Chapter 410: The Fifth Disciple
Chapter 410: The Fifth Disciple
"Jiraiya-san, do you know about the Rinnegan?" After a moment of silence, Mu Yue chose to confide in Longmen.
"Yes, I do." Mu Yue nodded with a smile. "It's the eye of the Sage of the Six Paths, and it's right here before me."
Longmen looked at Mu Yue in astonishment. Unbeknownst to him, Mu Yue had already recognized his Rinnegan.
"Don't be too surprised. There are quite a few descendants of the Sage of the Six Paths in the world, and anyone familiar with the Sage can recognize your eyes." Mu Yue explained.
Longmen's expression showed that he was learning something new. It only occurred to him that he should share his story with Mu Yue when he saw that Mu Yue wasn't going to say anything more.
"While these are my eyes, I haven't been able to control their power well yet. The first time I discovered this power was the day my parents were killed by Konoha ninjas." Longmen's expression darkened as he spoke of his parents' death.
It was a painful memory that still haunted him to this day. He used to have a happy family.
Mu Yue gently patted Longmen on the back. Even among the Hokages, Longmen's life in the original story was particularly tragic.
Chosen by Uchiha Madara to be the vessel for the Rinnegan, his life was orchestrated from the start, always losing those dear to him.
"Because of my parents, I hated Konoha ninjas. But there was one Konoha ninja who changed my perception—Jiraiya-sensei." Longmen's expression softened as he spoke of Jiraiya.
If there was a ranking of important people in Longmen's heart, Yahiko would be first, Konan second, and Jiraiya third.
Jiraiya taught Longmen many ninjutsu, hoping to help him better control the power of the Rinnegan. Jiraiya also often encouraged and comforted Longmen when he was feeling down.
Even today, Longmen occasionally dreams of the time he spent with Jiraiya—a time when life was carefree and he didn't have to worry about so many things.
Jiraiya showed them that not all Konoha ninjas were bad, and that it depended on the individual.
"One of the Sannin, Jiraiya. I know of him; he's an extraordinary ninja." Mu Yue smiled in response.
"Jiraiya-sensei taught me a lot. The last time Yahiko was attacked by a ninja, I couldn't control the power of the Rinnegan and ended up killing him. I didn't really want to kill him, because there's always a better solution than taking a life," said Longmen, bowing his head slightly.
Longmen didn't like killing; he thought it was the worst possible outcome. So, the pain of losing himself due to the Rinnegan's rampage was unbearable.
"Despite Jiraiya-sensei teaching me so many ninjutsu, I still ended up like this. Maybe I was the only one he misjudged. No one can save me; how can I possibly save the world?" Longmen's mood sank further.
"Don't put yourself down like that. If it weren't for your intervention, someone among Yahiko and the others might have been hurt. You protected your companions." Mu Yue looked into Longmen's eyes and said.
"And since they attacked you, it's only natural that you counter-attacked. Their deaths are not your fault."
Longmen gazed at Mu Yue, and behind him, he seemed to see the familiar figure of Jiraiya with white hair.
"Jiraiya-san, what do you think is the path to achieving peace?" Longmen found himself asking.
He wanted to know if Mu Yue's answer would be the same as Jiraiya's.
"If you're asking about a plan that will definitely bring peace, then I don't have one." Mu Yue replied.
"But if we're talking about striving for peace, that's exactly what we're doing right now."
"Spreading the idea of peace, raising public awareness, improving ourselves..."
Longmen looked at Mu Yue again, and the white-haired figure behind him disappeared. They were, after all, different.
Jiraiya's answer back then was even more vague.
Jiraiya said he didn't have an answer, but he believed that experiencing pain allowed people to grow, to think, and to learn how to be gentle with others. Perhaps, he said, if everyone could understand each other, the world would achieve peace.
Before Jiraiya left, he entrusted the quest for peace to Longmen. He believed that Longmen, with the Rinnegan, might be the reincarnation of the Sage of the Six Paths, and that Longmen's eyes carried the hope for peace.
Longmen felt that Mu Yue was more like the savior Jiraiya had spoken of than he himself was.
The Sage of the Six Paths traveled the ninja world, spreading peace and establishing the ninja way, and Mu Yue was doing the same in the Land of Rain.
"Don't put too much pressure on yourself," Mu Yue said earnestly. "While you have the same eyes as the Sage of the Six Paths, you don't have to compare yourself to him. You are you, Longmen; no one else."
In his opinion, Longmen was the type to put a lot of pressure on himself.
This personality trait could be troublesome because people had limited capacity, and too much pressure could lead to a breakdown.
If Obito had gone berserk and defeated the enemy, he wouldn't have blamed himself. Instead, he would have bragged about it to Rin and Kakashi.
Of course, Mu Yue wasn't saying that Obito's approach was better. He just felt that a balance between the two would be ideal.
Longmen's body trembled. Even Jiraiya had never said such things to him.
Instead of telling him he was the reincarnation of the Sage of the Six Paths or the savior, Longmen found that he preferred Mu Yue's words: "You are you, Longmen."
The image of Mu Yue in Longmen's mind gradually became richer. This was someone worth acknowledging.
"If you don't mind having one more teacher, I could try teaching you some ninjutsu. Hopefully, it will help you control the Rinnegan." Mu Yue said with a smile.
"Haven't I already been learning from you?" Longmen asked honestly.
Mu Yue's lessons had always been taken seriously by Longmen.
[Do you want to establish a master-disciple relationship with Longmen?]
Seeing the pop-up window on the system panel, Mu Yue smiled, "Of course. But from now on, I'll teach you some more specialized ninjutsu."
Without a doubt, Mu Yue clicked "Yes." This was the first time he had expended so much effort during the disciple-receiving stage.
Just planning to accept Longmen as a disciple took Mu Yue quite some time, let alone the actual execution.
[Relationship established successfully. Current trust level is 2. Disciple Longmen has unlocked "Disciple's Cultivation Returns to Master" and "Teaching Returns."]
The initial trust level of 2 satisfied Mu Yue. It showed that Longmen already had some trust in him.
Mu Yue valued Longmen's trust level greatly. After all, the reason he took Longmen as a disciple was because of his chakra, and the higher the trust level, the more beneficial "Disciple's Cultivation Returns to Master" would be.
Longmen's current chakra was over 600,000. Mu Yue felt that at Longmen's peak, he should have over 5 million chakra. If he could raise the trust level to 4 before the high-speed growth period, Mu Yue would never have to worry about chakra again.
This was the primary reason Mu Yue was so eager to take Nagato as his disciple—the chakra gains were simply too alluring.
"You must be tired today. Get some rest early," Mu Yue said with a gentle smile to Nagato.
It was getting late, not an ideal time for teaching, and Mu Yue also had to consider Nagato's Rinnegan, being cautious of Pein's surveillance.
Mu Yue had already contemplated these matters before arriving in the Land of Rain.
With his current sealing jutsu prowess, he was capable of setting up a barrier that Pein wouldn't be able to eavesdrop on, and he could then teach Nagato within that secure space.
The excuse he would use was that Nagato's Rinnegan was unique, and to prevent him from losing control and harming others, a special environment was necessary.
Nagato nodded. Indeed, he was exhausted in every way today.
...
The Rain Ninja that Danzo sent out worked swiftly.
They first visited the villagers at the location Danzo provided and obtained two pieces of intelligence.
One was an eyewitness account of Yahiko and his group fighting with the Rock Ninja, and the other was that Yahiko's group had searched for the Rock Ninja's bodies.
With these two pieces of evidence, it was almost certain that Yahiko and his group had killed the Rock Ninja.
Then, the Rain Ninja inquired about the content spread by the Ninjutsu Sect's ninjas, and it was mostly consistent with what Danzo had said.
Looking at the intelligence in his hand, Danzo's expression turned gloomy.
He had once reminded Mu Yue out of goodwill, but he never expected Mu Yue to repay him in such a way.
Although Mu Yue didn't do these things personally, in Danzo's eyes, Mu Yue was the leader of that group of ninjas, and thus he should be held responsible.
Seeing Danzo's reaction, Danzo Shimura continued to fan the flames, "In my opinion, this Sou Yuukei must be plotting to seize control of the Rain Ninja Village. He wants to lure you, Danzo-sama, into leading the Rain Ninja Village into a war with the Rock Ninja Village, only to ultimately reap the benefits himself."
"Danzo-sama, you are too lenient on geniuses. They do not possess the willpower that you and I have. Once they gain power, fame, and wealth, they will inevitably be corrupted."
"Indeed, something must be done," Danzo coldly nodded in agreement. Mu Yue and the Ninjutsu Sect's actions had crossed his bottom line.
Danzo Shimura's smile grew broader as the situation unfolded exactly as he had hoped.
"My men have helped cover things up, so the Rock Ninja Village probably won't find out about this so soon. If you don't want to go to war with them, Danzo-sama, you can get rid of them quickly and give the Rock Ninja Village an explanation," Danzo Shimura continued.
He was eager to see the three powers in the Land of Rain destroy each other, preferably leaving both sides heavily damaged.
"Thank you for your help, Danzo Shimura," Danzo said, feeling grateful for Danzo Shimura's assistance.
"I have another idea that can make it easier for you to deal with Sou Yuukei and his group," Danzo Shimura offered his strategy.
Danzo looked at Danzo Shimura curiously, wondering what this easier method was.
"Since Sou Yuukei talks about wanting peace, you can invite them to a location under the pretext of wanting to borrow their strength to maintain peace together. We'll set up traps and ambush them with our ninjas, making victory much easier," Danzo Shimura explained with a cold smile.
In his opinion, dealing with naive peacekeepers like Sou Yuukei was simple; all it took was a lofty ideal about peace to lure them in.
Danzo showed a look of agreement. Danzo Shimura's plan was indeed highly feasible and would make his victory much smoother.
Even for a ninja of his caliber, having the advantage of a suitable location made a significant difference.
"At that time, I will dispatch Leaf Ninja to assist you. But I also hope that you will support me in other matters in the future," Danzo Shimura hinted.
"Mutual help is what friends are for," Danzo indicated that he had no objections.
Danzo didn't mind having another powerful friend like Danzo Shimura, especially since Danzo Shimura had just done him a considerable favor.
If not for Danzo Shimura, the Rain Ninja Village might have already been at war with the Rock Ninja Village.
After finalizing the plan, Danzo quickly dispatched a messenger to find Mu Yue.
On Mu Yue's side, he had just completed his travels in the Land of Rain, and the Ninjutsu Sect, which belonged to Mu Yue, was officially established. All ninjas except for Kakuzu had joined the sect.
At first, Yahiko was still concerned about the Rock Ninja incident, but as there were no immediate developments, he gradually put it out of his mind and focused on expanding the Akatsuki.
He believed that the Akatsuki and the Ninjutsu Sect did not conflict with each other. After all, the Ninjutsu Sect was not exactly a ninja organization in the traditional sense; it was more like a belief system, with its followers embracing the sect's ideology and aspiring for peace.
Indeed, some ninjas were moved by Yahiko's words and joined the Akatsuki. On the one hand, the Akatsuki had already gained some notoriety in the Land of Rain, and on the other hand, these ninjas discovered the Akatsuki's merits during their interactions with its members.
However, even more people wanted to continue following Mu Yue, awaiting his next instructions.
During this period, a messenger from the Rain Ninja Village arrived with Danzo's proposal for Mu Yue.
"Sou Yuukei, this is Danzo-sama's personal letter. Please read it carefully," the Rain Ninja said to Mu Yue, offering him a scroll.
Mu Yue's alias had become quite famous in the Land of Rain, and most of the country's ninjas recognized it.
Mu Yue nodded slightly and took the scroll, opening it to read its contents.
Beside him, Yahiko leaned in curiously to take a look as well.
"Inviting the Ninjutsu Sect to maintain peace in the Land of Rain together!" Yahiko exclaimed in surprise, his eyes widening.
The other ninjas crowded around to read the scroll as well.
Mu Yue didn't stop them and, considering those who might not be able to see, he read the contents of the scroll aloud.
Most of it was fluff, and the real crux of the matter, as Yahiko had shouted out, was Danzo's desire to cooperate with the Ninjutsu Sect.
Many of the Ninjutsu Sect's ninjas revealed expressions of shock and delight.
Danzo held a special place in the hearts of the Rain Ninja, and this scroll was almost like a personal endorsement from Danzo, carrying a lot of weight.
Yahiko, who idolized Danzo, was thrilled, as he too was a member of the Ninjutsu Sect.
However, there were also those who were indifferent to Danzo, like Chouzaya, who felt that something was amiss.
Chouzaya didn't deny that the Ninjutsu Sect had an extremely bright future, but at present, the sect wasn't particularly strong, and Mu Yue was their only true powerhouse.
Normally, Danzo shouldn't have needed to be so solemn in inviting the Ninjutsu Sect to cooperate. If he wanted Mu Yue's battle prowess, he could have simply recruited Mu Yue directly.
