Chapter 409: How to Pack and Take a Dementor Away
Chapter 409: How to Pack and Take a Dementor Away
"Patrol duty!"
"No slacking off!"
"Don’t go down there, you’ll get us in trouble."
The whistling wind blew into Ivan’s ears, and with the Dementors pushing and shoving, Ivan had no choice but to temporarily abandon his search for the target and follow the group of Dementors as they patrolled above the castle.
During the patrol, Ivan didn’t remain idle. He tried to communicate with these evil creatures, gathering some intelligence.
After some time, Ivan gained a deeper understanding of the Dementors.
These monsters were not as chaotic as he had initially imagined. They could communicate with each other, cooperate against enemies, and even discuss tactics.
Their intelligence, however, was roughly equivalent to that of a young child, and their thoughts were often muddled, focused on causing trouble. Occasionally, they would complain about the inhumane treatment by the Ministry of Magic.
Compared to patrolling Hogwarts, they missed their life in Azkaban more.
There, they had plenty of food. Apart from not being able to execute prisoners and drain their souls at will, Azkaban was almost like a paradise for them.
This stark contrast in their living conditions made them even more resentful of the Ministry of Magic. The Dementors had not had a satisfying meal for months, and they were all on edge. The last time they had tried to break into the school for a feast, they were driven back in disgrace.
Listening to the Dementors’ complaints, Ivan couldn’t help but feel that they were, in a way, simple-minded creatures, easily satisfied.
However, their thoughts were far too evil for Wizards or Muggles, bringing only pain and taking away joy.
This fundamental conflict could not be reconciled, and the Ministry of Magic’s decision to have them guard the prison was, in a sense, the Dementors’ only way out.
After chatting with the Dementors for a while, Ivan took advantage of the opportunity to patrol the castle separately, allowing him to wander around the vicinity of Hogwarts on his own.
After circling around, Ivan finally found a lone Dementor guarding an entrance in the forest path outside the Hogwarts Castle. He approached it, pretending to be on patrol.
Ivan’s approach immediately caught the attention of the Dementor. Due to the Ministry of Magic’s orders, all Dementors had to remain at their posts or patrol the sky. A Dementor like Ivan, who was wandering around, stood out.
“I’ve found Sirius Black’s trail,” Ivan said before the Dementor could ask, mimicking the Dementors’ disjointed and broken speech.
The Dementor in front of him, upon hearing Ivan’s words, did not show any suspicion but eagerly floated to Ivan’s side. It understood very well what a prisoner meant.
That meant a delicious meal, especially for a notorious criminal like Sirius Black. Even if they drained his soul, they would not face punishment from the Ministry of Magic.
“Wait here!” Ivan carefully looked around to ensure no one was nearby, then reached into his Cloak with his withered, decaying hand and pulled out a large sack.
Dementors lack vision but use a special sense to perceive Ivan’s actions and the surroundings. It felt strange, wondering if Black was inside the sack.
The Dementor curiously leaned its head toward the sack’s opening, only to feel the opening getting closer and closer.
With a swift swing of the sack, Ivan quickly enveloped the somewhat dazed Dementor inside, muttering in frustration.
"This is too easy."
Do Dementors have no wariness towards their own kind?
Ivan thought it was very likely. After all, these simple creatures seemed to only have conflicts when there was an uneven distribution of the Emotions they were feeding on. Otherwise, they were quite content to move in groups.
Since he had already caught a Dementor, Ivan didn’t think about it further and prepared to fly back to the castle to find a place to transform back to his original form.
At that moment, faint sounds of conversation drifted over from a distance.
Ivan frowned. Who would be here at this time?
Ivan hid the sack containing the Dementor in his empty Cloak and created more black mist to cover any abnormalities, pretending to be the Dementor that had been guarding the corridor, waiting for the other to pass.
"Hmm, isn’t that Dolores Umbridge? What is she doing here?" Ivan directed his gaze and saw Professor Mcgonagall walking out from a corner, accompanied by a short, plump middle-aged witch wearing a pink floral dress.
Ivan immediately recognized the middle-aged witch, who had been acting coy. This was Dolores Umbridge, whom he had met two years ago.
Professor Mcgonagall, with a stern face, was seriously explaining to Umbridge the incident a few days ago when the Dementors had collectively rebelled, entered the Quidditch pitch, and attacked the students.
"You’re saying those Dementors violated the Ministry of Magic’s regulations and forcibly entered the school?" Dolores Umbridge, as the Ministry’s Special Investigator, raised her voice, feigning surprise, then quickly shook her head firmly and continued.
"Absolutely not! These Dementors are employed by the Ministry of Magic. Without an order, they would never dare to enter the castle, let alone attack the students there!"
"Is that so?" Professor Mcgonagall raised an eyebrow and reminded her. "All the students at Hogwarts can testify to this. I believe the Ministry of Magic should have already received letters from the parents of the students!"
Umbridge’s face immediately turned quite unpleasant.
In recent days, an average of over a hundred Howlers were being sent to various departments of the Ministry of Magic every day, severely disrupting their daily operations!
The Ministry even had to assign dedicated personnel to handle the daily influx of letters, separating the Howlers and using specialized magic to destroy them.
Although she cursed the Dementors in her heart, Umbridge was not about to admit to this serious incident caused by the Ministry’s mistake.
Umbridge preferred an alternative explanation.
For example, the Dementors that had accidentally entered the Quidditch pitch might have discovered Sirius Black’s trail and, in the heat of the chase, unintentionally alarmed the students, leading to a misunderstanding and conflict!
However, Mcgonagall was not about to be fooled so easily and was not prepared to align her narrative with Umbridge’s. Instead, she demanded that the Ministry remove all the Dementors from the castle.
After the last rebellion, Mcgonagall no longer had any faith in the safety of the Dementors. If it happened once, it could happen again!
This would seriously affect the safety of the many students within the castle.
