Chapter 416: Tensions Rise (Third Update)
Chapter 416: Tensions Rise (Third Update)
The scarred and battered Rakar, with its hidden black market nestled in a vast canyon.
In front of a massive structure, transformed from half of a derelict planetary-class warship, a golden and peculiar spacecraft landed steadily on a scorched patch of land, where dozens of variously colored spaceships were parked.
As the spacecraft touched down and the powerful defensive energy shield dissipated, a wooden ladder quickly extended from the deck.
Then, two men, a woman, and a raccoon descended the ladder.
It was Jerry and his companions.
Perhaps it was the unique appearance of the spacecraft, or perhaps the energy shield covering its surface made it particularly valuable, but the bounty hunters gathered outside the black market all cast greedy glances at Jerry and his group.
"The black market is lawless. Be careful!"
Gamora, walking on Jerry's left, placed her hand on her waist, ready to draw her weapon at any moment.
Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon also moved in sync, positioning themselves to Jerry's right and behind him, constantly vigilant to protect his safety.
This was a five-billion-client, and they hadn't received the payment yet. If anything happened to Jerry, they would truly regret it.
"Actually, you don't need to be so cautious. My magic is pretty strong."
Jerry explained, but seeing the skeptical expressions on their faces, he decided not to push the matter further.
He wasn't one to show off, and before they found a suitable planet, they would likely be spending a considerable amount of time together. Sooner or later, they would discover his true strength.
"Maybe we can take a look around before we leave!"
Jerry gazed at the black market ahead, a curious expression on his face.
Seeing this black market in the universe reminded him of his visits to the French Magic Alley Black Market and the Rural Magical Creatures Black Market in the Harry Potter world.
Those black market experiences had brought him significant benefits.
The expressions of the bounty hunters around them now were eerily similar to those of the witches he had encountered and eliminated in those markets.
"I think it's best if we leave as quickly as possible!"
Gamora, eyeing the bounty hunters with ill intentions, clearly disagreed with Jerry's suggestion.
Asgard, as a legendary race, rarely left the Nine Realms, so for most ordinary people in the universe, they were largely unknown.
Just as most people on Earth had heard of the Mayan civilization but knew little about its architecture, cultural landmarks, or unique characteristics—such knowledge was limited to archaeologists or those with a specific interest in the subject.
The bounty hunters and mercenaries outside the black market, living a life of high-risk and quick gains, certainly didn't belong to the more cultured or well-informed types.
So, they didn't recognize the Asgardian Ship as belonging to Asgard, nor did they feel any fear due to Asgard's reputation.
Instead, they simply saw a peculiar spacecraft that could travel through space and was equipped with a defensive energy shield, clearly indicating it belonged to someone wealthy.
"Although I'm not afraid of them, it's better to be safe. I agree with Gamora. Let's go directly to Quill's ship, find Groot and Drax, and leave this place quickly!"
As a fellow bounty hunter, Rocket Raccoon was well aware of the nature of black market bounty hunters.
The unique Asgardian ship had already drawn their attention, and if they didn't move quickly, they would likely face trouble soon.
If it was just the few of them, they wouldn't be afraid. They'd charge right in; Rocket has never known the meaning of the word "coward."
But now it wasn't just the few of them; there was also the super-rich Jerry. If Jerry were hit by a laser gun during the chaos, their five billion would be gone.
So, to be on the safe side, it was best to find Groot and Drax, and then leave the area in two ships.
"I think this is a wise decision, even though I really want to go in and have some fun right now!"
Star-Lord might be a bit unpredictable, but he wasn't stupid. He knew that the five billion was more important right now.
Thus, the three of them looked at Jerry at the same time.
They only had the right to suggest; the decision was ultimately in the hands of their big client, Jerry. If Jerry insisted on going in to play, they would have to accompany him.
"Then, let's leave early!"
Jerry shrugged his shoulders.
Actually, he wasn't that fixated on visiting the black market. It wasn't that he was worried about the bounty hunters there posing a threat to him.
It's just that he didn't need the money anymore, so there was no need to play the game of stealing from others. Besides, after they finished their main task, if he wanted to visit a black market, he could always go to the largest one in the universe, The Void.
So, since the three of them wanted to leave early, he didn't insist.
Apart from his intense focus during research and battles, Jerry usually had a pretty good temper.
Thus, the four of them made their way through the maze of ships and quickly found Star-Lord's "Milano" ship, which was parked at the very back.
Pressing a button, the "Milano" immediately lowered an entrance ramp, and the four of them quickly walked inside.
"I am Groot!"
As soon as they entered the cabin, a large tree head appeared, looking quite aggrieved. This was Groot, who had been left behind on the ship because of his obvious size.
Groot could only say one sentence, but it conveyed different meanings. Only Rocket Raccoon, who lived with him, could understand what he was saying.
"Alright, we are a bit late. Where's that idiot Drax?"
Sure enough, Rocket Raccoon immediately understood that Groot was complaining about their long absence.
Indeed, if they had stuck to the original plan and not gone with Jerry to sell the ships and warships, they would have returned earlier.
"I am Groot."
Groot pointed to a reclining chair behind him, which was partially hidden by his body. There, a bulky man with a body covered in red scars was sprawled out, fast asleep.
"Quill, I know you're in there. Come out right now!"
Just as Rocket Raccoon was about to jump on Drax and wake him up with a few slaps, an angry voice came from outside the ship.
Star-Lord's face turned pale the moment he heard the voice. He quickly ran to the front of the ship and pressed a button.
Instantly, a virtual projection appeared on the screen in front of the ship's cockpit.
The image on the screen clearly showed the scene outside the ship in mid-air. It was no longer empty; it was filled with a huge ship and over a hundred others, including several identical to the Milano.
The angry voice had come from the largest ship.
"Oh, shit, we're in big trouble now!"
Star-Lord couldn't help but curse as he looked at the scene on the screen.
