Chapter 41: Cultivation in Progress
Chapter 41: Cultivation in Progress
The Root Organization moved quickly. Soon after Mu Yue's report, a ninja from the organization quietly arrived in his yard the next morning.
"This is Danzo's order," the Root ninja said, handing Mu Yue two scrolls.
Mu Yue nodded and took the scrolls.
He first opened the scroll containing his new mission.
As usual, the Root ninja didn't linger and left immediately after delivering the message.
Once he sensed the ninja's presence fading away, Mu Yue went inside to examine the contents of the scrolls.
The first scroll contained the typical PUA content, praising Mu Yue for his excellent work and living up to the organization's expectations, along with encouragements to continue striving for improvement.
Mu Yue focused his attention on the latter part of the scroll.
Danzo responded to Mu Yue's previous question about recruiting Asuma into the Root Organization. The answer was a simple "no."
Danzo instructed Mu Yue to focus on teaching Asuma and becoming a significant mentor to him. There was no need for any additional actions, and he was especially reminded not to expose any abnormalities.
This response aligned with Mu Yue's expectations.
Recruiting Asuma into the Root Organization would be like inviting Danzo to take the Hokage's seat, which was out of the question.
While Danzo's Root Organization possessed considerable strength, its power largely came from absorbing resources from the Anbu. For the true Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, manipulating the Root was child's play.
Additionally, the scroll instructed Mu Yue to keep a close eye on the Uchiha students, assess their loyalty to Konoha, and identify any potential geniuses who could be absorbed by the Root.
The other scroll contained several high-level secret medicines, a reward for Mu Yue's outstanding completion of his previous tasks.
Mu Yue carefully stored away the scroll containing the secret medicines and burned the other one.
"In this world, even a peaceful life has become a luxury..." Mu Yue murmured as he swept the ashes into a trash bin, his expression indifferent as he gazed out into the yard.
The presence of a fully armed ninja in his yard first thing in the morning made him uncomfortable.
However, Mu Yue had no choice but to comply for the time being.
He had considered revealing his true strength to Sarutobi while teaching Asuma, hoping that the Hokage would recognize his value and offer him a position, thereby solving his curse mark issue.
But he quickly dismissed the idea.
While he could impress Sarutobi Hiruzen and earn a position through his abilities, openly exposing his strength was not an option.
Sarutobi was unaware of his true capabilities and the ninjutsu he had mastered. As long as he didn't reveal the Water Disruption Wave technique, he could maintain his cover.
However, the situation with Danzo was different. The original owner of Mu Yue's body had been cultivated by Danzo, and he knew too much sensitive information.
If he were to expose his strength, Danzo might very well inform Sarutobi and have him treated as a spy.
Mu Yue believed there were only three scenarios in which revealing his strength would be beneficial. The first was if Danzo intended to use him as expendable material. In that case, exposing his strength would be a way to find an opportunity to escape.
The second scenario was to wait until his strength reached the level of the Sannin. With power comparable to that of the legendary three, he could intervene during the war and become a savior for Konoha in their time of need.
Even if the source of his strength remained a mystery, Mu Yue would be hailed as a hero rather than a spy.
The third scenario involved possessing the power to overthrow Konoha. At that point, whether he exposed his strength or not would be irrelevant.
Mu Yue adjusted his expression and headed to the Ninja Academy, entering the office and the classroom with a gentle smile.
Without sufficient strength, he would continue to be the gentle and warm-hearted teacher that everyone adored.
...
On Saturday, Obito arrived early at the training ground to begin his cultivation.
He held a palm-sized ice cube in his hand and channeled chakra into it, attempting to change its nature.
After about ten seconds, the ice cube vanished, leaving only a puddle of water on the ground as evidence of its existence.
Mu Yue, who was standing nearby, nodded in approval.
After all, he never imagined that he would unlock the 'Chef' skill, let alone that this lifestyle skill would be useful for nature transformation training.
The credit for his rapid progress to this level goes largely to the spicy tofu dish.
"You've initially grasped the knack for nature transformation. From now on, you'll focus on increasing your maximum output." Mu Yue said as he took out a block of ice the size of a human head from the wooden bucket and placed it on the ground.
"Your next goal is to melt this block of ice within ten seconds." Mu Yue announced, marking the progression to the next phase of training.
"Huh? Isn't this too big?" Obito scratched his head as he looked at the oversized ice block, a little daunted by the sudden increase in difficulty.
"This phase is about pushing the limits of instantaneous nature transformation. Don't worry about chakra consumption; just go all out. Take a break when you're tired, and continue when you're rested," instructed Mu Yue.
This stage required time and perseverance. Unless one had Naruto's vitality and abundant chakra, allowing for the reckless creation of numerous shadow clones to gain experience, progress would be gradual.
While Obito couldn't compare to Naruto's exceptional talent, he was still doing well compared to an average person, thanks to Mu Yue's skill teachings and the special food buffs.
As noon approached, Mu Yue called for a break from their training.
"Eating the same dish every day can get monotonous, so today we're having a hot pot instead." Mu Yue announced with a smile.
Although the skill buffs made the single-dish meals enjoyable, Mu Yue aimed for an even higher level of trust, so he wanted to go the extra mile.
"Great! Finally, I won't have to eat that super spicy tofu again!" Obito exclaimed excitedly, jumping up with enthusiasm.
It wasn't that he disliked the spicy tofu, but eating it every day made trips to the bathroom a painful experience.
"I've only prepared the broth. As for the ingredients, it depends on what you find." Mu Yue added.
"I want to eat fish!" Obito said as he took out a kunai and dashed towards the river, eager to catch some fish.
"I'll help you!" Might Guy, always enthusiastic, heard Obito's request and sprinted a hundred meters before diving into the water, creating a huge splash.
Obito, who was looking for an opportunity to spear some fish, was drenched by the massive wave.
"Kai!" Obito's fist clenched in frustration.
The next moment, Might Guy surfaced, holding two fish and looking at Obito with a confused expression. "Did you call me, Obito?"
"Yeah, I just wanted to say that you're a true friend, Kai. You never fail to deliver," Obito praised, his face lighting up as he eyed the fresh fish in Might Guy's hands.
Meanwhile, Itachi gathered some wild vegetables and mushrooms from the forest.
The three of them joined forces to hunt a wild boar.
Might Guy drew its attention, Itachi took the lead, and Obito assisted, and together, they successfully took down the boar.
Mu Yue, on the other hand, prepared the broth and processed the ingredients they brought.
He created multiple shadow clones to divide the tasks and quickly prepare the food.
The wild boar and fish required more preparation, while the wild vegetables and mushrooms simply needed to be washed, cut in half, and added to the pot.
Instead of building a fire, they utilized Obito's hand, placing it under the pot as a human heater, which also served as a form of training.
In this way, the master and his three disciples enjoyed a hearty lunch, prepared with locally sourced ingredients from the forest.
Although the meal lacked complexity and the ingredients were simple, it wasn't as delicious as Mu Yue's direct culinary creations. Nonetheless, Itachi enjoyed it immensely, feeling a sense of warmth and camaraderie.
This feeling of warmth was something he rarely experienced, having lost both his parents at a young age.
[Disciple Uchiha Itachi's trust level increased. Current trust level: 3]
Mu Yue smiled as he picked up a piece of fish from the pot and ate it.
