Chapter 418: Plague Queen
Chapter 418: Plague Queen
In the Land of Wano.
The shogun's mansion.
"These are the finest brews, and I'd be most grateful if Mr. Queen could take them back to present to Kaido-san. Also, please put in a good word for me with him," Kurozumi Orochi, the shogun of Wano Country, said with a smile as he rubbed his hands together in front of a fat man who weighed at least a few hundred pounds.
The fat man was named Queen, and he was currently one of the two top commanders of the Beast Pirates, alongside Jack the Drought and King.
Although to outsiders, Kurozumi and Kaido may have seemed like equals, in reality, there was a clear hierarchy. Kurozumi wouldn't dare offend Kaido in the slightest, and he was extremely polite even to Kaido's top commanders, Queen and King.
The reason was simple—Kaido could destroy him at any moment.
As far as Kaido was concerned, it didn't matter who governed Wano Country, as long as they obeyed him. Kurozumi's position was less secure than that of Queen and King.
"Rest assured."
"You've given me the best cooks for making mochi and azuki bean soup, so how could I not look out for you? Hahaha..."
Queen, with a cigar in his mouth, rubbed his bald head and walked over to a huge palanquin nearby. "Alright, my boys, let's go!"
Although Kurozumi was incompetent, he knew how to schmooze. Neither Queen nor King particularly disliked him, and they would usually just laugh and scold him when they heard of his misdeeds.
"Take care, Mr. Queen."
Kurozumi saw them off all the way to the mansion's entrance, waving at Queen.
However, just as Queen's subordinates carried the fine wine and left, and a few burly men lifted the palanquin to slowly make their way forward, a loud rumbling sound suddenly came from not far away.
The palanquin came to an abrupt halt, and both Kurozumi and Queen turned their heads toward the direction of the sound, seeing the sky in that area filled with a crimson hue, as if flames were raging.
"What's going on!"
Kurozumi frowned and demanded of the people next to him, "Isn't that direction the red-light district?"
Shu!
Fukurokuju, the captain of the Oniwabanshu, appeared behind Kurozumi and said, "Yes, General. We previously discovered some suspicious ninja, and I sent people to capture them. It's in the red-light district, and there should be a fight going on right now."
As he finished speaking, another rumble was heard, this time sounding like a gushing stream. A sizzling noise accompanied it, and the burning street was suddenly extinguished, replaced by white steam rising from the ground.
The rushing water flowed forward,
quickly reaching Kurozumi's feet.
Rumbling!!!
Then came another loud rumble, like the sound of a mudslide.
"Is all this commotion just from capturing a suspicious person?" Kurozumi looked at the water that had already soaked his feet and turned to Fukurokuju.
Fukurokuju had already sensed that something was wrong, and a thin layer of cold sweat appeared on his forehead. "Lord Kurozumi, something seems amiss. I must go and take a look immediately..."
"Go!"
Kurozumi shouted angrily.
Fukurokuju immediately rushed toward the red-light district.
"Looks like you're in trouble, Kurozumi."
Queen, sitting in the palanquin with a cigar in his mouth, looked toward the red-light district. White steam still filled the sky there, swirling and spreading.
Kurozumi's expression turned pained. "It seems like something unexpected has happened."
Queen blew out a puff of smoke. With his chubby face, he smiled and said, "Well, since I have some free time, I might as well go and take a look for you... Hmm, it seems to be on the way anyway.
"It's no trouble at all."
Queen patted the palanquin and said, "Orochi, are you coming with us?"
Orochi rubbed his hands together and waved at his subordinates, gesturing for another palanquin. "Since Mr. Queen is going, I might as well tag along and see what's happening."
After the two men settled into their palanquins, they began their slow and swaying journey towards the red-light district.
...
Red-light district.
When Fukurokuju arrived, the first thing that caught his eye was the crowd of geisha and other patrons gathered on the outskirts of the district, their faces frozen in disbelief as they stared at the direction of the red-light district.
"What...?"
"Damn it!"
Fukurokuju's forehead broke into a cold sweat as he took in the scene. The red-light district was an important source of income, accounting for nearly a third of the entire Flower Capital's earnings. If it had been destroyed, not only would he have to answer to Orochi, but he would also incur the wrath of Kyoshiro.
As he looked up, he spotted two figures hovering in the air above the desolate landscape. One wore a white kimono with a light blue trim, adorned with cherry blossom petals, and the other appeared to be a young girl of twelve or thirteen.
"You should learn to fly on your own, Robin."
Feng Ye retracted his gaze from the ground below and smiled at Robin, who was hugging him from behind.
"Fly?! How do I learn to do that?" Robin asked, a hint of surprise in her voice.
"Your Devil Fruit ability can be developed to include flight," Feng Ye explained with a smile.
While he could infuse a portion of his chakra into Robin's body, granting her access to his bloodline limit, he felt it was better for her to unlock the potential of her Devil Fruit on her own.
After all, Robin's Devil Fruit held immense potential, capable of unlocking a plethora of different... well, abilities.
Feng Ye descended from the sky with Robin, landing on top of a building just outside the red-light district.
"... "
Kyoshiro stood not far away, his gaze fixed warily on Feng Ye. He gripped the hilt of his sword but held back from attacking, as he was still unsure of Feng Ye's identity. Moreover, when he had fled the red-light district earlier, Feng Ye had made no move to pursue him.
Whoosh!!
Just then, Fukurokuju's figure leaped onto another rooftop nearby. He glared at Feng Ye and demanded, "Who are you to dare destroy the red-light district? This is a capital offense! Which village do you belong to?!"
Robin released her hold on Feng Ye and stood beside him, ignoring Fukurokuju as she pondered Feng Ye's earlier suggestion about using her Hana Hana no Mi abilities to develop flight.
Feng Ye turned to Fukurokuju and smiled gently. "If I had to say... I'm from Konohagakure."
"Konoha?" Fukurokuju furrowed his brow, puzzled. He had never heard of such a ninja village. "So, it's a covert organization, then."
