Chapter 414: The End of the Night
Chapter 414: The End of the Night
"Okay."
Upon hearing the Red-Haired Commissioner's words, Lyon nodded and directly took off the Desire Dream Invader and handed it over.
Although his boss was a drunkard, and his mind wasn't as sharp as a monkey's when he was drunk, he was still quite reliable when it came to matters unrelated to alcohol, and could be trusted to some extent.
"Lyon, there's something I need to tell you first."
Without immediately taking the Desire Dream Invader, the Red-Haired Commissioner spoke seriously, "This might be a one-way loan, and if you really don't want to lend it, you don't have to. I can still..."
"No need, you can have it."
Before the Red-Haired Commissioner could finish, Lyon shook his head, "Boss, if you're asking for something, it must be important business. There's no need for explanations, and it's fine if it doesn't come back."
"Okay..."
Seeing that Lyon didn't even ask about its purpose, the Red-Haired Commissioner took the extremely precious Anomaly from him and tied it around the Snow Maiden's neck, replacing the lanyard with a strand of her own hair.
"This item is crafted from the weapon of the Desire Dream Lord. Even though you've lost your Nightmare Core, it's enough to ensure your safety in the Dream Realm."
The Red-Haired Commissioner narrowed her fox-like eyes, her expression turning solemn as she instructed, "Remember, after those Dream Devouring Scarabs die naturally, you must immediately start searching for what I asked you to find. But you must not act on your own; you have to return to me right away. If you can't find me, come and find Lyon, understand?"
"Understood..."
Feeling the warmth of the red pendant on her chest, the Snow Maiden relaxed and nodded slightly. She then reached out and drew the Desire Dream Invader through the air.
"Crack!"
A sound like shattering glass echoed as the air split where the red fork passed, revealing a small, clear and visible crack, yet it seemed to not exist at all.
...
Finally, she could go home...
After sensing the familiar aura of the Dream Realm through the tiny crack, the Snow Maiden almost shed tears.
Her night had been truly miserable!
First, she was forcibly pulled out of her Companion Dream, then her Nightmare Core was crushed and her Nightmare Citizenship was revoked. After that, she was bought by someone using a strange contract and was ridden like a mount, carrying the person around in the Nightmare Realm.
But the most outrageous part was yet to come. She thought that was the limit of her bad luck, but there was even more to it!
After waking up from being knocked out by the Nightmare King, the Nightmare King and most of the Nightmare Realm had disappeared! She was then forced by a smirking, evil woman to sign a pile of messy and chaotic treaties and take on a dangerous mission.
Waaah... She would never return to this broken place!!!
Impatient to leave, the Snow Maiden rushed through the rift between the Dream Realm and the real world, returning to the comforting familiarity of her old home. She couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief after her streak of bad luck.
Indeed, the Dream Realm was better... Although it was currently infested with bugs, at least she wouldn't be... Hmm?
In the empty Nightmare River, the Snow Maiden spotted some familiar figures and paused, a hint of joy flashing across her eyes.
The Greenwave Sea Monster, Plague Maiden, Swamp King Snake, and even the Sand Dune Colossus! Not one was missing!
"Great! You're all still here!"
Overjoyed to find her long-time colleagues alive, the Snow Maiden hurried towards them.
Among the seven elite Nightmares serving under the Nightmare King, there was a sense of camaraderie, as the best way to bond was to have a common enemy.
All seven Nightmares had been captured by the Nightmare King and had their Nightmare Cores taken away, forcing them to become Nightmare Messengers. They despised the Nightmare King to the core, and with such a heartless boss, it was natural for their relationships to be amicable.
"You're still alive!"
Upon seeing the figure of the Snow Maiden, the other six Nightmare Messengers, all battered and bruised, excitedly gathered around.
After a brief exchange of greetings, due to the rapid proliferation of the Black Gold Beetle, the seven survivors dared not venture too deep into the Dream Realm. Instead, they sat together in the gap between the Dream Realm and reality, their faces filled with lingering fear as they chatted:
"The Cleaners are truly terrifying!"
"Yes! Especially the Bloodhair Princess, the number of Nightmares she killed today is more than I've seen in my entire life! The Nightmare River is stained red!"
"No, no, no. She's scary, but the one throwing bugs is even more frightening!"
"I agree. The one throwing bugs is scarier. Seeing this situation, half of the Dream Realm might be devoured!"
"Yes, he doesn't care about anything. He's determined to kill us all! I wonder what the Nightmare King did to anger him so."
After a lively discussion, the Swamp King Snake spat out a black letter. With a relaxed expression on its snake face, it said:
"Luckily, the Nightmare King was also killed. This time, we should have a few decades of peace."
"Yes, yes."
"Hiss... Speaking of the Nightmare King... I feel a bit scared."
"What are you afraid of? It'll take decades... Hiss... Why am I shivering now?"
"I... I... I'm... a bit... a bit trembling..."
As if it were contagious, all six Nightmare Messengers, except for the Snow Maiden, began to shiver one after another. The closer they were to her, the more intensely they trembled. The Plague Maiden, sitting next to her, found her teeth chattering uncontrollably.
"What's wrong with you all? Why are you shivering?"
No, no, no. It's not about us; it's about you!
After crawling away from the Snow Maiden, the Plague Maiden, feeling slightly better, spoke with a hint of fear in her eyes:
"You... Your body... has a... very frightening... scent!"
A very frightening scent?
The Snow Maiden paused, slightly confused, and quickly checked herself.
"I don't feel any frightening scent."
"There is... there is..."
Moving further away, sensing the dangerous aura that made her tremble involuntarily, the Plague Maiden's teeth chattered as she spoke:
"The scent on your pendant... it's more frightening than... than the Nightmare King!"
...
"Just as I thought."
Feeling the mark of the Nightmare King rapidly dissipating from the depths of his soul, the young man in the water blue robe smiled. His soul, once bound, was now free. He raised the glass lantern in his hand and blew out the light inside.
"Nicole, take the Dream Navigation Lantern and go to the Dream Realm."
Handing the lantern to the female journalist behind him, the Aquarius Director stood atop the clock tower, squinting at the sun rising above the horizon. With a calm expression, he instructed:
"Be quick. If I'm not mistaken, Olivia is already looking for the me that's sleeping in the Dream Realm.
If the me sleeping in the Nightmare River is found by her first, then this trip will be for nothing!"
