Chapter 411: The Channel
Chapter 411: The Channel
Chen Chuan listened to the sound of the call ending on the other end, and he pondered for a moment. He wondered who this person was and where they came from—Venom Ant Express? Moss Gang? Or perhaps... Green Source Ecology Corporation?
The person's tone carried an underlying threat, but this very fact indicated limited strength and caution. Otherwise, they wouldn't have needed to talk to him; they could have just taken action.
However, this proved that the Lu Tong Logistics issue might not be as simple as a business conflict on the surface. It likely involved something more complex.
Moreover, the fact that they could find out his identity meant they knew he wouldn't stay here for long. There was no need to rush and tell him this; they could have easily waited until he left.
Or perhaps it was precisely because they knew his identity that they feared the involvement of the Upper City Processing Bureau.
This was indeed intriguing.
Perhaps he should write a report, even though the Bureau didn't typically handle matters in the Lower City. Still, this place was also a part of Central City and, thus, within the Bureau's jurisdiction.
Just as he was thinking this, Lan Shenan contacted him, "Chen Chuan, is there anything else we need to take care of? If not, we'll head back now."
Chen Chuan said, "Go back. There's one thing. Are there any Resonators here?"
Lan Shenan replied, "Yes, we have a team. Is there anything you need, Mr. Chen?"
Chen Chuan said, "Nothing much. If possible, please ask them to help me trace a signal when they have time."
The Field Domains of Upper and Lower Cities couldn't directly communicate with each other, so he couldn't ask Wu Bei for help directly. But with Resonators here, he could ask for assistance in tracing the signal.
"Okay, I'll arrange it as soon as I get back."
After the call ended, the entire convoy started moving, heading back to the camp.
As they left, one person from the Venom Ant Express group, who had recorded the previous fight between the two, walked to a corner. He spoke to the Boundary Token, "As you instructed, I recorded the scene using the device you provided. But you didn't mention how dangerous it would be. You need to give us more."
"The boss is generous!"
"Good. The meeting place is still the usual spot. I'm on my way."
Meanwhile, Lao Bian regained his senses from the scene transmitted through the Boundary Token. He was glad he hadn't started a conflict with Chen Chuan; otherwise, he might have been the one with a crushed skull instead of Gai Er.
However, many Tier Three Combatants in the Lower City had their circles, and the news of Gai Er's death spread quickly within them. Since Gai Er often interacted with Lao Bian, someone contacted him immediately.
"Lao Bian, I heard the person who killed Gai Er was hired by Lu Tong Logistics. Isn't that your territory? How come there's a new person? Did you retire? Why didn't you tell us about it?"
Lao Bian, feeling mocked, replied with a few words to dismiss the person.
But just as he finished, another person contacted him, "Lao Bian, the new guy is quite formidable. Is he your apprentice? Why haven't you mentioned him before?"
Lao Bian, holding back his anger, said, "He's not my apprentice."
"He's not your apprentice?"
The person feigned surprise, "If he's not your apprentice, why did you send him out? Lao Bian, you are truly noble and upright, letting the youth take the lead. We're just ordinary, unable to let go of our pride."
As soon as he finished with one person, another one contacted him, "Lao Bian, I saw what happened with Gai Er. I understand your decision. These young people are impulsive and lack martial virtue. We're all getting old; there's no point in fighting with them. Knowing our limits and stepping down is a wise choice. After a lifetime of struggle, can't we enjoy some peace?"
After dealing with multiple contacts, Lao Bian's face darkened. Unfortunately, his apprentice still didn't understand the situation and eagerly asked, "Master, with Gai Er's death, isn't it our turn to take action?"
"What are you talking about?!" Lao Bian shouted. The last scene he witnessed was terrifying. It was better to let Venom Ant Express and Moss Gang deal with this person.
His apprentice shrank back at his scolding and stammered, "Then, should we just let it go?"
Lao Bian snorted, "Do you think Venom Ant Express will back down after Gai Er's death? Do you think Moss Gang will give up? It's not that simple. Wait, there's an even bigger show coming."
His apprentice finally understood, but just then, someone contacted him. After answering, he said, "Master, it's someone from Venom Ant Express. They're asking if we knew that person's background and why we didn't inform them earlier?"
Lao Bian coldly laughed, "Tell them that person just arrived yesterday, and we didn't have time to investigate. Besides, they are the ones who arranged the fight. Shouldn't they have done their research? Why would they need us to provide information?"
"Oh.
"My apprentice then said, 'Master, Venom Ant Express said this matter isn't over yet.'"
Old Bian hummed, feeling a bit annoyed. He wondered if they were unable to handle the situation on their side, so they came to him to make threats? Did they think he was an easy target to bully?
After the Lu Tong Logistics convoy returned to the camp, Chen Chuan got off the vehicle, and the Resonator Lan Shenan had found for him also arrived. He was a serious and earnest man in his thirties named Chi.
After examining the situation, Chi said, "Mr. Chen, this should just be a boundary signal. In the Lower City District, to avoid tracking signals, they usually use a point-to-point transmission method. They receive the signal through an unrelated person and then forward it outward. Sometimes, it might go through several relays."
"In the end, they don't even know where it's going. It's a simple method, but very effective. Even if we find this boundary point, it's likely just a hired person from a platform, not the main person. Of course, if Mr. Chen insists on finding them, we can track them down."
Chen Chuan said, "Is that so? Thank you." Even if they changed to a more skilled technician, it would be useless, so there was no need to continue the search.
He thought for a moment and then asked, "Is there a way to connect to the Upper City District from here?"
Old Chi replied, "The Upper City District will block the field domain of the Lower City District, but with certain technical means, you can bypass it through some loopholes. However, these loopholes are currently in the hands of various gangs and organizations. We used to have a signal channel, but after Lu Tong Express had issues, we lost the channel."
"Now, if we want to establish a stable connection with the Upper City, we'll have to buy signals from other gangs and teams. Besides paying a large sum of money, we can't even guarantee the confidentiality of the conversation."
"If Chen Xiaoge has something urgent or confidential to communicate with the Upper City, we can try to set up a strong signal. However, since it's a 'private' signal, it might be targeted and interfered with. So, the conversation time can't be too long. If it's limited to within three minutes, it should be fine."
Chen Chuan nodded. "Thank you. In that case, please prepare, Mr. Chi. I might need it later."
Old Chi said, "No problem. Captain Lan said to cooperate with you fully. I'll go and make the preparations now."
