Chapter 413: Brother-in-Law
Chapter 413: Brother-in-Law
Rod spoke the truth; this time, he wasn't prepared at all, and he hadn't even bought the most important ring.
He held a wooden ring, feeling slightly embarrassed, unsure if he should take it out. It was a makeshift ring crafted from the magic of the Treant.
Although he had tried to create intricate and delicate patterns, it was still just wood.
Mira now saw Rod as a block of wood.
She had begged, he had agreed, they had hugged, and they had kissed. At a moment like this, what did it matter what he gave her?
Didn't she know he was short on money lately?
Mira boldly extended her left hand in front of Rod, her eyes filled with encouraging laughter.
Reluctantly, Rod placed the ring on her middle finger and apologized, "Use this for now, and I'll replace it with a better one later."
Mira retracted her hand, examining it closely before gently caressing the fine pattern on it.
She held her hand to her chest as if she had received a treasure, shaking her head lightly, "No need to replace it. It's mine now, and I don't want to change it."
Who could say which was more precious, something bought or something handmade?
Mira tiptoed and kissed his cheek again, right in front of everyone.
Rod felt that in his previous life, he must have saved the world, for he couldn't fathom how he had the fortune to meet such a wonderful girl.
There was another round of cheering from the audience, and some shy girls covered their eyes like before, though their fingers were slightly parted.
Mira leaned on Rod's shoulder, and they waved to everyone below the stage, "Thank you all for witnessing and blessing us!"
Makarov smiled warmly and joyfully, "Let's celebrate Rod's successful proposal, and also celebrate Mira accepting it. Let's have a banquet!"
"Ohhhh!!!"
The guild immediately erupted in commotion, and despite their usual sarcasm, everyone was filled with blessings at this moment.
The female servers, led by Rachel, suddenly felt like their favorite couple had finally gotten together.
There were also the mature ones, like Macao, who muttered, "How did they get to the proposal stage? I thought they were already an old married couple."
Gray seemed to have just understood the situation, "So, Rod really proposed to Mira?"
Was proposing to the demon Mira a result of fear or fearlessness?
Juvia's face turned red, "It...it's a proposal, and he did it in front of everyone. How bold."
She glanced at Gray, "Gray, Juvia also wants...also..."
Her voice grew softer, and Gray didn't catch what she said, "Huh? What did you say?"
Juvia blushed, imagining a scene, and became so embarrassed that she rolled on the ground, covering her face, "Juvia~~~~"
What a troublesome woman, why did the Guild Master assign Gray to take care of her? Gray moved away from her and enthusiastically joined the banquet.
...
Indeed, Fairy Tail lived up to its name, as once the banquet started, everything else was forgotten.
The journalists and interviews seemed unimportant, and by the time Rod and Mira descended from the small stage, more than half of the people had forgotten the reason for the banquet.
Even the 'main characters' were left forgotten.
Rod strongly suspected that if they held the wedding banquet at home, these people would forget the purpose of the event and might even tear down the house.
Indeed, it was better to hold the wedding banquet at the guild; the new guild building was sturdy and durable.
As soon as Rod came down, he apologized to Makarov, "I'm sorry, Guild Master. I messed up the plan to have Mira perform and support the interview."
"What's the problem? Isn't this great?" Makarov smiled at them, "So, have you set a wedding date?"
The two looked at each other, and Mira, feeling a little shy, touched her face, "We haven't had time to discuss that yet."
"Is that so?" Makarov took a small sip of wine, "Good luck~"
He was particularly happy, mainly because he saw the children striving for their happiness.
The secondary reason was that Mira was happy today and didn't bother him about his drinking.
Mira was indeed very happy.
She thought Rod would wait until he had saved enough money, bought a house, and secretly prepared a ring before proposing and getting married in one go.
Such a stubborn guy, what's wrong with getting engaged first?
She never expected that the Guild Master would ask her to perform, leading to this pleasant surprise. If she had known, she would have been singing outside his house long ago.
Mira's heart was filled with happiness, and she didn't know what to do.
With a smile on her face, she walked around the tavern with Rod, her newly engaged boyfriend, giving off a familiar vibe of a bride and groom offering toasts.
"Congratulations, sister!" Elfman cried like a child.
"Why are you crying like this when I'm the one being proposed to? Your sleeves are soaked." Mira gently tugged at Elfman's sleeve, chiding him.
"I'm just so happy for my sister, sniff... Man up!" With one sleeve tugged, Elfman wiped his tears with the other.
In truth, both he and Lisanna had worried about their sister's marriage prospects, though neither dared voice these concerns, fearing a beating.
Sometimes, they thought it wouldn't matter if their sister never married, as long as the three of them stayed together. They could take care of her.
But Lisanna was gone, and Elfman often worried he couldn't care for his sister well enough.
Now that his sister had found a suitable partner, he was truly relieved.
"Sniff... Rod, I'm entrusting my sister to you. This is a man's request!"
"I will do my best to love and cherish her, and make her happy with all my strength."
Rod embraced Mira and tried to include Elfman in the hug, but it was a smoother task with Mira, who easily nestled into his arms. Elfman, on the other hand...
His brother-in-law's bulky frame and lack of cooperation made it challenging.
