Chapter 41: The Deathly Hallows and Gifts
A few days later, the opportunity Ivan had been waiting for still hadn't appeared. Quirrell seemed to have become even more cautious and hadn't made any significant moves for several days.
Ivan had no choice but to shift his focus to the upcoming Christmas. He planned to prepare a Christmas gift for Harry and the others. He still had a good amount of Galleons left after buying the materials.
As for the remaining time, he spent half of it in the library and the other half with the Weasley twins. With a relatively ample amount of funds, they eagerly embarked on their grand project, using the holiday break to research the crafting of Magical artifacts.
Ivan, serving as a special consultant, naturally joined them. Since the beginning of the term, his Magic Item Crafting skill had finally advanced to the First Level.
As a result of his advancement in Magic Item Crafting, Ivan decided to gift Ron a set of special Wizard Chess as a Christmas present, which would save him some Galleons.
The gift for Hermione was a set of reading notes he had written, containing a wealth of casting tips he knew. He believed the young witch would enjoy it.
As for Harry's gift, Ivan thought for a long time but couldn't come up with anything particularly unique. In the end, he decided to give him a small Christmas gift box. When opened, four little figures would pop out, circling around and singing "Merry Christmas" together.
The four figures were Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ivan himself.
For the Weasley twins, Ivan gave them a few Fizzing Whizzbees. These were his recreations of the twins' original works from the books, and he was eager to see their reaction to this "surprise."
At the same time, Ivan was also looking forward to the gifts he would receive the next day.
The night passed quickly, and on Christmas morning, Ivan saw Harry and Ron excitedly opening their gift boxes as soon as they woke up. Seeing this, Ivan joined them.
As soon as he opened his first gift, Ivan heard Ron exclaim excitedly.
"Wow, this Wizard Chess is amazing, Ivan! How did you do it?"
Ron was holding the Wizard Chess Ivan had given him, examining it closely.
During the making process, Ivan had added beautiful and elaborate designs to the chess pieces. The soldiers were transformed into various robed wizards, the knights into unicorns and Thestrals, and the higher-ranking pieces into creatures like dragons. The king of the red side was a white-bearded old man, whom Ron recognized as Dumbledore, while the king of the black side was unrecognizable to him.
Although the rules hadn't changed, the setup of the game made it feel like a wizarding war. Ivan had enhanced the game with magic, adding various light effects.
Ron was delighted but still asked, "Who is Dumbledore's opponent?"
"Grindelwald", Ivan explained.
"Who's that?" Harry chimed in, having heard Ron mention the word "Dark Wizard."
"Don't you remember? Professor Dumbledore's greatest achievement, besides discovering the twelve uses of dragon blood, was defeating the Dark Wizard Grindelwald in 1945", Ivan reminded them.
Harry then remembered that he had once received a Dumbledore card that said the same thing.
Next, Harry successfully opened the gift Ivan had given him. The gift that played Christmas songs with the little figures almost made him think it was the best Christmas gift he could receive.
Until he opened the last package and found a silver-gray, fluid-like fabric.
"What is this?" Harry asked, feeling it curiously.
"It's an Invisibility Cloak", Ivan said, eyeing the legendary Deathly Hallow with interest. He asked, "Can I touch it?"
"Of course", Harry handed the Invisibility Cloak to Ivan, who took it.
At the same time, Ivan noticed that his system's Magic Items section had a new entry about the Invisibility Cloak.
[Magic Item: Invisibility Cloak (Deathly Hallow)
Magic: Extremely Strong
Description: According to legend, this is a Deathly Hallow made from Death's own cloak and crafted by Death. It possesses unimaginable magic, allowing the wearer to conceal themselves and avoid detection.
"It's just a permanent enhanced Disillusionment Charm, yet they make it sound so exaggerated", Ivan muttered under his breath.
From the original story, the Deathly Hallows seemed overhyped to Ivan. As the holder, Harry had been detected by Dumbledore, Snape, and even Mad-Eye Moody's magical eye, and couldn't even avoid the Dementors' detection. If the Deathly Hallows were only this powerful, it was too disappointing.
The Resurrection Stone's function was merely to summon the souls of the dead for communication, which didn't live up to its name.
The only one that seemed impressive was the Elder Wand, which provided a significant power boost to wizards of Dumbledore and Voldemort's level. However, the wand's ownership changed after the holder lost a battle, which was too risky.
While complaining, Ivan tried putting on the Invisibility Cloak. In Harry and Ron's eyes, Ivan disappeared right before them. Harry tried reaching out to where Ivan was and touched a thin, fluid-like film.
Meanwhile, Ivan, inside the Invisibility Cloak, was experiencing the strange sensation. The thin cloak seemed to completely isolate him from the outside world. Everything he saw from inside the cloak had a hazy, unreal quality.
Ivan took a few steps and made some deliberate sounds, asking Harry and Ron if they could hear him. He concluded that the Invisibility Cloak did provide some level of isolation, but it wasn't as completely invisible as he had imagined.
He wondered how it could receive such a high evaluation from the system—perhaps this was the limit of the world's magic?
"A very practical item", Ivan said after experimenting for a while. He then took off the Invisibility Cloak and returned it to Harry without any hesitation.
If he wanted a similar effect, he could always learn the Disillusionment Charm from the Restricted Section. It just consumed more magic and couldn't last as long.
Harry and Ron were also excited to try out the Invisibility Cloak. Ivan, meanwhile, started going through his Christmas gifts.
There was a bag of candies, two irregular round objects, a notebook, ten Galleons, and a crescent-shaped pendant with his name engraved on it.
