Chapter 412: Breaking the Mold
Chapter 412: Breaking the Mold
Before coming here, Kyle had always assumed that Snape's detention this time would involve processing complex potion ingredients, as that was often the case in Potions class.
The ingredients they used in class, including various bile, caterpillar mucus, and snake fangs, were mostly obtained this way.
He never expected that Snape would be brewing a potion this time, and a rare one at that—the Wolfsbane Potion.
In the wizarding world, those who knew how to brew this potion could be counted on one hand, and each of them was a renowned master of potions.
Kyle looked up and quickly noticed the meaningful expression on Snape's face.
Now, he seemed to understand a little.
Professor Lupin...
Perhaps due to Dumbledore's request, Snape couldn't directly reveal Professor Lupin's identity as a werewolf, but that didn't mean he couldn't give others a hint.
It seemed that Snape had gone to great lengths to get Professor Lupin out of the castle.
Kyle guessed that Snape was probably waiting for him to ask why he was brewing the Wolfsbane Potion.
As soon as he asked, Snape could take the opportunity to reveal more clues about Professor Lupin's identity.
What a scheme...
If it were any other student, they might have discovered Professor Lupin's werewolf identity under Snape's subtle guidance.
Unfortunately...
"Oh, Professor, you're so amazing, even knowing how to brew such a complex potion," Kyle praised, then continued grinding the lionfish bone powder in his hand without showing any intention to ask the reason.
Snape seemed a bit surprised, frowning as he stared at Kyle, wondering what he was thinking.
Half an hour later, he was getting a bit impatient and asked nonchalantly, "Do you know the effects of the Wolfsbane Potion?"
"Oh, I know," Kyle replied, "Headmaster Saxia from St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries once told me that the Wolfsbane Potion can suppress the werewolf curse, allowing werewolves to remain lucid during their transformation on the night of the full moon."
Kyle spoke calmly, as if he were answering a question in class, and then closed his mouth without asking any further questions.
Now, Snape was even more uncomfortable.
He couldn't understand why Kyle wasn't the least bit curious about his brewing of the Wolfsbane Potion, remaining so calm.
Snape had even prepared what to say next, but he never expected Kyle to be so uncooperative, preventing him from even taking the first step.
But he couldn't be too straightforward, or else he'd have a hard time explaining to Professor Dumbledore.
Looking at Kyle, who seemed completely unaffected, Snape suddenly regretted his decision.
If he had known, he should have asked Kyle to handle the rat spleens and armadillo bile earlier...
The dungeon classroom fell silent once again.
Kyle, of course, had no idea what Snape was thinking. He was busy processing the ingredients while sneaking glances at Snape's potion-brewing process.
This was a rare opportunity to witness the brewing of the Wolfsbane Potion up close, and it would be a pity to miss it.
It had to be said that this potion was indeed complex. After a full five hours, Kyle finally added the last piece of finely chopped wolfsbane leaf into the cauldron at Snape's signal.
As the prepared leaf was added to the cauldron, the potion inside immediately began to boil, and the color gradually changed from its original reddish-brown to a brownish hue.
"Bang!"
At that moment, the dungeon classroom door was suddenly slammed open from the outside.
Malfoy stumbled in.
"Give me a reason!"
Snape glared at him, his face darkening.
Malfoy's sudden collision startled him; he had been so engrossed in stirring his potion that he nearly dropped his wand into the cauldron.
"Yes, Professor," Malfoy said, his face looking even paler than usual. "I was in Hogsmeade... and I saw Potter's head... just floating there..."
"Oh?" Snape said coldly, "You mean Potter went to Hogsmeade?"
"Yes, it was his head..." Malfoy replied subconsciously.
"You fool!" Snape glared at him. "Don't you know about the Invisibility Cloak?"
The next moment, Malfoy's body stopped shaking. He seemed to have realized something, and his pale face quickly turned red.
"That damn Potter..." Malfoy said indignantly. "He dared to make a fool of me!"
"You fool!" Snape glanced at him again. "Follow me. I can probably guess where he appeared."
"As for you..." He turned to Kyle, "Every ten minutes, stir the cauldron counterclockwise three times... until it emits smoke of the same color as the potion. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
"No problem, Professor," Kyle nodded.
"Very well."

After saying this, Snape dragged his long black cloak and strode outside.
Malfoy followed behind him at a jog.
As soon as they left, Kyle took out a piece of parchment and a quill, recalling Snape's actions and writing something on the parchment.
It wasn't until he had filled half a sheet of parchment that Kyle folded it up and carefully put it away...
Of course, he didn't forget the task Snape had given him... stirring the cauldron.
By now, it was the third ten-minute interval, and Kyle took out his wand and gently shook it over the cauldron, causing the potion inside to rotate.
After three stirs, the potion's color deepened, and its smell became more pungent...
Kyle wasn't sure if this was normal. After all, this potion had only been invented in recent years, and even the banned book, "Powerful Potions," had no record of it.
But it should be fine, right?
Kyle sniffed carefully, and the smell was almost identical to the ones he had cleaned up earlier.
"Bang!"
At that moment, a dull sound came from the neighboring room, as if someone had thrown something against the wall.
The room next to the dungeon classroom was Snape's office.
Then, Professor Lupin's voice could be heard from the corridor outside...
"Then I'll see you next time, Severus... Harry, come with me. I need to talk to you about that paper on vampires..."
The surroundings became quiet again.
A few minutes later, the dungeon classroom door opened again, and Snape walked in, looking as if he had been forced to drink a large bottle of bitter and astringent bile.
As soon as he entered, he looked up at Kyle and said coldly, "Get out!"
"Okay..."
Although Kyle wasn't sure what had happened, he could tell from Snape's expression that he was in a terrible mood, and even a small matter could set him off at this point.
So Kyle didn't hesitate and left the dungeon classroom as Snape had instructed.
