Chapter 415: Gerald's Whereabouts, News from the Council
Chapter 415: Gerald's Whereabouts, News from the Council
Lucy patted her cheeks to rouse herself, "Let's go discuss taking on a mission with Elusa right now!"
Lucy had no intention of sacrificing herself for that man's business plan. For her, it didn't matter if the Heartfilia family was poor or wealthy.
The only thing in that family worth her concern was her mother's grave.
In the end, the three of them chose a mission to raid a dark guild.
Yes, the three of them.
Natsu had wanted to continue his training, but since he hadn't gotten enough of his fight with Rod, he decided to go outside and continue the battle.
Happy couldn't participate in the decision-making because he was busy scrounging for food and drink with Worm in the kitchen.
Visually, Worm had gotten so fat that he could barely fit through the kitchen door, but fortunately, his fur was fluffy and his body was soft and squishy.
Mr. Cook, who had witnessed Worm's daily weight gain, seemed satisfied, feeling a sense of relief as if the pig he had raised was about to be sold.
And so, the feeding continued with even greater enthusiasm.
If not for the diligent feeding by him and the others in the guild, Rod wouldn't know how much his wallet would be challenged.
Raising a pig wasn't easy, and Worm could eat more than a pig.
Rod quickly organized the mission requests he had received that day, posting them on the bulletin board one by one, and then quietly sat aside, watching Mira calculate the previous day's accounts.
Mira glanced at him but said nothing, continuing her work. Only after finishing the calculations did she stretch lazily.
Rod watched from the side, and it was quite a sight.
"Why aren't you reading?" Mira felt he must have something on his mind.
"You're more interesting than any book."
"Stop talking nonsense. I'm leaving now. Mr. Cook asked me to buy some things."
"Tell me." Rod grabbed her hand and squeezed the finger with the ring, "About the wedding."
Mira's face turned slightly red again, "Wed... what wedding?"
"The date, of course. The Guild Master asked us about it yesterday. We didn't have time then, but now that we're free, we should discuss it."
Mira pouted, "Hmph, you didn't show any reaction before the proposal, why are you in such a hurry now?"
Rod shifted his stool, his body leaning against hers, "Times change, and with such a beautiful wife, who wouldn't want to bring her home sooner?"
"You're the only one who can say that." Mira leaned her head on his shoulder, but then thought better of it and stood up again.
"Let's discuss it later, and I'll give you plenty of time to prepare." Mira glanced around to ensure no one was paying attention, then kissed him on the cheek and picked up her bag, her face beaming, "I'm off to shop."
"Take our luxury car." Rod waved his hand and summoned a river crab, exuding an aura as if he had just sent his wife off to the market in a Ferrari.
He couldn't accompany her, as the Guild Master had left early in the morning to gather information, and someone needed to stay behind at the guild.
By the afternoon, close to dinnertime, Makarov returned to the guild with two pieces of news, one that could be considered either good or bad.
The first piece of news was that Gerald had been captured.
Just yesterday, fishermen from the Car Elrum Kingdom had unexpectedly found Gerald floating on the sea's surface.
They pulled him onto their boat, confirmed he still had a faint breath, and immediately took him to a nearby clinic on the coast.
He was recognized as a dangerous criminal who had once impersonated an Elder Member, so they immediately reported it and performed basic first aid.
Normally, he should have been handed over to the Council of Judges, but as they hadn't resumed normal operations, the Royal Guard took him into custody and imprisoned him in the nation's most secure prison.
The details of his injuries are unclear, and he might still be in critical condition.
The second piece of news is related to the Council of Judges.
The perpetrator who directly destroyed the Council Core is named Ulutia, a former Elder Member and a follower of Gerald. Her whereabouts are currently unknown.
Due to her association with Gerald, Ulutia's position as an Elder Member was naturally revoked.
After an investigation, Crawford Shim, the former Council Chairman, was held accountable for negligence. He allowed Gerald and Ulutia to infiltrate the Council, and his failure to attend the emergency meeting and stop the launch of Archmage Spirit Energy almost allowed Gerald's plan to succeed.
Crawford was stripped of his chairmanship due to these two charges. However, considering his years of contributions to the magical world, he was only removed from his position without any additional punishment, allowing him to enjoy his retirement.
Among the remaining seven Elder Members, six of them hastily voted in favor of launching the Archmage Spirit Energy upon hearing Jelf's name. It is still uncertain whether they are accomplices.
They will undergo further scrutiny, and half of them have already resigned due to guilt. Nevertheless, the necessary investigations will continue.
The only one who consistently opposed the launch of Archmage Spirit Energy was Agima. Therefore, he was the first to be cleared of suspicion.
Some suggested that he stay and participate in the reorganization of the new Council.
However, Agima declined, stating that he had reached retirement age and wished to resign.
Before leaving, Agima proposed that they consider Ogre.
Although Ogre often wanted to punish Fairy Tail for causing trouble, which differed from Agima's stance, Agima admired Ogre's dedication to his work and his upright character. He could sense Ogre's integrity and his consideration for the common people.
Agima could no longer concern himself with these matters; he just wanted to find a good place, use his savings, and open a restaurant to do what he loved.
"All of this information was passed on to me by Little Asia," Makarov said, feeling a bit envious of Agima.
His friend of the same age had retired, while he didn't know when he could stop worrying.
"In any case, it's uncertain when the Council will resume normal operations. We still need to work on maintaining regional order. So, for the next regular meeting... Don't make that face; this is an important matter."
"I understand, I'll accompany you," Rod said, "But before or after that, please give us a few days off."
"Why are you always thinking about vacations?"
"To earn money for our wedding, of course. You don't want me and Mira to embezzle guild funds, do you?"
"..." Makarov fell silent. It wasn't impossible.
After all, the guild's funds were often used to temporarily cover compensation for certain individuals, and they would slowly repay it.
If Rod and Mira needed money urgently, letting them use some funds temporarily was not an issue. They wouldn't default on their debts.
—Anyway, most of the power had already been handed over to the young couple. If they had such intentions, they could empty the guild's treasury without anyone knowing.
"It's not that... Guild Master... What does that look in your eyes mean? It's creepy." Rod felt uncomfortable. Why would the Guild Master look relieved upon hearing that a guild member wanted to embezzle guild funds?
Rod wondered if he had misinterpreted the look.
