Chapter 412: The Emergence of Ancient Powers
Chapter 412: The Emergence of Ancient Powers
"What about the second thing?" Su Yu looked at the photos of fierce, monstrous creatures in the folder, feeling an overwhelming sense of pressure.
As a child, he often watched various Ultraman monster-fighting shows online. He never imagined that one day, he would be the one fighting monsters, and in a hell mode with 3,730 of them at once!
It was a daunting task, to say the least.
Xue Wenli was well aware of the pressure this put on Su Yu, and it was a massive burden for the entire world.
She handed him the second folder. "As for the second thing, you'll understand once you see this."
Su Yu took the folder and opened it.
Each page contained a high-resolution photo of an elderly man, with a total of about twenty to thirty pages.
Almost all of these elders were male, most of them with white hair and a weathered appearance. A few who weren't completely white-haired still had gray temples and looked quite aged.
What caught Su Yu's attention was that the last few pages had photos of people who were clearly foreigners, with distinct facial features.
Before Su Yu could ask, Xue Wenli explained, "These are the photos of ancient powers who have recently come out of seclusion and joined the 'relevant departments.' The reason there are foreigners is that only our country has a spirit spring, which has attracted many foreign ancient powers to join."
Xue Wenli flipped to the first page and pointed to the photo of an elderly man. "This is Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin. The one on the second page is his chancellor, Wei Zheng."
"Ah, I see." Su Yu nodded, giving the two white-haired elders a closer look.
He never imagined this was the famous Emperor Taizong!
Xue Wenli didn't stop there.
She flipped to the second page and pointed to a man with a regal presence. "This is Emperor Wen of Sui, Yang Jian. The one who looks unkempt is the Eastern Jin poet Tao Yuanming. He claims to have eaten a rare treasure by chance, which is why he's still alive today. This one is particularly special. He calls himself Zhang Jue, the Celestial General from the Three Kingdoms period, and according to the description by our senior Zuo Ci, he is indeed the real Zhang Jue."
At this, Xue Wenli couldn't help but give Su Yu a teasing look, as if to say, "You fake, you're caught now, aren't you?"
Su Yu's face turned red with embarrassment.
He never expected the real Senior Zhang Jue to still be alive!
In his previous life, he had never heard of Zhang Jue coming out of seclusion, assuming he was long gone.
To cover his embarrassment, Su Yu coughed lightly and changed the subject. "Cough, cough. What about the foreigners in the back of the folder? I'm more interested in them."
Xue Wenli didn't embarrass Su Yu further. She smiled and flipped to the last few pages, introducing them. "This one with the prominent cheekbones is Julius Caesar from the Roman Republic, a figure from the 1st century BC. This is King Arthur of the British Empire, whose figure you might recognize from many films and TV shows. This one is Constantine XI Palaiologos, the last emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire. He is similar to our Senior Zhu Yuanzhang in that he was the last ancient power to survive in the West after the spirit energy began to wane. After him, there were no more survivors."
"Welcome, welcome, all these foreign friends!" Su Yu chuckled awkwardly.
He didn't know much about these foreigners. The name "Caesar" always made him think of "Satan"; as for "King Arthur," he suddenly thought of a blonde girl holding the "Sword of Promised Victory"—anime had done him no favors!
As for the last one, "Constantine XI," he thought he had heard the name somewhere before, but he wasn't sure.
Su Yu shook his head and continued listening to Xue Wenli's introduction.
After Xue Wenli had finished introducing all the ancient masters, Su Yu flipped through the folder and asked, "So these are all the ancient masters who have emerged so far?"
"Of course not," Xue Wenli replied, shaking her head. "There are many more ancient masters from the Shang, Zhou, Qin, and Han dynasties who have also appeared."
"However, due to language barriers, we can only communicate through written text, and many of these masters haven't agreed to have their photos taken for our records."
"Even more, some of these ancient masters have lived for so long that they've forgotten their own names, only vaguely remembering the era in which they achieved enlightenment."
"Forgetting their own names shows just how long these masters have lived," Su Yu sighed. "What about their current strength?"
"Strength," Xue Wenli thought for a moment before responding, "According to their own accounts, they were at least at the 'Soul Division' realm in the past, which is equivalent to the sixth-tier Saint Domain in the game. Only at the 'Soul Division' realm can a cultivator ensure their physical body remains uncorrupted and extend their lifespan to over 2000 years."
"As you know, after the An Lushan Rebellion in the Tang Dynasty, spiritual energy rapidly depleted, and these masters stopped displaying their powers in the world. Even with their conservation efforts, their strength has generally declined to the 'Nascent Soul' or even 'Golden Core' realms due to the lack of spiritual energy. They are currently in the process of recovering, but no one has reached the 'Soul Division' realm yet."
"So, Su Yu," Xue Wenli looked at him seriously, "after watching your video, many of these masters are eager to visit the Skrull Star, as its spiritual energy is much more abundant than here. What do you think about that?"
"Let me think about it," Su Yu pondered.
After a while, he replied, "Donna gave me six spots for the next trip to the Skrull Star. Two of them are for me and Tina, so the remaining four can be given to the masters."
"However, you must make it clear to them. First, only those at the 'Soul Division' realm can go! Second, the journey to the Skrull Star is extremely dangerous; even I have narrowly escaped death twice. They must be prepared to face the possibility of not returning."
"I understand, and I will make sure to convey that to them," Xue Wenli nodded.
Su Yu rubbed his temples, which were aching from the intense thinking, and checked the time on his phone.
It was almost 7:30 PM.
He turned to Xue Wenli, "Alright, that's all for today. At 8 PM, I'll bring Tina to your city branch, and we'll start planning the reclamation of the spiritual energy springs tonight."
"Got it, I'll make the arrangements right away! See you tonight, Su Yu," Xue Wenli turned and waved goodbye.
"Goodbye!" Su Yu bid farewell to Xue Wenli, then leaped into the sky and flew back through the window of his ninth-floor apartment.
Watching Su Yu soar into the sky, Xue Wenli couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions.
While she had conveyed all the necessary information, her mission to "seduce Su Yu" had clearly failed.
Of course! Tina is younger and more beautiful than me.
"Who would choose a twenty-something-year-old single woman over an eighteen-year-old girl?" Xue Wenli chuckled to herself, then quickly drove away.
