Chapter 416: A Glorious Moment
Chapter 416: A Glorious Moment
The incident of Snape being knocked out by a giant snowball quickly spread throughout the castle, and he found no humor in it at all. Every time Albert's name was mentioned, a threatening glint appeared in his eyes.
Snape truly wanted to make things difficult for Albert, but considering that Professor McGonagall had already deducted points from him and put him in detention, he couldn't do much else. Even if he wanted to target Albert during classes, it would be challenging. So, Snape chose to simply ignore Albert's existence, which the latter didn't mind at all.
It was undoubtedly a relief for Albert that Snape wasn't causing any trouble.
However, the detention still bothered Albert a bit, as he had only recently started exploring Human Transfiguration and was still fumbling his way through it. Writing a dissertation on this topic would be challenging.
Of course, he could copy some information about Human Transfiguration from his Transfiguration Theory skill, but without truly mastering the magic, he felt that whatever he wrote would be incomprehensible.
In the end, Albert decided to consult Professor McGonagall about Human Transfiguration, turning his detention into an opportunity for a private lesson.
When it came to Human Transfiguration, one couldn't help but mention Animagus magic, and Professor McGonagall was undoubtedly an expert and authority on the subject. This extremely advanced transfiguration magic was best taught by her, and so the detention turned into a private tutorial.
Professor McGonagall's explanation of Animagus far surpassed what she had taught at the Transfiguration Club. Albert could understand it, but the absence of Animagus on his skill panel still frustrated him. Although he had guessed from the start that learning Animagus wouldn't be easy, he still felt dejected when he failed.
Human Transfiguration and Animagus were actually different. If one had to make a comparison, Animagus was more like an advanced application of Human Transfiguration.
With Professor McGonagall's help, Albert successfully transformed himself into a black armchair, finding the method of Human Transfiguration simpler than he had anticipated.
However, it was possibly because he was currently learning the simplest form of Human Transfiguration. Transforming a human into an animal was far more complex. If Human Transfiguration wasn't performed correctly, especially when used on others, it could result in what was known as Transfiguration Torture. The best proof of this was the incident where a certain someone grew a pig's tail from their bottom. This was why one had to be extremely meticulous when using Transfiguration spells. Imagine turning into a chair and then being unable to turn your hands back, with no one to help restore your body to normal—that would be disastrous! Based on his understanding and the partial knowledge he copied from Transfiguration Theory, Albert wrote a dissertation on Human Transfiguration, which Professor McGonagall found very satisfactory.
"Alright, you may go now."
"What about the detention?" Albert asked tentatively.
"Consider it ended early." Professor McGonagall revealed a kind smile. As long as Albert could produce a dissertation that satisfied her, she wouldn't make things difficult for him.
"Then I'll be off!" Just as Albert opened the door, he suddenly heard panicked screams and raucous laughter from outside the window.
Professor McGonagall quickly walked to the window and saw Professor Quirrell knocked down by a snowball. Her smile instantly vanished.
The next moment, she hurried outside.
"What on earth are you doing?"
As Albert followed, he saw Professor McGonagall helping Professor Quirrell up, her face furious as she scolded Fred and George.
"Gryffindor will lose twenty points, and you'll both serve detention."
It didn't take long for Albert to figure out what had happened. Fred and George had enchanted several snowballs to chase after Professor Quirrell, eventually hitting him at the back of his head where his turban was wrapped.
These two were truly asking for trouble. They had just smeared Voldemort's face with snow! However, this was probably their most glorious moment, even though Fred and George were oblivious to it.
"Professor McGonagall, I think they should apologize to Professor Quirrell," Albert suggested on a whim, "and then have them polish the silverware in the Trophy Room."
The twins stared at Albert, mouths agape, wondering if he was really their friend.
"You'll help Mr. Filch polish the silverware and chamber pots in the Trophy Room," Professor McGonagall glanced at Albert, her face stern, "and you're not to use magic. Do it all by hand."
After Fred and George apologized to Professor Quirrell, Albert seized the opportunity to seek guidance from him, not giving the twins a chance to cause further trouble.
As Albert prepared to ask his third question, Professor Quirrell finally reached his limit and tried to leave, suggesting that Albert should find the answers himself.
Naturally, Albert wouldn't let Professor Quirrell off the hook that easily and successfully obtained a signed note to access the Restricted Section.
That task was almost complete.
"Damn it, Albert, why did you have to open your big mouth?" The twins glared at Albert reproachfully.
"Do you think you can get away without serving detention?" Albert retorted, poking Fred's chest.
"Fine, who's going to clean the chamber pots then?" Fred asked George, sounding defeated.
"You, of course," George replied without hesitation.
"Why me?" Fred clearly didn't want to do it either.
"Why not you? Since you came up with this idea, it should be you," George argued.
The Weasley brothers started to shift the blame onto each other, and eventually, they ended up wrestling in the snow, drawing a crowd of onlookers who cheered them on.
Albert watched this scene, bemused, and turned to Lee Jordan beside him. "What were they thinking? How could they do something like that?"
"Actually, remember when Truman enchanted that snowball last time?" Lee Jordan spoke up.
"Of course," Albert replied.
"Fred and George tried it out, and they succeeded. Later, those two wanted to test it on someone, you know..." Lee Jordan lowered his voice, "they wanted to see if Professor Quirrell was... so they enchanted a snowball to chase after him."
However, the three of them never expected that Professor Quirrell would be running around, trying to escape the snowball.
In the end, Fred, who had suggested causing trouble, was tasked with cleaning the chamber pots.
The twins blamed Albert for this additional punishment.
"Don't be stupid," Albert said impatiently, "do you think you can avoid Filch's wrath? It's better to just polish the trophies and chamber pots than let him come up with more creative punishments."
Who knew what would happen if Fred and George ended up in detention with Professor Quirrell, especially after they had just smeared Voldemort's face.
Although it made some sense, the twins continued to grumble about Albert and demanded that he hand over his homework for the past few days to help them make up for the time lost during detention.
Basically, these two scoundrels never intended to do their homework and were planning to copy... or rather, finish it all at once.
Lee Jordan shamelessly offered to supervise Fred and George to prevent them from directly plagiarizing Albert's homework.
Albert saw right through his motives but didn't bother calling him out. Let them copy if they wanted to.
