Chapter 41: The Spiky Sea Snail
Chapter 41: The Spiky Sea Snail
Jiang Xia had no idea that the heroine was keeping an eye on her.
At that moment, Zhou’s mother, the eldest son’s family, and the great-grandmother rushed over.
Tian Caihua’s eyes turned red when she saw Jiang Xia had already collected a basket of shrimp and half a basket of fish. Zhou’s father was still gathering piles of shrimp, and she couldn’t help but blurt out, “You’ve picked all the fish and shrimp from this beach! Why didn’t you call us earlier?”
Besides the shrimp, the tornado had also brought up some fish. A single fish was worth more than a shrimp, so Zhou Chenglei and Jiang Xia would always pick them up first.
Jiang Xia didn’t even bother to acknowledge Tian Caihua, not even a glance.
The more attention you gave such people, the more they gloated. She could earn more money by picking up a few more shrimp.
Let her talk to herself and stew in her own frustration!
Zhou Chenglei didn’t say anything either.
Zhou’s father said, “Xia told us she wanted to come even though it was still raining! Hurry up and start picking! Take advantage of the fact that no one else is here yet. Xia and Ailei braved the rain to come.”
Tian Caihua pursed her lips, putting aside her sour feelings to rush over to a dense area to pick shrimp.
She was using a small iron shovel to gather the shrimp into a pile, but she saw Jiang Xia and Zhou Chenglei using rakes to quickly gather the shrimp from all around!
She regretted it deeply!
If she had known, she would have brought a rake too.
She suspected that Jiang Xia must have known there would be so many shrimp on the beach.
But how was that possible?
She must have just been lucky.
Some people were just born lucky, like Jiang Xia. Her father was a high-ranking official, and her mother was a factory manager. She had heard that Jiang Xia rode in a jeep to school since she was young.
Life was so unfair. She was almost abandoned at birth for being a girl, and there was no chance for her to go to school.
Zhou’s mother and the great-grandmother also noticed how effective the modified rakes were in Jiang Xia and Zhou Chenglei’s hands.
The great-grandmother asked, “How did you think of making the rake like this?”
Zhou’s mother smiled, “Xia did it.”
The great-grandmother said, “Oh, Xia is so smart! Educated people really are clever!”
Zhou’s mother agreed wholeheartedly, her face beaming as she looked at the basket of shrimp.
Jiang Xia’s luck with the sea was truly remarkable. After a typhoon, there were never this many shrimp before. It was a once-in-a-lifetime event!
Others went to the beach to gather seafood, but on her first visit, the beach was teeming with fish and shrimp waiting for her to collect.
Zhou’s mother regretted not coming earlier.
Excited, she started picking up shrimp from the beach.
As the rain lessened, more villagers began to arrive, and the beach quickly filled with people.
In less than half an hour, the entire beach was crowded.
Zhou Chenglei called Zhou’s father to gather the shrimp in the net.
With so many people on the beach, they had already collected a good amount of shrimp. Jiang Xia decided to head over to the rocks.
Zhou Chenglei called out to her as she walked away, “Jiang Xia, where are you going?”
Jiang Xia pointed to the rocks, “I’m going to check over there.”
Zhou Chenglei reminded her, “Be careful. The rocks might be slippery.”
Jiang Xia nodded, acknowledging his warning, and then walked toward the rocks with her bucket.
Wen Wan heard Zhou Chenglei call Jiang Xia and looked over, seeing Jiang Xia heading toward the rock pile. Her heart raced!
She had searched the beach but couldn’t find the two pearl snails from her dream. They must be in the rock pile.
Jiang Xia couldn’t get to them first!
She needed to earn money for her tuition.
Wen Wan hurried toward the rock pile.
Jiang Xia noticed Wen Wan walking past her quickly toward the rock pile but didn’t pay much attention.
The beach wasn’t hers, and she couldn’t control where people went.
Jiang Xia walked at a steady pace, occasionally stopping to dig at air bubbles in the sand with her small shovel, checking for shellfish.
As she slowly made her way to the rock pile, a large object suddenly flew through the air and hit her calf.
Jiang Xia looked down at the large, spiky sea snail that had landed at her feet.
It was a large, spiky creature! Jiang Xia felt a chill of fear. Fortunately, she was wearing long rubber boots, or her calves would have been punctured with several bloody holes!
However, she still felt a sharp pain in one spot on her calf! When she lifted her pant leg to check, she saw that she had indeed been pricked.
A drop of blood quickly formed and trickled down her white, tender skin, flowing into her rubber boots.
Jiang Xia quickly pressed on the wound to stop the bleeding.
Zhou Junjie had almost stepped on a spiky sea snail. If he had, even with shoes on, his foot would have been crippled! In a fit of anger, he kicked it away, not realizing it would hit Jiang Xia.
It must have hit her foot! Jiang Xia's skin was so pale and smooth, and her legs were only exposed in a small section, glowing white from a distance.
He was about to walk over, feigning concern, and touch her...
But he was pulled back by Pan Daiti. "Where are you going?"
"It hit someone. I'm going to check if they're hurt."
Pan Daiti had also seen Jiang Xia get hit and bleeding. Her skin was so pale that the blood was particularly noticeable.
She pulled Zhou Junjie away, frustrated. "Are you stupid? Going up now to offer compensation? Of course, you deny it! There are so many people on the beach; who knows who did it? Don't admit it!"
At that moment, Jiang Xia looked up to see who had kicked such a dangerous object.
In that direction, she saw Pan Daiti and her son, along with a few villagers bent over picking things up.
She suspected it was Pan Daiti and her son, but she couldn't be sure.
"Who kicked that sea snail over? It hit someone and caused an injury!"
Pan Daiti loudly replied, "We didn't see it, it wasn't us!"
From a distance, Zhou Chenglei saw Jiang Xia lifting her pant leg and the blood on her calf.
The shrimp in the net had been collected, and he handed the remaining net to his father before rushing over.
Wen Wan had also seen Jiang Xia get hit and the large, spiky creature that caused it!
Her breath caught for a moment! It was the sea snail from her dream, the one that contained a pearl!
The spiky shell had left a deep impression on her.
Wen Wan hurried over.
She hoped Jiang Xia wouldn't pick it up, wouldn't pick it up! She wasn't from the seaside, so she probably didn't know what it was.
Zhou Chenglei ran over just as Jiang Xia was bending down to press on her bleeding leg.
He squatted down. "How did you get hurt? Let me see."
"It's nothing. Someone kicked this thing over, and it hit my calf. Luckily, I was wearing rubber boots, which provided some protection. Only one of the long spikes got me; otherwise, my leg would have been crippled."
"I need to check the depth of the wound," Zhou Chenglei insisted. If the wound was too deep, she might need a tetanus shot.
Jiang Xia released her hand. "It's not too deep. The bone stopped it, and the rubber boot absorbed most of the impact."
Zhou Chenglei glanced at the wound. Thankfully, it wasn't too deep. He looked up at her. "Does your bone hurt? I'll take you to the clinic to get it checked."
Being hit by such a large, spiky creature, he wasn't sure if she had injured her bone.
Going to the clinic again? Jiang Xia quickly shook her head. "No, it didn't hit with much force. There's no need to go to the clinic. It's not that serious. The bleeding has already stopped. If we go, the doctor will just laugh at us."
Zhou Chenglei remembered the last time she had a fever and he took her to the doctor. "It's normal to see a doctor when you're injured."
Wen Wan approached and glanced at the sea snail, speaking gently. "Sister Jiang Xia, are you hurt? Are you okay?"
Jiang Xia was surprised by her concern. "I'm fine. I got hit by this thing, but I don't know who kicked it over."
Jiang Xia lightly kicked the spiky sea snail with her foot.
The sea snail rolled to Wen Wan's feet.
Wen Wan's heart skipped a beat, but she bent down to pick it up as if nothing had happened.
