Chapter 416: Harry: Why Would I Be Afraid of Such a Thing?
Chapter 416: Harry: Why Would I Be Afraid of Such a Thing?
Harry looked over, the bag was bulging, the ropes used to tie it were still lying on the side, and the opening was not closed, revealing the dark interior.
"You cast a spell to drive away that Dementor? How did you do it? That wasn't the power of the Patronus Charm, was it?" Harry asked curiously, recalling that the Dementor had released him and fled in panic.
He had no idea what magic Ivan had used to terrify such an evil creature.
"No, I actually did nothing. The Dementor ran away on its own after seeing me", Ivan shrugged, somewhat helplessly.
Harry was half-disbelieving. Dementors were chaotic and evil creatures, right? Could they actually feel fear and run away?
"Those Dementors are intelligent beings. They naturally feel fear when faced with a power greater than their own!" Ivan, noticing Harry's doubt, explained with a laugh.
"If you can fully master the Patronus Charm, you'll find that Dementors aren't that difficult to deal with. For example, what you did just now was quite good."
"But I almost died at the hands of the Dementor", Harry said, his face filled with shame and gloom.
"At least you didn't faint again, right? That's a significant improvement! You can't expect to learn such an advanced spell in just one or two tries, can you?" Ivan consoled him.
Thanks to Ivan's reminder, Harry noticed this improvement, and his Emotions immediately lifted.
The most painful thing for him this year was that he would always faint whenever he encountered a Dementor, causing the Gryffindor Team to lose matches, which had become a kind of phobia for him.
This time, although he hadn't defeated the Dementor, he had at least managed to hold on and not lose consciousness. That was progress.
Harry felt that if he tried a few more times, he might be able to completely overcome this monster!
With this thought, Harry regained his spirit, supporting his weakened body as he got up from the ground, ready to try again with renewed determination.
"Are you sure you don't need to rest a bit?" Ivan asked, somewhat concerned.
"No, I'm fine!" Harry shook his head, picked up his wand from the ground, and assumed a fighting stance.
Ivan raised an eyebrow but didn't insist. He raised his wand and pointed it at the opening of the bag, where wisps of white mist coalesced into a sphere and floated toward it, intending to force the Dementor hiding inside the bag to come out.
Harry's eyes were fixed on the movement of the light ball, gripping his wand tightly and ready to act at any moment.
However, the light ball flew into the opening of the bag, but the Dementor inside showed no sign of coming out. Harry turned to look at Ivan, puzzled.
Ivan was equally baffled and tried again, using the Patronus Charm to create a more powerful white mist sphere, but it still failed to force the Dementor out.
"Hmm, there might have been a mishap. Wait a moment!"
Ivan said, somewhat embarrassed, and quickly walked over to lift the bag, turning it upside down and shaking it vigorously.
Come on, come out!
Unfortunately, the Dementor seemed to be stuck inside the bag, and no matter how much Ivan shook it, it had no effect.
Harry watched the scene with a strange expression on his face. Was this really a Dementor inside the sack? Why had he been afraid of such a thing before?
On the other side, Ivan tried various methods but was stumped for a moment, unsure of what to do next.
While he could destroy the container that housed the Dementor, making it unable to hide, this thing had taken him quite a bit of time to create. If it were destroyed, there would be nothing else to contain the Dementor.
Ivan recalled that Dementors could understand Wizard speech and tentatively poked the sack with his wand, speaking aloud.
"Come out! I know you can understand me! We have no ill intentions, we just need your help. There's a young Wizard here who wants to learn the Patronus Charm, and we need your cooperation."
The Dementor hiding in the sack, of course, did not come out. It did not trust Ivan's words and would never help a Wizard learn a spell that could repel it. It wasn't stupid.
Seeing that this approach was ineffective, Ivan turned to threats, saying that if the Dementor did not agree, he would destroy it completely. If it agreed, he might consider letting it go.
Watching Ivan's various attempts to coerce the Dementor, Harry didn't know how to comment. His impression of Dementors, formed over the past few months, had been completely shattered in these few minutes.
However, Harry still doubted whether Ivan's actions would be effective. Could Dementors really communicate normally with Wizards?
Soon, Harry saw the result. Under Ivan's threats, the Dementor cautiously poked its head out of the sack, then floated out.
Its disgusting, decayed body looked much more ethereal than before, and its tattered Cloak had several large holes, which Harry thought were probably caused by the two white mist balls.
This made the Dementor look less terrifying and somewhat pitiful.
"Alright, Harry, I've reached an agreement with this Dementor. It's willing to help you!" Ivan was satisfied with the Dementor's cooperative attitude and said confidently.
Harry, however, suspected that the Dementor was not as willing as Ivan claimed.
Under Ivan's direction, they repositioned themselves. The atmosphere was completely different now. Harry held his wand and tried to maintain a serious demeanor, but seeing the Dementor being scolded by Ivan, he couldn't help but feel amused.
The Dementor, reluctantly, acted out a hunting posture under Ivan's repeated urging and floated towards Harry.
As it got closer, the scent of food made the Dementor somewhat restless. Unfortunately for it, Ivan was watching closely, and no matter how hungry it was, it dared not make any moves.
Despite the Dementor's efforts to contain its power, Harry still felt some of its influence. The ability to spread fear seemed to be an inherent trait of Dementors, impossible to turn off.
"Expecto Patronus!" Harry, fighting the painful memories that flooded his mind, gritted his teeth and cast the spell repeatedly. A dense white mist continuously spewed from the tip of his wand, pushing the approaching Dementor away.
