Chapter 409: Dayu War God, Mortal World Female Sword Immortal (Part 1)
Chapter 409: Dayu War God, Mortal World Female Sword Immortal (Part 1)
Seeing Li Hao's resolute attitude, Primordial Ancestor and the others tried to persuade him a few times but to no avail, and they eventually left.
"Is there really no other way?"
"This Venerated Hao is too heartless. Does he really want to watch us all die a miserable death?"
"Stop talking about him. We treat all things as straw dogs, and he treats us the same. This is just karma."
Among the saints, some felt pessimistic and could already see the outcome for the All Heavens Holy Land.
Although the other sages were angry with Li Hao, they knew deep down that they had brought this upon themselves. They were just desperate in the face of life and death, and were angry that Li Hao refused to forgive them.
Under the oppressive and gloomy atmosphere, the Sword Saint remained silent for a while before slowly speaking:
"Although I'm not close to Hao Tian, my senior brother has spoken of him. He is a man of deep emotions and principles, repaying kindness and enmity alike. You have all Comprehended his Dao Scripture, which emphasizes a natural Dao Art and a free mindset. In this situation, we have only ourselves to blame, but if we want to save ourselves, there might be one more way."
"What way?"
Someone quickly asked.
Primordial Ancestor and the god king, among others, also looked at the Sword Saint.
The Sword Saint's mind conjured up the image of his young disciple's Reincarnation body, his eyes flickering as he said, "He built the Holy Land to protect his loved ones. We should go to his loved ones and ask them to plead on our behalf; it might be more effective than us going to him directly."
Continuing, he added, "Before that, we need to show him that we are willing to make amends. We need to seal the gap to prevent more ancient demons from invading."
"Make amends? Are we all supposed to follow his lead now?"
A sage's face turned grim, finding the idea unbelievable.
Primordial Ancestor and the god king exchanged glances and felt that the Sword Saint's suggestion was reasonable.
"What's wrong with following his lead? If you don't want to, you don't have to, but don't ask for his help. Do you not understand the situation we're in?"
"That's right. When you're under someone else's roof, you have to bow your head. The Arrays are ineffective. If you can create an Array that can hide from the ancient demons' probing, then go ahead."
"Right now, we can only follow what the Sword Saint suggests. However, sealing the gap is too dangerous. If the Immortal Gate suddenly shatters..."
Many sages agreed with the Sword Saint's idea. Given the current situation, they had no choice but to bow their heads, though they couldn't help but worry about the dangers of sealing the gap.
"To avoid sacrificing everyone, we should take turns sealing the gap. If something happens during someone's turn, it's just their fate."
Primordial Ancestor spoke up, effectively finalizing the decision.
Although some sages had grievances and wanted to try other methods, they could only accept the decision helplessly.
After a short while, they discussed and divided themselves into three groups based on their strength and numbers: one led by Primordial Ancestor, one led by the god king, and one led by many of the old Three Calamities Sages.
They would take turns defending the Ancient Hall, rotating every three days.
After the discussion, the sages followed Primordial Ancestor and the god king to the Ancient Hall.
"These past few days, who knows how many ancient demons have been released. These ancient demons are cunning. There are likely to be guards at the gap."
Primordial Ancestor and the others cautiously approached the Ancient Hall.
Upon entering, they immediately sensed the air filled with malevolent thoughts that made their emotions restless.
They knew their guess was correct; ancient demons were indeed lurking here.
When they reached the crack, they saw four ancient demons guarding the Immortal Gate in the starry sky.
As they noticed the ancient demons, the ancient demons also noticed them and immediately let out threatening growls.
"Indeed..."
Primordial Ancestor and the others' faces darkened. If they hadn't anticipated this and come together, a single group of sages defending the area would likely have paid a heavy price.
"Attack!"
The god king acted decisively, leading the charge with his sword.
Soon, a fierce battle erupted in the Ancient Hall.
The four ancient demons, working together, put immense pressure on the sages, but with their combined strength and the sages outnumbering them by more than twenty to one, they quickly managed to kill the ancient demons.
However, over twenty sages were injured, their Soul Spirits weakened and in need of rest.
"God king, according to the previous Fate Art decision, you will defend first. I'll take over in three days."
Primordial Ancestor said to the god king.
The god king nodded, wiping the ancient demon blood from his sword, and then crouched down to examine the ancient demon corpses.
"The ancient demons are on par with Dragon Saints in strength, so their bodies should be full of treasures. Perhaps we can refine them into weapons or medicinal elixirs. Earlier, the Heavenly Venerated Hao took the ancient demon corpses, likely because they have great uses. Those of you who are skilled in refining and alchemy, come and see if there’s anything worth extracting."
The God King called out.
Hearing this, several Sages stepped forward. They were all skilled in refining and alchemy and quickly picked out the ancient demon’s claw and skull meat.
The Primordial Ancestor glanced over and shook his head slightly. "Don't waste your efforts. I already investigated earlier. Although the ancient demons are dead, their flesh contains a special soul-devouring power that would interfere with refining and alchemy. It’s impossible to refine anything from them."
Refining and alchemy both require the use of Divine Sense to control the process. During this, the ancient demon’s flesh would continuously devour souls, and by the time the refining was complete, the refiner might already be severely injured, and there’s no guarantee of success.
Sure enough, upon hearing his words, the Sages skilled in refining and alchemy probed the ancient demon’s flesh and their faces changed. They all shook their heads.
"Primordial Ancestor is right. It’s indeed impossible to refine anything from it."
The God King raised an eyebrow and glanced at his old rival. As expected, his opponent always knew things first but kept them to himself.
"Why did the Heavenly Venerated Hao take their corpses?"
The God King frowned and asked.
The Primordial Ancestor’s eyes flickered. He also wanted to ask Li Hao this, but he knew it must involve Li Hao’s secrets. Asking would only invite trouble.
Li Hao spent twelve years on the ancient path; he couldn’t possibly be unaware of the peculiar nature of the ancient demons’ physical bodies.
"Perhaps he has some special method, or maybe the Immortal Deity veteran he mentioned has a way."
The Primordial Ancestor shook his head, offering the only explanation he could think of.
"Since he can make use of these ancient demon corpses, what if we give them to him? Would that count as a gesture of goodwill and compensation?"
Suddenly, one of the Sages suggested.
Hearing this, the Primordial Ancestor was slightly taken aback but nodded. "That’s a good idea. Tianyu, take these four ancient demon corpses and give them to Hao Tian later. Also, tell them about our plan to seal the gap, showing them our sincerity!"
Xiao Tianyu’s eyes flickered, and he nodded. "Understood."
"I’ll go too."
Another Sage immediately said.
"I’ll accompany Sage Tianyu to ensure he doesn’t encounter any other ancient demons along the way." Another Sage quickly added.
Soon, seven or eight people indicated they would go with Xiao Tianyu.
The Primordial Ancestor saw this and didn’t stop them, though he was clear about their true intentions.
Fearing Xiao Tianyu might encounter ancient demons was just an excuse. Now that only Li Hao had a way to survive, everyone wanted to improve their image and gain his favor.
The God King sat on the steps, a slight sneer on his lips. Ever since he was sealed, he had never looked up to these Sages.
"Except for the Sages who will stay to defend the God King, the rest of you, follow me to the Mortal World to visit the Divine General Manor."
The Primordial Ancestor said, turning to the Mo Family Supreme Sage. "Is the Jiang Family Ancestor Saint still in seclusion? We should bring him out."
The Mo Family Supreme Sage immediately understood the Primordial Ancestor’s thoughts and nodded. "I’ve already informed him. He agreed to try his best, but he can’t guarantee success. Additionally, he demands a chance to avenge himself by challenging Saint Jiao."
Hearing this, one of the Sages in the crowd’s face changed. Seeing the looks from the other Sages, he realized he had no choice.
Now that the Jiang Family descendant was close to the Heavenly Venerated Hao, seeking revenge was something he had anticipated.
"If the other Sages don’t interfere, I can give him a fair discussion."
Saint Jiao said in a low voice.
Seeing his agreement, the Mo Family Supreme Sage nodded. If the other party refused, he would have to take action himself.
"Earlier, in the Land of Sages, the Li Family Ancestor was also in distress. I’ve had them rescued and will send them down to the mortal realm as well."
The Primordial Ancestor said, calling another disciple to carry out the task.
Hearing this, the God King glanced at him.
His opponent had already taken this step.
…
…
In the Mortal World, the Great Yu Divine Dynasty.
In the Imperial City, within the Imperial Palace.
A crimson dragon-scale carpet lined the ground, with Civil and Military Officials lined up on both sides. Accompanied by the dragging of chains, a battle chariot entered the Imperial Palace through the Heavenly Gate.
On the battle chariot, chains entwined around a massive, blood-soaked head.
The head was about seven to eight meters in diameter, its flesh mangled and skull shattered, with several-meter-long fangs protruding, sending chills down the spine.
In front of the battle chariot, a young General, clad in a magnificent battle robe and armor with a "Ping" character on his chest, dismounted his horse. The long feathers on his helmet fluttered in the wind, making him look exceptionally heroic as he walked into the grand hall of the Imperial Palace.
As he stepped in, the whispers within the entire Imperial Palace seemed to vanish, and all eyes focused on the handsome young man with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes.
The young man removed his bloodstained helmet, cradled it at his waist, and walked steadily toward the Dragon Throne at the end of the carpet, where the elderly emperor sat.
"Your subject greets Your Majesty."
Upon reaching the front of the Civil and Military Officials, just before the steps, the young man stopped, nodded slightly, and did not kneel.
The old man on the Dragon Throne, however, showed no sign of displeasure. Instead, he smiled and said, "Well done, well done. You have endured much hardship on this journey. My dear officials, let us congratulate General Li on his return from slaying the demon!"
At his words, the spirits of the officials were lifted, and they all cheered in unison.
"Reward him!"
After the cheers subsided, Emperor Yu, with a full smile, said, "General Li has defended our Dayu for a hundred years, his achievements spanning a thousand autumns. He is to be rewarded with two Yu Dragon Tokens, a city, a million gold pieces, and a hundred thousand able slaves!"
The officials cheered once more.
However, the young man at the steps remained calm, showing no change in expression.
Seeing his expression, Emperor Yu's eyes revealed a hint of helplessness. "My dear General, you must be tired from your journey. If you have any matters to report, please do so. If not, go and rest. I grant you a six-month leave to recuperate at the Divine General Manor. Besides slaying demons, you should also focus on expanding your lineage. Do not waste the bloodline you have."
The young man frowned slightly, glanced at Emperor Yu, and, seeing the helplessness in his eyes, his face darkened a bit before he nodded.
"Your subject understands."
With that, he bowed slightly and turned to leave.
Though his actions were somewhat disrespectful, the officials were already used to it. Given his status, it was not considered a significant offense.
"General Li is truly remarkable. That Enlightenment Realm Demon King, they say, came from the depths of the Great Wasteland Sky, breaking through three of our border cities, unbeatable by anyone. Yet, with one move, General Li slew it."
"Indeed. General Li is a blessing bestowed upon us by the heavens. He has already been promoted to the Divine Rank and holds the position of Grand Marshal of the Imperial Army. Though his recent feat is great, there is nothing left to promote him to. The rewards of gold and jewels are the best we can offer. The treasures in the royal treasury probably pale in comparison to those accumulated by the Li Family over the years."
"General Li has been at the Divine Rank for years, yet he still diligently accumulates merit. Could it be that he aspires to become the Heavenly General of Dayu?"
As the young man left, the whispers in the Imperial Court resumed.
Emperor Yu watched the young man's retreating back, a deep sigh escaping his heart. He knew the look in the young man's eyes as he left, knew what reward he desired. But that reward was unique, and he could not grant it.
At this thought, the image of a carefree young man flashed through his mind.
A hundred years had passed swiftly.
In the Land of Sages, where only a few decades had gone by, he wondered how the other was faring.
Outside the Imperial Palace.
The young man left the Imperial Court and immediately rode his horse away from the grand hall. Among all the officials, only he was allowed to ride within the Imperial Capital, a privilege not even the Crown Prince possessed.
Riding out of the Imperial Palace, he came to the heart of the Imperial City. This time, after slaying the demon, he had only led his personal guard.
Instead of reuniting with his guard and returning to Qingzhou, he rode toward a famous mountain just outside the Imperial City.
A hundred years ago, this mountain had been desolate. Later, it was cleaved by a single sword strike and cleared, as a female Sword Immortal chose to reside there and build her dao hall.
Though the mountain was not high, it was made sacred by the presence of a sage. Martial Artists from all over came to visit, but they were all turned away.
The dao hall housed only a few daoists, who served as the female Sword Immortal's attendants, maintaining the hall and tending to the medicinal fields she had cultivated.
"General Li, this is the abode of the Immortal Lady. You must not enter without permission."
At the foot of the mountain, the young man was stopped at the base of the thousands of steps leading up the mountain by two women dressed in simple green robes and carrying swords.
A hint of displeasure flickered across the young man's face. Even the Imperial Palace was open to him, and there was no place in the world he couldn't enter.
However, thinking of the figure on the mountain, he held back his anger, dismounted from his warhorse, and said, "Go inform Immortal Ren that Li Pingan has come to pay a visit!"
The two women, hearing this, dared not say anything more. One of them quickly ascended the mountain to deliver the message.
This young man, whose power was second only to Emperor Yu in the entire Great Yu Divine Dynasty, stood quietly at the foot of the steps. The women beside him felt as if they couldn't even breathe loudly.
Their immortal could refuse to see the emperor or anyone else, and no one would dare to do anything about it, for she possessed the strength of a Supreme Sage. But they didn't dare to be disrespectful to this General, whose status was so exalted.
