Chapter 415: The Death Star and the Black Market (Second Update)
Chapter 415: The Death Star and the Black Market (Second Update)
"If only it were that simple. This damn cash is one-time use to prevent counterfeiting. Once used, it's as good as scrap metal, and you have to exchange it for new bills!"
Rocket Raccoon pounded the table beside him, frustrated by the lack of personal accounts.
"So, can we exchange the cash at that black market?"
Jerry asked.
"No, that's just a small black market. Forty billion would be enough to buy the entire place!"
Gamora shrugged.
"You'd have to go to the Null Zone or Contraxia to find merchants who can exchange that much cash. My advice is to head to Contraxia. If the planet we're going to has issues, we can look for other information there. If it's all clear, we can exchange fifty billion and pay you directly."
There was another reason she didn't mention: her previous buyer was the Collector, the leader of the Null Zone. If they were discovered, it could be troublesome.
"Let's do it your way, then!"
Jerry had no objections. His goal was to find a suitable planet, move everyone to the ring world, and explore the universe along the way.
Whether it was the largest black market in the Null Zone or the raider hub of Contraxia, he was interested in both.
He also planned to visit the Kree Empire and the Sovereign Empire.
"Asgard, how much longer until we reach our destination?"
"Master, at our current speed, it will take about four hours!"
Asgard's voice echoed from above.
Jerry nodded.
"Rest here. There's food, drink, and entertainment. If you have any questions, just ask Asgard."
He said goodbye to Gamora and Rocket Raccoon, then headed back to his room in the villa.
With four hours to kill, he might as well study the biology of the Nova Empire. During his time on Xandar, he had used his bracelet to download all the biology-related knowledge from the Nova Empire.
While the Nova Empire's technology wasn't focused on biological research, there were still some unique insights that could be useful to him.
When it came to biological modifications, the Kree Empire was the leader. According to the information in his bracelet, the Kree Empire often used aliens from colonized planets for biological experiments, giving them advanced techniques in this field.
"Even though he's just a human, there's something mysterious about him."
After Jerry left, Rocket Raccoon muttered to himself.
Gamora fell into deep thought, feeling like she was missing something.
"Oh, what is he doing? Why do I want to stab him so badly!"
Earlier, while the three of them were discussing the plan, Star-Lord wasn't there. He was on the beach, lying in a lounge chair, listening to energetic dance music and performing his unique, somewhat bizarre dance.
As Gamora's thoughts drifted, she suddenly saw Star-Lord's dance and couldn't resist reaching for the retractable knife at her waist.
"Ha ha ha, maybe he's trying to attract a mate. I heard that many Earth animals use dance to attract partners."
Rocket Raccoon laughed, grabbing a drink from the table.
Star-Lord, caught up in his dance, activated the Thruster on his feet and glided across the sand to Gamora, giving her what he thought was a super charming wink.
Kamorra silently rose from the recliner and swiftly kicked Star-Lord in the groin, leaving behind the word "idiot" before turning and heading to the villa's living room.
"What's wrong with her?"
Star-Lord bent over, one hand clutching his injured area and the other removing his headphones, as he asked Rocket Raccoon.
Rocket Raccoon gulped down the remaining alcohol in his cup, his face expressionless as he replied, "How would I know? You should ask her!"
Four hours later, on the deck of the Asgard.
"That's Laka, a planet that was completely destroyed due to the war between the Kree Empire and the Nova Empire. It's now a small black market hub."
Kamorra pointed to a rough, pitch-black planet ahead and explained.
Black markets, which operate without legal oversight, generally don’t dare to set up shop on governed planets, as they could be shut down at any moment. They can only operate on dead planets.
"What's a dead planet?"
Jerry asked, curious. Although he had been reading a lot about various aspects of the universe recently, there were still some terms he didn't fully understand.
Before Kamorra could answer, Star-Lord stepped forward, apparently eager to show off his knowledge. He cleared his throat and began to explain:
"A dead planet is different from a planet that has never supported life. These planets once had thriving ecosystems and were suitable for life. However, they were destroyed due to various interstellar wars.
Compared to planets that have never supported life, these dead planets can still be temporarily habitable without any equipment for a short period. This is why black market hubs are often established on dead planets."
Jerry nodded in agreement.
He knew that the universe had seen countless interstellar wars between galactic empires, not just the current Kree Empire and Nova Empire. When he read about the Kree Empire, he learned that before the war with the Nova Empire, the Kree had been in conflict with the Skrull Empire for countless years.
It wasn't until twenty years ago that the Kree Empire declared the last of the Skrulls extinct.
So, there were indeed many dead planets in the universe.
The universe is cruel. Even peaceful civilizations like the Nova Empire can't afford to let their guard down, for if they encounter a ruthless empire like the Kree, they could be in serious trouble.
In fact, Jerry personally believed that if the Kree Empire hadn't been weakened by the war with the Skrulls, they wouldn't have signed a peace treaty with the Nova Empire. He also suspected that the Kree Empire was merely biding their time, and given their aggressive nature, they wouldn't remain peaceful for long.
This was one of the reasons he sold the Dark Elf warships to the Nova Empire. If the Kree Empire ever attacked the Nova Empire, the latter would be better prepared with the Dark Elf ships and could potentially reward him with some red stars.
Of course, that was uncertain, as he wasn't directly involved in the conflict. However, even if he didn't get any rewards, he still made a substantial profit, and he had no use for those ships anyway.
Following Kamorra's guidance, the Asgard entered the dead planet's atmosphere and landed in a barren canyon, where they found the brightly lit black market hub.
