin was a werewolf, so he reluctantly said that he had seen Lupin yesterday and that he was fine, just feeling a bit unwell.
Harry finally put his worries to rest.
Snape's Defense Against the Dark Arts class was very different from Lupin's. There were no fun and laughter, only cold, hard facts, and the occasional sound of points being deducted from Gryffindor.
Moreover, Snape completely ignored the course schedule and had everyone turn to page 394 to learn how to identify and kill a werewolf!
"Potter, tell me, how do you identify a werewolf Wizard hiding among people?"
During the class, Snape suddenly asked.
"I don't know, Professor! We haven't covered this yet. According to the course schedule, we should be learning—" Harry began to explain.
"It's my class now! I don't need you to tell me how to teach!" Snape interrupted Harry, then surveyed the room, looking disappointed.
"I really didn't expect a group of third-year students to be unable to identify a werewolf.
It seems that when Headmaster Dumbledore returns, I must emphasize to him that our new Defense Against the Dark Arts class Professor is not as competent as he imagines!"
The young Gryffindor Wizards present all wore expressions of indignation, and even a few Slytherin students disagreed with Severus Snape's statement.
Their slow progress in the course was not due to Professor Lupin's fault.
It was because their previous two Defense Against the Dark Arts class Professors were so terrible that Lupin had to make up for the missed lessons.
Moreover, the knowledge about werewolves was on the last page of the textbook, and according to the plan, it was supposed to be covered at the end of the semester.
Ivan shook his head inwardly. Snape was relentless in his targeting of Lupin, and teaching this content now was clearly aimed at hoping someone would use this knowledge to expose Lupin's Werewolf identity.
"Silence!" Seeing the young Wizards whispering among themselves, Snape raised his voice to stop their behavior.
He then ignored Hermione's raised hand and proceeded to teach everyone how to identify a Werewolf Wizard by certain facial features.
He emphasized the brutality of werewolves, even going so far as to say that the Wizarding world often experienced Werewolf attacks, which made some of the more timid young Wizards feel like they were listening to a horror story.
"Another important characteristic that distinguishes a Werewolf Wizard from an ordinary Wizard is that during every full moon, they transform into irrational werewolves, causing significant damage."
At this point, Snape paused and then continued, "Some werewolves hide their identity by regularly drinking a potion called Wolfsbane Potion. This allows them to retain some rationality while transformed."
Wolfsbane Potion?
Upon hearing this, many young Wizards turned to look at Ivan. If they remembered correctly, Ivan had won a second-class Order of Merlin last year for developing the Wolfsbane Potion.
"Oh, it seems I nearly forgot that we have an expert in Werewolf research here", Snape's gaze also fell on Ivan, and a look of disappointment appeared on his face.
"Unfortunately, our expert doesn't seem to know as much about werewolves as the reports suggest."
Snape was extremely dissatisfied that Ivan had not exposed Lupin's identity after several months. He suspected that Ivan had already figured out Lupin's identity but chose not to reveal it for some reason.
The young Wizards below couldn't understand what Snape was saying,
but Ivan knew exactly what Snape meant. However, he had no intention of playing along.
He didn't even stand up to answer questions during the class, fearing that saying too much might increase the likelihood of Lupin being exposed.
The Defense Against the Dark Arts class soon ended with Snape's gloomy voice.
After class, as they walked down the corridor, Harry couldn't help but vent the anger he had been holding in during the entire lesson.
"Why do we need to learn how to distinguish between normal Wizards and Werewolf Wizards? This isn't something we should be learning now. Does Snape think a Werewolf is lurking among us? That's just ridiculous!"
