Chapter 414: A Major Accomplishment
Chapter 414: A Major Accomplishment
December 11th, 2024
Despite the attack on Gu Changlin causing a huge commotion, the news quickly spread to numerous families within a short time.
However, information circulates fastest among peers, and if it's not within the same social circle, it could take much longer to reach others.
Gu Changkong rushed to Gu Tianyuan's residence, where someone was already waiting to escort him to the inner conference room.
As Gu Changkong walked, his heart was filled with unease.
He had visited this place many times when he was younger, but as he grew up, he rarely came, not because he was forbidden but because there was no point.
It was like the family meetings; would they agree to grant him any benefits?
"Young Master Changkong, the room ahead is where the family head resides. I won't bother you further," the man said, lowering his head.
"Thank you," Gu Changkong called out in gratitude as he hurried to the room and knocked on the door.
"Come in, the door's unlocked," a voice called from within.
As Gu Changkong pushed the door open, he felt several gazes fall upon him, creating a solemn atmosphere.
Gu Changlin was even more distressed, kneeling on the ground.
Gu Changkong was shocked and pale with fear.
"Changkong!"
Gu Changlin turned his head and shouted, like a drowning man grasping a straw of hope, urging, "Come in quickly and tell Father about Jiang Cheng's background!"
"Jiang Cheng?"
Gu Changkong looked at Gu Changlin, then at his father and several elders of the clan, utterly bewildered.
Jiang Cheng's background?
Hadn't Gu Changlin already thoroughly investigated it? In fact, his research was even more detailed than Gu Changkong's.
Why was he now asking him about it? Could this situation be related to Jiang Cheng?
"Why are you still standing there in a daze? Speak up quickly! Isn't he the person you brought here?" Gu Changlin urged.
Gu Changlin had called Gu Changkong here for two reasons. Firstly, he wanted to see if there was any chance for a turnaround. If they could find out where Jiang Cheng went after leaving here, that would be ideal. But if they didn't know, Gu Changlin could shift the blame onto Gu Changkong, although the others weren't fools and would only believe what they could.
"Okay," Gu Changkong agreed without much thought and recounted his encounter with Jiang Cheng in detail.
Unfortunately, what he said wasn't much different from what Gu Changlin had already shared, except for a few additional details.
Gu Tianyuan and the others naturally listened with furrowed brows.
This information wasn't very useful. It was impossible to say that the boy had returned to the Dawn Society after leaving the inner city, right?
The Dawn Society members would rather see them all dead.
"It's not about that," Gu Changlin quickly added, "but about other information beyond that."
"Other information?" Gu Changkong asked, perplexed.
"Yes, for example, whether he knows people from other forces, people with strong abilities, including several Grandmasters."
"What?" Gu Changkong's mouth hung open.
There were indeed several families within the inner city with such capabilities, and some even had Supreme-level experts.
However, Gu Changkong had no idea which of them had a connection with Jiang Cheng.
"Big Brother, I think Jiang Cheng probably doesn't know such people. When he was an assassin in the Dawn Society, he made an enemy of the leader of the Mad Wind Martial Arts Hall. In the end, he took the initiative to kill the other party himself.
If he knew several Grandmasters, why wouldn't he ask them for help and instead take the risk of acting alone?
Gu Changkong thought for a moment before speaking.
"Nonsense, if he doesn't know, this time..." Gu Changlin's face turned red, and he couldn't bring himself to continue.
Gu Tianyuan and the others also remained silent.
Clearly, it was impossible to get any useful information from Gu Changkong.
"What exactly happened?" Gu Changkong couldn't help but ask.
"Hmph," an elderly man coldly snorted and glanced at Gu Changlin, who was kneeling on the ground. "He took that kid from Jiang Cheng out, but the person ran away, and his own belongings were also stolen by them. Even worse, he was carrying a Seventh Rank Treasure on his body!"
"What! A Seventh Rank Treasure!" Gu Changkong's mouth dropped open in shock.
"The Tranquilizing Orb, that's something my Ancient Family worked so hard to obtain, and now, he's lost it in such a muddled way. He really deserves to die!"
"The Tranquilizing..."
Gu Changkong stood there as if frozen, his eyes wide and his mouth agape.
He had also heard about this treasure within the family, and it could greatly reduce the risk of accidents during an Acupoint Breakthrough. Not only could Primordial Energy Warriors use it, but even Primordial Force Supremes could benefit from it, and it was most effective.
Unfortunately, his status wasn't high enough, and he didn't have the qualifications to borrow it. He couldn't even see it, no matter what.
But now, it had been lost by Gu Changlin?
And from the earlier conversation, it seemed that Jiang Cheng had stolen it?
"Changkong, think it over carefully," Gu Tianyuan looked at Gu Changkong, his tone gentle. "Is there any detail that you might have overlooked? If the Tranquilizing Orb is found, I'll give you a major merit. You can make any request, and I'll do my best to fulfill it."
"Yes, yes, Changkong, think it over carefully."
"That's the Tranquilizing Orb! A treasure worth billions, and there are only a few on the entire planet."
"That's right! What an unfilial descendant!" An elderly man glared at Gu Changlin, his heart filled with anger.
Gu Changkong tried his best to recall, but he still shook his head, "Father, for now, I really don't have any leads. I'll go back and think carefully. If there's any clue, I'll inform you right away."
"Alright."
Gu Tianyuan had no choice but to accept this, and he patted his shoulder, "Then you go back first, and remember to think carefully."
"I understand, please don't worry, Father. After I return, I'll also ask the others in the Outer District Black Market. Perhaps they have some information."
"Oh? Is there such a thing?"
"Yes, when Jiang Cheng was still in the Outer District, he had dealings with many of my alchemists. Additionally, some of the alchemists' families had contact with his family. Perhaps they might know something."
Gu Changkong hurriedly replied, and his heart stirred with excitement.
If there really was any important information, he definitely wouldn't hide it.
Undeniably, he had a good relationship with Jiang Cheng, but that was in the past. He didn't owe Jiang Cheng anything, and now, he prioritized the family above all else. Moreover, Jiang Cheng had stolen the most important Tranquilizing Orb from the family, something that no member of the Ancient Family could tolerate.
If he could seize this opportunity, his status within the family would definitely improve significantly, and there might even be a chance to compete for the position of family head!
"Good, good, go quickly."
Gu Tianyuan's eyes lit up as he watched Gu Changkong leave in quick steps. Suddenly, this son seemed more agreeable to him.
