Chapter 413: A Heartwarming Reunion
Chapter 413: A Heartwarming Reunion
This Proud Crow Pokemon was quite the braggart, Naoki thought to himself.
But there were more pressing matters at hand, so he continued, "Can you take us there?"
The Proud Crow Pokemon had drunk a little too much fruit wine and was now feeling a pleasant buzz.
Seeing that the human and the Burmy needed its help, it puffed out its chest and assured them, "Caw-caw, caw-chirp!" (Let's go! I'll take you there right now!)
After all, it had been freeloading off them every day, and it felt it was about time to return the favor.
Naoki: "..."
He had wanted to say that it was already late, but seeing the expression on Burmy's face, he swallowed his words and prepared to accompany them on their journey through the night.
If all went well, they would be back before dawn.
The Pokemon on the ranch were all asleep, and Naoki didn't want to disturb them. Under the cover of darkness, he mounted his Gorebyss and set off with Burmy, following the Proud Crow Pokemon southward.
The Proud Crow Pokemon was quite the chatterbox, talking nonstop as it led the way.
"Caw-caw, caw-caw!" (Let me tell you, I've been to many places. Forget about forests; I've even conquered the vast ocean!)
"Caw-chirp, caw-caw!" (The ocean, you know, it's huge! Most Pokemon can't fly across it, but I, the world's greatest Proud Crow Pokemon, can!)
Naoki: "..."
Gorebyss: "..."
Burmy, on the other hand, listened intently to the Proud Crow Pokemon's boasting.
Perhaps it was the prospect of seeing its parents again, but Burmy's childlike excitement was palpable.
Naoki smiled as he watched Burmy flying ahead of them.
If possible, he planned to bring Burmy's parents back to the ranch so they could be reunited as a family.
Once the World Tree grew and the Adventure Guild was established, they could even work in the item shop, selling berries, milk, and other items to fellow Pokemon.
However, Naoki wasn't entirely sure they would find Burmy's parents this time.
From what the Proud Crow Pokemon had said earlier, it encountered Burmy's parents about a year ago.
That would have been around the time Burmy was taken away from the ranch by the Stone Bird Pokemon.
More than a year had passed since then, and there was no guarantee that the two Burmy were still in that forest, as they might have migrated elsewhere.
Nevertheless, Naoki remained optimistic. At least they now had a lead on Burmy's parents, and where there was a will, there was a way.
As long as the two Burmy hadn't been caught by a Trainer, they would find them!
The night cast its dark veil over the wildlands of the Patia region.
The Pokemon world's population wasn't as dense as Naoki remembered from his previous life, leaving many areas untouched and unexplored.
These places boasted well-preserved ecosystems, teeming with Pokemon.
The Proud Crow Pokemon's flying speed couldn't match that of a Dragonite, but it was still much faster than Noctowl and similar Pokemon.
Naoki glanced at the time on his Rotom Phone. About an hour and a half into their flight, a vast natural forest loomed ahead.
The forest was shrouded in darkness, but in the soft moonlight, Naoki could make out a towering tree that stood taller than the rest, right at the heart of the forest.
At that moment, Burmy also spotted the tree.
"Bur, bur!"
It turned back to Naoki, chirped excitedly twice, and then flew eagerly toward the giant tree.
The Proud Crow Pokemon was a bit perplexed. "Caw?" (Why is it so suddenly excited?)
Naoki smiled and explained, "It's probably because it's been a long time since it was last home."
With that, he and Gorebyss hurried to catch up.
The Proud Crow Pokemon followed close behind.
When they reached the giant tree, Burmy had already landed on the grass below, looking left and right as if trying to get its bearings and find its way home.
It turned back to Naoki, chirped once, and then started running in a particular direction.
Along the way, Burmy came across a clearing.
It pointed to the clearing and said to Naoki, "Bur, bur!" as it reminisced about its childhood.
That was where it had been sleeping on a rock when the Stone Bird Pokemon had snatched it away!
Naoki smiled gently and shared in the memory. "I remember the first time I saw you. You were stealing chicken feed from the chicken coop, and you were so tiny back then."
"Bur~" Burmy felt a little embarrassed.
It had been so hungry then, and the grain-based chicken feed had tasted delicious!
Burmy continued past the clearing.
As it took in the familiar surroundings, the fuzzy memories in its head began to clear.
Naoki looked up and noticed that Babble Burmy seemed rather emotional at that moment.
Following its gaze, he spotted a pitch-black hole at the base of the tree, which he realized must be Babble Burmy's nest.
"Go on," Naoki gently encouraged from behind. "Your mom and dad are surely waiting for you to come home."
"Bab!" Babble Burmy nodded vigorously, wiping its damp eyes before scurrying into the tree hole.
Naoki observed the surroundings outside the tree hole. It wasn't in a dilapidated state, and there were several small footprints in the snow, which seemed to belong to Babble Burmy.
This indicated that the two Babble Burmies still lived there.
Naoki breathed a sigh of relief, genuinely happy for Babble Burmy.
Next would likely be a heartwarming scene of a long-separated family reunion.
After a long absence, the parents and child would embrace each other, weeping tears of joy.
What a touching moment it would be!
However, the next second, Naoki saw a flash of lightning within the cave.
Amidst a slightly panicked "Bab!" cry, Babble Burmy scurried out in a fluster.
Naoki: "???"
Immediately after, two vigilant and larger Babble Burmies emerged from the tree hole, glaring angrily at the unfamiliar Babble Burmy.
Babble Burmy hurriedly explained, "Babble, babble!" (Dad, Mom, I'm your child!)
However, upon hearing this, the two larger Babble Burmies became even angrier.
One of them growled threateningly, "Bab!" (Impostor, our child doesn't look like you. Go away! Don't pretend to be my child!)
Hearing this, Naoki and Babble Burmy realized something at the same time.
Babble Burmy looked down at its fur and finally understood why its parents had reacted aggressively upon seeing it.
It quickly shook its head and tried another approach to prove its identity.
"Babble, babble!" (Dad, Mom, do you remember when I was little and you took me into the forest to look for berries? I accidentally fell into the river and almost got washed away, but a Lotad saved me! You gave Lotad so many berries!)
The two larger Babble Burmies paused, their faces filling with disbelief.
Babble Burmy quickly added, "Babble, babble!" (Last year, when you were digging a hole at home, I ran out and fell asleep on a rock. A bird Pokemon snatched me away and took me to a far-off place!)
Hearing this, the hostility faded from the two larger Babble Burmies' faces, replaced by disbelief. They asked shakily, "Bab?"
Babble Burmy nodded vigorously, "Bab!"
Then, Naoki witnessed the three Babble Burmies hugging each other and sobbing loudly.
"Phew..." Naoki breathed a sigh of relief, glad that the situation had been resolved without incident.
Gorebyss also looked on happily, "Agassi~" It, too, was pleased for Babble Burmy.
Meanwhile, the Angry Pidgey proudly shouted, "Keke-pyuu!" (Angry Pidgey is the most kind-hearted Pokemon in the world, see? I successfully reunited Babble Burmy's family!)
This would be a colorful episode in its Pokemon life. Once it returned to the ranch, it would proudly recount this tale to the Pokemon in the tavern!
After the tears, Babble Burmy recounted in detail to its parents the events that had transpired since it was taken away.
How it had fallen into a human ranch, been taken in by the owner, evolved into a Babble Burmy, and become a formidable Pokemon.
Moreover, it had made many companions along the way.
The adult Babble Burmies, who had stayed in the forest waiting for their child to return, expressed their gratitude to Naoki.
They thanked him and Gorebyss, who stood by, for their help.
Naoki smiled gently, "You're welcome. Your child is extraordinary."
The two adult Babble Burmies scurried back into the tree hole and brought out a lot of berries for Naoki.
It was their way of expressing their sincere and simple emotions.
Naoki smiled at Babble Burmy.
Babble Burmy beamed at its parents and extended an invitation, "Babble, babble?" (Dad, Mom, would you like to come and live with us at the ranch?)
Hearing this, the two adult Babble Burmies froze, their faces filled with bewilderment as they looked at their child.
Naoki clarified, "Babble Burmy is inviting you to live with it at the ranch."
Babble Burmy nodded eagerly, "Bab!" Yes!
The two adult Babble Burmies turned to Naoki.
After all, in normal circumstances, wild Pokemon would never easily migrate unless there was a natural disaster like a drought or famine affecting their nearby habitat.
Sensing its parents' hesitation, Babble Burmy assured them, patting its chest, "Babmo babmo!" (I'll protect you!)
After being separated from their child for so long, the two adult Babble Burmies didn't want to part with their offspring again.
They exchanged glances and, after much deliberation, finally made a decision.
This time, they would stay with their child and protect it, never letting it out of their sight again!
The two Pokemon turned and scurried back into the tree hole. Soon, they dragged out a large pile of tree fruit, chestnuts, and pine cones.
These were their winter food reserves, but now that they were leaving, they wanted to take these provisions to their new home.
Naoki didn't mind; fortunately, he had brought a package with him, which was now useful for carrying these items.
Once everything was packed, Naoki asked the two Babble Burmies to ride on Gorebyss, and they set off back to the ranch with Angry Pidgey in tow.
By the time they arrived, it was already 3 a.m.
It was late, so Naoki suggested that Babble Burmy and its parents get some rest. He told them he would introduce them to the ranch properly when they woke up the next day.
"Babmo!"
Babble Burmy happily acknowledged, no longer the weak and tiny Burmy it used to be.
Now, it was capable of taking care of its parents.
Babble Burmy led its parents away.
Naoki, meanwhile, gave Angry Pidgey a generous reward of tree fruit and drinks to express his gratitude.
Excited, Angry Pidgey grabbed the bag of treats with its claws and flew off.
Naoki then returned to his room with Gorebyss.
Exhausted from the sleepless night, he fell into a deep slumber.
When he woke up the next day, it was already 11 a.m.
It was the last day of the year 199 in the Pokemon world, and it was also New Year's Eve.
After a simple lunch, Naoki began preparing a feast for the Pokemon on the ranch to celebrate the occasion.
This year's celebration wasn't much different from the previous one, except that the ranch had welcomed even more Pokemon companions.
As Naoki was busy preparing the food, the Pokemon in the living room were running around and playing with each other.
Occasionally, a few Pokemon would come over to his side and cause mischief, almost knocking over the bowls of ingredients he was using.
Naoki had to shoo them away, sending them back to the living room or suggesting they go sunbathe near the World Tree.
A large group of Pokemon cheered and ran off.
They made their way to the Reverse World, where they gathered under the lush World Tree.
The World Tree emitted a soft green glow, and the Pokemon stood beneath it, gazing up at the extraordinary tree as specks of starlight drifted down from its branches onto their bodies.
On Flower Continent Island, Giratina was instructing Rotom on how to surf the web using voice commands.
After a few days, it had mastered the art of navigating the Rotom Phone through speech.
Giratina preferred surfing the PokeForum to learn about unfamiliar things rather than watching TV on Pichu TV.
Back at the ranch, Babble Burmy was proudly showing its parents around its workplace, happily introducing them to its chicken friends.
That evening, Naoki prepared a sumptuous feast for the Pokemon, filling the table with delicious dishes.
The Pokemon ate happily, and once they were full, they lay down on the carpeted floor in twos and threes, dozing off contentedly in the warm atmosphere.
Seeing this heartwarming scene, Naoki smiled and shared a glance with his sister, Ai Kuan Shi, before they began tidying up the messy table together.
At some point, snowflakes started drifting past the window again.
On this cold winter night, the faint sound of crackling fireworks could be heard as the people of Pastoria City celebrated the New Year.
Time passed, and the fireworks gradually died down until silence enveloped the night. Just as Naoki thought the festivities had ended, a distant bell tolled from the direction of Pastoria City.
The ethereal chimes of the New Year's bell rang out from the town.
And so, the year 199 in the Pokemon League calendar drew to a close.
