Chapter 410: Confinement
Chapter 410: Confinement
Due to losing the piece of paper with the password written on it, Professor McGonagall forbade Neville from going to Hogsmeade again.
Perhaps she was afraid that Neville would lose something else... She had always suspected that Sirius Black was in Hogsmeade and had picked up the paper Neville had dropped.
So when the next Hogsmeade Visit Day arrived, Neville watched as the others left the castle joyfully, then quietly turned and headed up the stairs.
Neville didn't complain in his heart; instead, he felt that Professor McGonagall's decision was right.
He always lost things and messed everything up. Not knowing the password might be better, as he couldn't remember it anyway.
Although this would undoubtedly make things very inconvenient in the future and he couldn't come and go as he pleased, at least he didn't have to worry about causing more trouble.
To be honest, when Neville learned that it was because of him that Sirius Black had broken into the Gryffindor Common Room and almost killed Ron, his blood ran cold, and his whole body couldn't stop trembling.
After that, he had nightmares for several consecutive days.
Ron became the new ghost of Gryffindor, and he also got a new name... Nearly Headless Weasley.
There was no choice; Neville was most familiar with Nearly Headless Nick, so it was natural for him to put Ron's face on the ghost.
In his dreams, Ron kept questioning him, asking why he wrote the password on paper and gave it to Sirius Black.
Each time, Neville was awakened by his own explanations, and his shouting scared the others, including Ron.
To be honest, in Ron's opinion, the scare Sirius Black gave him was not even half as bad as Neville's.
Neville didn't know when it started, but the dormitory seemed to have turned into another Divination classroom.
He hadn't had a good night's sleep for several days. Every time he closed his eyes, the next second, Neville would be shouting beside him... Ron, I didn't mean to get you killed.
Or,
"Nearly Headless Weasley, let me go! It was Black who killed you..."
The problem was that he was still alive and well, able to eat, sleep, and even do homework...
Also, what was Nearly Headless Weasley? He didn't remember having any relationship with that Sir Cadogan.
Once or twice was fine, but doing it every day was too much to bear... It was too scary.
Even though he had told Neville more than once that he forgave him, it was still useless.
If it weren't for not wanting to leave Harry, Ron would have wanted to change dormitories.
This situation didn't improve until the last few days.
Neville didn't want the events in his dreams to come true, so he didn't want to know the password.
Without knowing the password, Black couldn't use him to enter the Gryffindor Common Room...
Hmm? Neville suddenly paused as this thought crossed his mind.
He turned and looked around at the empty staircase, pondering a question seriously...
Now that almost everyone had gone to Hogsmeade, how could he get back without knowing the password? Although there were still some senior students in the Common Room, with the castle's soundproofing, no matter how loudly he shouted, they wouldn't be able to hear him.
"Oh, how could I forget this!" Neville thought anxiously as he wandered aimlessly through the castle.
As he turned down a corridor on the fourth floor, he suddenly noticed someone else ahead.
"Harry!" Neville exclaimed happily, "I forgot that you're not going to Hogsmeade either!"
He was genuinely delighted... Finally, he could return to the Common Room.
"Hey, Neville," Harry quickly moved away from the statue of the hunchbacked witch and said nonchalantly, "What are you doing here?"
"Nothing much," Neville replied, "Want to play Exploding Snap? I have a deck in my dormitory."
It was too cold outside, and he missed the warm fireplace in the Common Room.
"Uh... not now..." Harry stuttered, trying to come up with an excuse to get rid of Neville so he could sneak through the secret passage to Hogsmeade.
"Maybe next time, I have to go to the library to work on the essay about vampires that Professor Lupin assigned..."
"Great," Neville said excitedly.
Going to the library wasn't a bad idea, and he hadn't paid attention in that class anyway.
"You can help me..."
He suddenly closed his mouth and gasped, looking behind Harry.
It was Professor Snape, along with Kyle.
They seemed to have just come down from the floor above and were talking.
"Professor, I'd be happy to help you with some tasks, but today is the Hogsmeade visit day, and I'm already running late..."
"Watch your tone, it's not helping, it's detention," Snape said without turning around. "If you don't brew the potion in the correct order next time, you won't be going to Hogsmeade again."
"But my Polyjuice Potion was fine, it's the standard yellow color," Kyle said.
"Don't you understand what I'm saying? How many times do I need to repeat it, your steps are not following the book!"
As he spoke, Snape's gaze suddenly turned to them.
"What are you two doing here?" he stopped and scanned the two, "It's strange that you're meeting here."
Snape looked around, and finally followed Harry's gaze to the hunchbacked witch statue.
"We weren't meeting, we just... ran into each other," Harry said nervously.
"Is that so?" Snape said, "You always seem to appear in places where you're not expected, Potter, and rarely with a good reason... I suggest you two go back to Gryffindor Tower, that's where you belong."
Neville and Harry quickly took their leave.
After they left, Kyle asked Snape, "And what about me?"
"You're not going!" Snape said without hesitation.
"But isn't the matter with the Fat Lady on the eighth floor resolved?"
"That's only part of it," Snape drawled. "I have other things to attend to now, come to the dungeon classroom an hour later... if you dare to be late by one second, I guarantee you'll never go to Hogsmeade again."
After saying that, he turned to face the hunchbacked witch statue, occasionally tapping on it with his wand.
"Okay, Professor!"
Kyle didn't look at Snape again and left the corridor.
With only an hour left, going to Hogsmeade was definitely out of the question, so he decided to find something else to do to pass the time.
When he reached the second floor, Kyle ran into Neville again.
He was leaning against a pillar at the edge of the stairs, looking idle.
"What are you doing here?" Kyle asked. "Where's Harry?"
"Oh, we were going to head back to the tower, but Harry said he had something else to do, so he left. I don't know the password, so I'm going to the library for a bit."
"What about you?" he asked. "Why were you with Snape on the fourth floor, and didn't go to Hogsmeade?"
"Obviously not," Kyle said. "I'm on detention, I was just helping the Fat Lady's portrait on the eighth floor with some special potions. Next time Black tries to tear it up, it won't be so easy."
"That's great..." Neville said happily. "We're all sick of that Sir Cadogan, who wouldn't want him to come back."
"Where are you headed now, back to the Common Room?"
"No, I'm going to the library," Kyle shook his head. "I still have some homework to finish for a few classes."
"That's great," Neville's eyes lit up. "Can you help me? I never understood that lesson on vampires, do you have to eat garlic for it to work, or..."
