Chapter 417: What Are You Looking At?
Chapter 417: What Are You Looking At?
Rod thought he misheard and stared at it in shock.
The Hellfire Mountain Dragon, seeing Rod's hesitation, glared at him with its vertical pupils, "What are you staring at?"
"Staring at you..." Rod quickly backtracked, "Just wanted to see how you're different from the Mountain Dragon."
"What difference could there be? We're both dragons with two eyes, four legs, and a big mouth. Hurry up, don't waste time," the Hellfire Mountain Dragon urged.
"I heard from the Mountain Dragon that you're not very enduring. While you still have some strength, come on, give me a punch and show me what you've got. Don't hold back, hit me with all you've got."
Who's not enduring? My fiancee is watching right here! Rod immediately absorbed the Mountain Dragon Soul and summoned the Crimson Marked Treant, adding the Ember Crown for good measure.
"You want me to hit you?"
He had already figured it out. If the Mountain Dragon was a mix of steadiness and a bit of tsundere, then this Hellfire Mountain Dragon was a straightforward, hot-tempered old brother.
Since it asked for his all, he would give it his all.
Rod pushed off the ground, and the wings on his back flapped vigorously, propelling his entire body like a meteor towards the Hellfire Mountain Dragon's head.
He clenched his right fist, which suddenly grew several times larger, a huge fist the size of a cauldron, carrying the momentum to crush mountains and split valleys. He struck out with tremendous force.
"Hey... Hey, damn it! What are you doing?!"
The Hellfire Mountain Dragon seemed a bit intimidated by the Treant, wanting to stop Rod but not having enough time. It couldn't bring itself to dodge or counterattack, so it closed its eyes, allowing Rod's fist to land on its forehead.
Bang!
Like a boulder thrown into a pool of lava, the spot where Rod's fist made contact erupted with dazzling sparks, scattering like blacksmith's sparks and quickly cooling down and extinguishing. They fell to the ground, turning into fist-sized rocks.
The Hellfire Mountain Dragon's head tilted back, and Rod flapped his wings to retreat.
He shook his hand, and the burnt rock layer on his right hand peeled off, revealing the unharmed hand underneath.
Rod, imitating the Hellfire Mountain Dragon's tone, asked, "How was it? Did you like it?"
"Not bad, little brother. That punch really packed a punch."
The Hellfire Mountain Dragon shook its head; this punch was not just enjoyable, it was exhilarating.
This little brother was indeed straightforward, asking for his all but not expecting him to hold back! It liked his personality.
"But, little brother..." The Hellfire Mountain Dragon spoke with a heavy heart, "Next time, don't do that with your own kind. It hurts like hell."
"Okay... Will there be a next time?"
"You never know, I might get an itch and come out to spar with you again. Alright, once you master this, I'll introduce you to other dragons."
The Hellfire Mountain Dragon snapped its fingers, and a fiery red orb flew out, entering Rod's chest.
Rod sensed it and realized it was the Hellfire Dragon Soul.
"Alright, I'll be off. Call me whenever you need a sparring partner. I'm not good at anything else, just fighting."
The Hellfire Mountain Dragon's figure gradually faded, leaving behind a final instruction:
"Oh, and next time, just call me, no need for that long introduction. It's getting on my nerves..."
Rod sent the Treant back and placed his hands on the slightly heated ground. The outer edge of the fire brought by the Hellfire Mountain Dragon began to rise, forming a circular rock wall to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Estimating the height, Rod had the Magic Statue carry Mila to his side, and then he controlled the rock wall to collapse inward, burying the flames and lava.
"Phew..." Rod breathed a sigh of relief as his body returned to normal.
Mila jumped down, holding Rod's arm, and asked with concern, "You've been talking for so long, are you tired?"
Rod denied, "No, I have great stamina."
Mila didn't understand why he was being stubborn, "This dragon seems quite easy to communicate with.
"Hmm, I wonder if it's because I've grown stronger or if it's a personality thing."
The Mountain Dragon gave him a disdainful flick of its tail before discreetly handing over its dragon soul.
The Hellfire Dragon was much more straightforward; after testing his strength with a punch, they became fast friends, and the dragon soul was casually tossed his way...
Obtaining the dragon soul after a fight, even without killing it, seemed to fit the game's setting.
"Wait till you see my new form later!"
With others, he might have kept it a secret, but with Mira, all he wanted was to show her as soon as possible.
It was like a peacock spreading its tail.
But Mira no longer needed such displays.
"Let's head back and rest, it's getting late."
"I'm not tired."
"If you're not tired, why are you leaning on me?"
"Whether I'm tired or not, I want to lean on you."
Mira fell silent, as she also enjoyed this closeness.
She lifted his arm and wrapped it around her neck, then hugged his waist, intending to carry him to the Magic Statue's shoulder.
The Magic Statue, understanding her intentions, crouched down and extended its hand. Once they stepped onto its palm, it gently lifted them up.
Mira patted the Magic Statue's hard shell of a head and said, "Let's go home."
But the Magic Statue, with its bright blue eyes, waited for Rod's nod before starting to walk.

"The Insight Crown adds stats on its own, but it doesn't listen to me for other things." Mira couldn't understand the Magic Statue's thought process.
She asked, "Do you have any favorite food?"
The Magic Statue shook its head; it didn't eat.
Among Rod's many summoned beasts, only Worm enjoyed eating; the others seemed to survive on thin air, a mystery to him.
When his magic power was mostly restored, Rod switched his mount to the River Crab.
The Magic Statue was too big, and its loud rumbling might disturb the town's residents. The River Crab's back was wider, allowing Mira to lie in his embrace, and it was more convenient for him to lie on Mira's lap.
It was impossible to remain still; Rod's heart was restless, and his claws couldn't stay put.
Mira's face gradually turned red. "You're up to something again."
"No one can see us anyway, and we're engaged now." Rod's hand wandered upwards.
On their way out, he had important matters to attend to, so he didn't misbehave. But on the return trip, he couldn't contain himself.
"That's still not okay, we're still outside."
"Oh." Rod straightened his body and quietly tugged on the River Crab's antennae, directing it towards his home.
Mira knew exactly what he was up to, and her mind was in turmoil, torn between refusing and giving in.
As they reached the foot of Rod's building, she bit her lip, her face flushed, and whispered into Rod's ear, "At most... at most, like that day..."
Rod's breathing quickened. While taking it slow was an option, he thought...
"Do you know how irresistible you look right now?"
"Huh?"
Before Mira could process what was happening, Rod had already picked her up, and they were climbing the stairs.
Something wonderful happened, but not entirely (Edited, now behaving).
This time, Rod held her tightly before she could run away in embarrassment.
Mira buried her flushed face in his chest and mumbled, "I should go home."
"No."
"But you already... already..."
"It's my turn to take care of you." Rod flipped them over, pinning her down and kissing her lips, his hands finding their way to where they belonged.
"I don't need... mmph..."
