Chapter 409: Hubertian's Unbeatable Proxy
Chapter 409: Hubertian's Unbeatable Proxy
Without interfering, the Great Lover Poet let Warden Selena leave by herself.
It seemed that her mood had improved significantly, and without being too affected by the Fallen Land of Gentle Indulgence, her figure soon disappeared from view.
The Great Lover Poet then turned to the three clerics.
She walked over to them and entered their dreams one by one, quickly waking them up shortly after.
The three clerics looked shaken and ashamed, and they bowed to the Great Lover Poet to apologize.
"There is a time to learn and a time to specialize. All you need to do is remember this valuable experience and understand your weaknesses. There is no need for self-blame."
The Great Lover Poet waved her hand dismissively.
"Thank you, your Highness."
Cleric Batian bowed respectfully once more.
The Great Lover Poet then looked at Hubertian, who was still deeply immersed in her dream and showed no signs of waking up anytime soon.
Although Lanchi could have easily woken Hubertian up, she decided to let her rest a little longer since there was no immediate danger to her life.
After all, she had been through a lot ever since her father's disappearance.
"Even though reality may seem cruel to you, I will try my best to make it a little more beautiful."
The Great Lover Poet murmured to herself as she stood by Hubertian's side and closed her eyes.
...
As the sun set, the Kingdom of Horton was bathed in a golden glow as the light filtered through the thin cloud layer, illuminating the slowly moving sightseeing train.
This magical train weaved through the heart of the Kingdom of Horton, connecting the royal capital with the borderlands, and blending culture with nature.
The interior of the carriage, with its wooden panels and intricate carvings, exuded a bright and airy style, a stark contrast to the darker tones of the Northern Continent.
Outside the windows, the scenery unfolded like a painting, with lush green fields, ancient villages dotting the landscape, and the occasional vineyard and time-honored castle.
Inside the train, passengers either quietly admired the view or engaged in soft conversations, enjoying the leisurely journey. The afternoon air was filled with the subtle aroma of coffee and red wine, accompanied by the gentle sound of the train on the tracks, creating a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.
By the window, an ordinary couple sat facing each other across a wooden table, with a young girl sitting by the wife's side.
They seemed like a typical family out for a weekend getaway.
The girl looked a bit drowsy, half-asleep and half-awake, leaning against her mother's side.
"Mama," Hubertian murmured, hugging Ifer티아's arm tightly. She called out her name once but remained silent afterward, refusing to let go even after a long while.
"What's wrong?" Ifer티아 asked softly.
Hubertian shook her head, not uttering a word.
But she didn't let go either.
The feeling of having her mother by her side reminded Hubertian of a gray-haired young lady from her vague dream, who had been equally caring and protective.
She had shielded her from assassins and tucked her in on cold nights.
However, the nightmare had been bizarre and terrifying, as her father had gone missing.
How could her father, whom she believed to be invincible and incapable of defeat, suddenly vanish into thin air? Dreams were indeed absurd.
"Father, can you lose?"
Hubertian lifted her gaze, her eyes fixed on the figure sitting by the window across from her.
"No," Duke Migaia replied without looking up from his book, his voice filled with certainty.
The sight of Duke Migaia's reassuring black-haired figure reminded Hubertian of someone from her dream, someone who had eased her anxiety and prevented the dream from becoming a complete nightmare.
"Hubertian."
As her thoughts lingered, a voice suddenly interrupted her train of thought.
Hubertian followed the direction of the voice and noticed a black-haired, green-eyed young man sitting on the other side of the aisle, separated from her by the walkway.
She realized that she hadn't noticed this passenger before.
And he was staring right at her.
Hubertian met his gaze.
"Yes?" she asked.
"Hubertian, it's time to wake up," the young man said gently, like a mother coaxing a child to rise early in the morning, his voice laced with a hint of reluctance.
"Who are you?" Hubertian asked, confused.
"I'm your companion," he replied.
"What do you mean by waking up?" Hubertian asked, her eyes clouded with confusion. Something about this conversation with the black-haired, green-eyed youth was stirring forgotten memories, pulling them to the surface despite her efforts to suppress them.
"It means that you and I will be leaving this dream world together," he explained patiently.
"Huh?" Hubertian was taken aback.
"No, just let me look a little longer... just a little longer, please," she pleaded, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes. Like a child reluctant to get out of bed, she wanted to linger in this moment for just a moment longer.
"Hmm..." Lanchi sighed, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. He hadn't anticipated that Hubertian would become so deeply entangled in the spell of the Fallen Land of Gentle Indulgence.
If he could, he would have preferred for her to have pleasant dreams, rather than the nightmares that often disturbed her sleep.
However, he couldn't afford to leave her unattended in the midst of this dangerous magic, which was inherently designed to kill.
"Hubertian, sometimes what seems like a brief hesitation can lead to indefinite procrastination, until eventually, we give up altogether," the black-haired, green-eyed youth said slowly, seemingly unbothered by Hubertian's reluctance and even appearing to understand her feelings. "But if we don't set out now, we will never embark on our journey. So trust me, let's go."
His voice was calm and steady as he gazed at Hubertian.
It seemed as though he was prepared to embark on a magical journey with her, or perhaps this was a promise they had made long ago.
At that moment, the sky outside the train window was transforming, the sunset sky turning a golden pink, reminiscent of a dazzling dawn.
Hubertian stared at the young man and the dawn light behind him, transfixed.
The sweet world around her slowly melted away, and her heartbeat echoed in the sky, repeating endlessly, guiding her through the dream from which she couldn't wake.
Listening to the clear sound of her own heartbeat, Hubertian opened her eyes.
She found herself back in the Minus Fourth Floor of Helrom Prison.
Before her stood the familiar figure with black hair and green eyes, smiling at her as he had in her dream.
"Welcome back," the Great Lover Poet greeted her as he always did.
"Mhm, thank you for always finding me," Hubertian said sincerely, nodding with a slight smile on her lips.
The Great Lover Poet paused, a little taken aback. In his memory, Hubertian rarely smiled, and the smile she wore now was slightly different from her usual ones.
"By the way, where's the Warden?" Hubertian asked, looking around and then at her bracelet curiously.
She noticed that all three Resurrection Clerics had already awakened.
Considering the amount of time that must have passed since they arrived on the Minus Fourth Floor, it was unusual that the Warden hadn't shown up yet. However, the information on her bracelet indicated that she had been granted passage by the Warden.
What had happened while she was dreaming?
"The Warden is a good person. She gave us a top rating, so there's no need to worry," the Great Lover Poet said with a proud smile.
"Now, we can just focus on visiting the Great Demon on this floor. The Great Demon here is the Guardian of Safety, Antanas," he explained.
"Huh?" Hubertian furrowed her brows, confused.
She had no idea what had transpired on this floor while she was lost in her pleasant dream. It seemed that Lanchi had taken care of everything while she was enjoying herself. She even began to suspect that she might be the protagonist of a novel, and Lanchi was her unbeatable proxy.
