Chapter 409: Kuro Commodore Lo's Rage
Chapter 409: Kuro Commodore Lo's Rage
These words made both Lida and Klah's faces darken.
"I'm hungry. Let's go eat something!"
Lida tried to make an excuse to escape.
Bang!
Just then, the sliding door slammed shut.
Kuro released his grip and glared, his expression terrifyingly grim. "No one's leaving."
He swept his gaze across the group before fixing on Donald. "Explain. Why did you leak this? And why did the newspaper come out?"
"Huh?"
Donald looked genuinely stunned. "Kuro Commodore, you didn't know?"
Know what, exactly?!
Kuro bit back the urge to retort. "What the hell is going on?! Klah!"
He glared at Klah, his eyes promising to flay him alive.
Klah shivered under the gaze. "It's not like that! I was going to explain today, but you didn't give me a chance!"
He hurried forward, pulling out the newspaper collection from his chest and spreading them on Kuro's table. Stepping back, he wiped sweat from his forehead. "Kuro Mr., we found out about this too late."
There, clearly displayed, were photos of him killing Lucius and the Vinsmoke Four from North Blue.
Kuro performed a tactical back-tilt, his eyes stinging as if stabbed. For a moment, he couldn't bear to look.
Especially the headline – utterly unbearable.
"Navy Hero Kills Solitary Crimson? Who's the hero?! Who the hell is the hero!"
Kuro raged, stabbing his finger at the newspaper so hard it thudded like a drumbeat, as if he might punch through the table itself!
Then he slumped into his chair like a soulless Xian Yu, staring blankly upward. Suddenly, he straightened.
He pulled out his cigar box, took one, and held it between trembling fingers. "No problem. The Four Kingdom Kings promised me they wouldn't expose this. This must be some reckless war photographer's sneak photograph. Dammit, how did they get such a clear shot!"
"Kuro Mr.", Klah hesitated.
"Kuro Commodore", Donald interjected, puzzled, "this is a joint statement from the Four Kingdom Kings of North Blue!" He pointed. "Why say they wouldn't expose it? This is great publicity – shouldn't they be promoting it?"
Kuro: "......"
His eyes returned to the paper. Sure enough, the words 'Four Kingdom Kings Joint Statement' were printed below.
The cigar spun between his fingers as he refused to give up. "No. As long as the Vinsmoke Family files a complaint, everything will be fine."
At this, Lida glanced at Klah.
Klah licked his lips, sweat pouring down. "Kuro Mr., the Vinsmoke..."
"They already filed a complaint", Donald cut in. "I heard about it. Because of this matter, Admiral Akainu and the Five Elders had a huge fight. No resolution was reached, so Akainu went back to Mariejois."
The office fell silent at his words.
Kuro's finger slowly extended, trembling like an epileptic seizure. His voice was icy. "Lida and Klah stay. Everyone else – get out."
The group quickly obeyed, leaving the office.
With a loud 'bang', the door slammed shut. Immediately, Kuro roared: "I had it all sorted! I had it sorted this week, this month! I thought everything was fine! I was so happy! Why, why did you have to tell me this, aaaaah!!!"
His voice was so loud it echoed outside the office.
"Kuro Mr.", Kas wept, "is this not humiliation? That wretched Lucius, such a grand fuss over him! How can this prove Kuro Mr.'s greatness? He's just an old man!"
"I agree!" Donald nodded solemnly. "Solitary Crimson may be formidable, but few have even heard his name. I traveled as a wanderer through many nations and only occasionally heard whispers. He doesn't deserve to be mentioned alongside legends like Roger, Whitebeard, or Shanks. Kuro Commodore must know this already. Your rage surely stems from this newspaper's excessive hype. Ah, clearly a humble and noble man!"
Is that so?
Sazil instinctively nodded, then shook his head.
Something felt off, but he couldn't place it.
"You're all lying to me! Even the Kings who promised me! And you too! Why didn't you tell me sooner!" Kuro bellowed.
"Kuro Mr., I wanted to tell you earlier", Klah spoke rapidly, "but seeing your good mood, I couldn't bear to ruin it. Besides, you ordered us not to inform you of any calls or news."
Kuro rose from his seat, roaring: "Nonsense!! Idiot!! Scum!!!"
"Kuro Mr., isn't that a bit—" Klah pushed his glasses up, hesitating.
"I'm furious!!" Kuro slammed his cigar onto the table, leaning against the wall gasping. "I always ask you for plans, but you're quick to mess up! This is huge! You didn't even try to help me?! All you do is eat!"
He glared at Lida.
"Just wander around town aimlessly!"
He turned his glare to Klah.
"Where are your solutions?! Do you know what Lucius represents?! Solitary Crimson! Do you know Headquarters' situation now?! We're in transition! I might get promoted directly to New World!"
He pounded his chest. "I didn't come to West Blue from Hebei Province for nothing! It was for my ambition, my lifelong dream! Not to play politics for Headquarters!"
He gasped for breath, trembling as he sat back down. "I'll rebel against those Kings! Cowards! Why dare they ignore my threats!"
"Maybe there was a misunderstanding", Klah ventured.
"I'll fly straight to North Blue and smash their islands to pieces, believe me!" Kuro roared.
"Ha ha..."
After speaking, Kuro panted, his anger slowly cooling.
He tremblingly picked up the cigar, stuck it in his mouth, and lit it with several flicks of the lighter.
"Hmph."
Leaning back, he exhaled a plume of smoke, silent for a long moment.
After his outburst, his rage finally eased.
Of course, he wouldn't actually destroy anything – that was just anger talking. If he really went smashing islands over this, he'd be the madman.
But the problem still needed solving.
"Give me a plan", Kuro said to the two. "I'm begging you, Young Master and Miss. How can I minimize the impact of this mess?"
"Chew—"
"Shut up!" Kuro interrupted Lida, glaring. "Say that old cliché again, and you lose lunch today."
"Hmph, I can just eat outside", Lida retorted, unafraid.
"When will you ever give me peace of mind", Kuro sighed helplessly.
