Chapter 41: Ride Wooloo: Show Me Your Strength!
Chapter 41: Ride Wooloo: Show Me Your Strength!
As the saying goes, everything is ready, and all that's missing is the east wind.
Naoki had prepared Black Truffle Rice Porridge, which could enhance the quality of milk, and all he needed now was a Pokemon that could produce milk.
He temporarily set aside the idea of getting a Miltank.
Firstly, he had spent most of his money on building the salt house, and he needed to save the rest for buying the next batch of seeds.
Secondly, the Pokemon house was still not repaired, and he had no place to keep the Miltank.
These domesticated milk-producing Pokemon had specific requirements for their living environment. They thrived in a warm indoor space, as a comfortable environment benefited their milk production.
In contrast, Ride Wooloo and Ride Gogoat didn't have such concerns, as they were used to roughing it.
They could generate energy from the leaves on their backs using just water and sunlight, allowing them to survive even in rocky mountains with scarce food sources.
Unlike the indoor-loving Miltank, they preferred open grasslands where the breeze could blow through, giving them constant access to fresh grass to graze on.
So, Naoki planned to fence off the tall grass on the west side of the ranch and build an open-air pen for the Ride Wooloo family to live in.
"I'll come with you!" Naoki's intention resonated with Naoji, who quickly got up and started packing the campsite with Onion the Marill.
They extinguished the campfire and folded the tent, stowing it away in their backpacks.
The large tent seemed to magically shrink and disappear into Naoji's small backpack, leaving Naoki amazed.
"A Space Backpack?" Naoki exclaimed, his eyes widening in surprise.
"Pretty amazing, huh?" Naoji confirmed. "It's a must-have item for any trainer embarking on a journey. You can fit so much stuff in here."
Naoki peered into the backpack as Naoji unzipped it, marveling at the expansive space within that somehow accommodated not just the tent but also chairs, tables, and cookware.
This was indeed dark technology!
He immediately thought of how useful it would be for fishing, far surpassing the functionality of a mere fishing net.
Naoki made up his mind to inquire about Space Backpacks at the town's department store as soon as he returned.
For now, he accompanied Naoji to the area where Ride Wooloos were known to roam.
Having heard about Naoki's intention to catch a Pokemon, Naoji offered to guide him, as he was familiar with the terrain and knew exactly where to find Ride Wooloos.
The two circled around Big Pot Lake, traversing a shallow beach before reaching an area dense with lush grass.
Sure enough, they spotted three Ride Wooloos leisurely grazing.
"One, two, three... there are three of them. Which one do you plan to catch?" Naoji whispered.
"I want them all, of course!" Naoki replied excitedly.
"...” Naoji was momentarily speechless, but then he recalled how he had scolded a trainer for catching a group of Salax and leaving behind a horde of Salax babies. If Naoki intended to catch them all, it wasn't that different.
"Well, now you should jump out and challenge them," Naoji suggested, knowing that Naoki wasn't a trainer. He proceeded to explain the process of capturing Pokemon for the uninitiated Naoki.
However, Naoki's method of capturing Pokemon differed from that of a typical trainer.
He shook his head, declining Naoji's proposal, and instead pulled out three green dumplings from his bag.
"What's that?" Naoji asked, puzzled. "Are those ancient Poke Balls used by trainers in the past to capture Pokemon in close-quarters combat?"
He had heard stories from centuries ago when trainers relied on a substance called "Nian Wan" to capture Pokemon in intense hand-to-hand battles.
"No," Naoki replied, slightly exasperated. "These are special treats I made for them."

In reality, Ride Wooloos were incredibly adorable.
They resembled little sheep, with fluffy, deep brown fur covering their bodies, white fur on their faces, and a brown patch of fur connecting their eyebrows to their backs, giving them a cute, cat-like appearance.
Their round black noses and shiny black eyes added to their intelligent and playful demeanor.
The most captivating feature, however, was the green mane-like fur around their necks, shaped like leaves, making them look like well-behaved children wearing triangular scarves.
Naoki nodded slightly and asked Gorebyss to stay back while he himself stepped forward, holding the few grass dumplings in his hand.
The rustling of his movements immediately caught the attention of the three Ride Wooloo.
Far from being afraid, their shiny, dark eyes reflected curiosity.
Naoki gently tossed one of the dumplings that could increase their favor towards him.
The dumpling landed right in front of one of the Ride Wooloo.
The Pokemon lowered its head to inspect it for a moment before popping the treat into its mouth.
The next second, a delighted expression appeared on its face.
"Meeeh!" So delicious!
Naoki quickly offered the other two Ride Wooloo the remaining grass dumplings, which they happily gobbled up.
Only after they had finished eating did the Ride Wooloo lift their heads, their eyes filled with anticipation as they looked at the human before them.
Naoki offered a warm smile and pulled out two Poke Balls from his pocket. "Come with me! This way, you'll get to eat these treats every day!"
As soon as he finished speaking, two of the Ride Wooloo scampered over to him, meekly raising their heads and bleating.
Ride Wooloo: ヽ(▽)
ノ
Naoki: "......" This was almost too easy.
Now he understood why Ride Wooloo were among the first Pokemon to live alongside humans.
Perhaps, in ancient times, the early inhabitants accidentally fed them extra grass, and the Ride Wooloo realized that being with humans meant a steady supply of food, leading them to start living together.
Not only was Naoki surprised, but so were the two Ride Wooloo's companions.
One of them stared blankly at the other two, who had so easily been swayed by a little food, and it took a while for it to recover from the shock.
The expression on its face seemed to ask, "How could you do this?"
At that moment, Naoki turned his attention to the remaining Ride Wooloo.
Sensing his gaze, the Ride Wooloo immediately bristled with determination.
Its hoof tapped lightly on the ground.
"Meeeh!"
Human trainer, if you want to capture me, show me your strength!
Naoki was taken aback by its reaction.
He tentatively asked, "Do you want to have a Pokemon battle with me?"
"Meeeh!" The Ride Wooloo nodded earnestly.
Naoki: "......"
But he wasn't a trainer! Just then, the Ride Wooloo's gaze shifted to behind Naoki.
Following its line of sight, Naoki saw Gorebyss standing by his side, seemingly having quietly moved there without him noticing.
Yosuke, who was standing behind them, noticed the Ride Wooloo's behavior and said to Naoki, "It wants to battle you!"
In situations like this, a trainer must battle the Pokemon. Only by winning can you earn its respect and have it willingly enter a Poke Ball, accepting you as its trainer.
Naoki was well aware of this, but...
He turned around, lowered his voice, and whispered to Gorebyss, "Can you fight?"
Gorebyss immediately nodded with enthusiasm. "Gorebyss!" Of course! Watch as I take down this Ride Wooloo with a single move!
Naoki: "Damn it!" Seeing Gorebyss' confident stance, Naoki felt that one full-force tackle might be enough to knock the Ride Wooloo out for good.
He quickly added, "Don't use your full strength. Hold back a little!"
"Gore?" Gorebyss blinked, thought for a moment, and seemed to understand what Naoki meant.
It proudly patted its chest with its large claw. "Gorebyss!" Leave it to me!
After transforming into its battle form, it stood tall and proud opposite the Ride Wooloo.
