Chapter 416: Hellish Mountain Dragon
Chapter 416: Hellish Mountain Dragon
Makarov paused for a moment before responding, "A break is possible, but not right now."
"Why not?"
"The Paradise Tower incident might require your cooperation for further investigation."
"But I've already written a report and will send it out soon."
"That's not enough. Do you know what day it is today?"
"September 23rd. Although it's almost the end of the month, we could..." Rod trailed off as he remembered something important, "Oh... The Harvest Festival is approaching."
The Harvest Festival, held in early October, was Magnolia's most important festival and a significant event for the Fairy Tail Guild.
Just like the saying, 'The year begins after the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month,' preparations for the Harvest Festival were already underway.
However, over the next half-month, guild members who had been away would gradually return, bringing with them a backlog of tasks.
Rod considered recruiting some strong members within the guild to handle these tasks or finding time to tackle them himself, earning a little extra money on the side.
"That's not right. With the Council of Judges disbanded, you don't have any self-reflection reports to write. You should have more free time to help us with daily affairs."
"How can I not write it? The Council is only temporarily unable to function. Once it resumes, I'll have to submit the report. I'm quite busy."
"When have you ever been busy? You always leave it to the last minute."
"Nonsense! I'm brainstorming and drafting in my mind."
"Oh."
"I'm telling you, I'm genuinely busy!"
"Mhm."
...
At the Grimoire Heart headquarters, Hades was speaking to a crystal ball, "Have you obtained the item?"
The figure within the crystal ball was none other than the missing Ulutia, "Yes, during the chaos at the Council of Judges."
"Hehehe... An eight-year plan, executed flawlessly. As expected of you, Ulutia."
"I had a lot of fun. Gerald is so adorable. For eight years, he never suspected that the 'Guidance of Jelf's Soul' was my doing."
"It's easiest to brainwash them when they're young. By the way, I heard Gerald was arrested. This might draw attention to you, especially after the recent spotlight. We should avoid attracting too much attention for now."
"We can leave this to our 'allies.' The Six Demon Generals have been searching for 'that' all along, haven't they?" Ulutia smiled, "Perfect timing, as the Council's records contain valuable information."
"Then, I'll leave the rest to you."
"Yes, President Hades."
The communication ended, and Ulutia toyed with the crystal ball, "Brainwashing them when they're young is indeed the easiest..."
A cold smile crept onto her face, "Is that so, President Hades?"
...
That night, the sky was illuminated by a crescent moon. Rod and Mira rode on the back of a river crab, hurrying out of the city.
The Guild Master was in a bit of a mood and refused to accompany them.
Since they had already summoned one dragon, summoning another wouldn't be an issue.
"Where are we going this time?" Mira snuggled closer to Rod, finding the most comfortable position in his embrace.
Rod wrapped his arms around her waist, slipping one hand under her clothes, and began massaging around her navel.
Mira not only didn't stop him but also placed her hand over his, enjoying the warmth of his touch.
Especially when her stomach ached, she wished he would massage her all day.
"But isn't that place far away?"
"Mhm," Rod nodded, "But considering the commotion caused by the Mountain Dragon last time, we should've gone even further."
The moonlight was faint that night, and the darkness deepened as they ventured further from the town.
Fortunately, the river crab had excellent vision and ran swiftly, soon bringing them to their destination.
The ruins of the crater, which had been dismantled before the Mountain Dragon's departure, still lay there, now overgrown with weeds due to the recent rain and wind.
Even though it was just a pile of rocks, after two to three months, grass had somehow managed to grow on it.
"Here will do." Rod jumped down from the river crab.
Mira looked at him in surprise.
Noticing that she hadn't followed, Rod asked, "What's wrong... Oh, right."
Rod, with a mischievous smile, extended his hand to his delicate and frail fiancee, "Come, I'll carry you down."
"It's nothing," Mira was actually surprised that Rod, who often slipped up in the past, was being so well-behaved today.
She casually wrapped her arms around Rod's neck, not refusing to be carried down.
"Ready." Rod waited for her to steady herself, then took a few steps forward and gripped the pendant. "Summon, Azure Carved Magic Statue, Mountain Dragon!"
A magic statue several meters tall appeared, placing the Insight Crown on Rod and, seeing no combat nearby, it also added one to Mira out of habit.
This was their usual training routine; Rod never took advantage of his faster magic recovery to bully Mira.
There was no mistake in the first shot, the first hit, the first internal, the first containment, the first tolerance, the first in the 619th book, the first bar, the first look!
Following this, the massive body of the Mountain Dragon also appeared, its posture suggesting it was asleep.
Sensing the change in environment, the Mountain Dragon slightly propped up its body, shook its head, and a look of exasperation seemed to appear on its dragon face, "Why didn't you just summon it directly? Why call me?"
"Isn't this something you should ask if you've communicated well?"
"We're almost sleeping in the same nest. What do you think?" The Mountain Dragon's figure gradually became ethereal, "Hurry up. That guy has a bad temper. If he gets impatient, he might come out yelling and wanting to beat you up."
The description of 'sleeping in the same nest' wasn't entirely accurate.
Rod could 'see' that the canyon's dragon pit was divided in half. One side was earthen yellow, with yellowish rock-shaped markings on the walls, and the Mountain Dragon was lying there, continuing to nap.
The other side was fiery red, with a red flame symbol on the wall, and a huge red dragon stood on the ground.
The two sides seemed distinct and non-interfering.
This made Rod a little worried about how the other dragons would manage later. Would they crowd together like the Void Larvae and the Vanguard?
From the Mountain Dragon's tone, it seemed the next dragon might have a temper. Rod gave Mira a reassuring look, then gripped the pendant and recited the full incantation: "I am..."
"Summon, Hellfire Dragon!"
Whoosh~~
As the magic surged, it felt like a gust of wind blew by, and the air around them suddenly became scorching hot.
On the pile of rubble ahead, the weeds began to wither, then catch fire and turn to ashes.
"Roar~~"
A loud dragon's roar filled with scorching heat rang out, and in front of Rod, flames erupted, instantly burning the surrounding weeds.
But then, even the ground began to burn, and this ordinary plain wilderness seemed to transform into a fiery hell.
Rod and Mira quickly jumped onto the magic statue's shoulders, and it ran backward for several meters.
Standing at a distance, they could better observe the appearance of this enormous creature.
It had a body similar in size to the Mountain Dragon, and its appearance was somewhat alike, but the Hellfire Dragon was entirely red, emitting an astonishing amount of heat as if its body was filled with lava.
Only its neck, chin, and the bone structure of its dragon wings were black, like obsidian in the lava.
The Hellfire Dragon flapped its wings, creating waves of heat.
However, it didn't fly; instead, it looked around, finally fixing its gaze on Rod, and slowly spoke, "So you're the one called Rod?"
The Hellfire Dragon spoke in the local dialect of this world, which, if on Earth, would be akin to speaking with a strong northern accent.
"Yes, it's me," Rod replied, though it sounded like a challenge, he couldn't ignore it.
The Hellfire Dragon seemed to have grown impatient, "Why are you dawdling? I've been waiting for you for ages."
It pointed to its head and said, "Cut the chatter. Give me a punch. Come on, put some strength into it, hit me right here."
