Chapter 409: Beloved Monster
Chapter 409: Beloved Monster
Earth Ascends!
The white giant landed, kicking up a cloud of dust as its towering form touched the ground.
Elemental Hero Terra Firma
Attack Points: 2500
"He's summoned both of Akaza's signature monsters in one go," Kyosuke mumbled, impressed. "Impressive!"
Midori couldn't help but stare at Judai, superimaging Akaza's silhouette over the young duelist. For a moment, she was lost in her thoughts.
"Is this what you wanted to pass on through dueling, Akaza?" she murmured.
"It's not over yet," Judai declared. "Elemental Hero Terra Firma's effect activates! By tributing 'Elemental Hero Absolute Zero,' I can absorb its Attack and Defense Points!"
Terra Firma Calor!!!
At Judai's command, Absolute Zero transformed into pure energy, merging with Terra Firma. The once-white body of the monster became scorching hot, as if lava was pouring from its form, turning it a blazing iron-red.
Elemental Hero Terra Firma
Attack Points: 2500 → 5000
"Five thousand attack points,"
The Judge acknowledged, as if addressing Akaza's spirit.
"Are you aiming to end this in one blow?"
"Not yet," Judai continued. "At this moment, 'Elemental Hero Absolute Zero' has gained a new ability—
—Absolute Zero!!!
"What?!" The spectators exclaimed in unison.
Even Kaiba was taken aback.
"Has this boy, through the power of the duelist's 'will,' managed to evolve his monster mid-duel?"
While rare, such occurrences were not unheard of. The perfect example was "Ultimate Dragon Knight," a fusion of Yugi and Kaiba's spirits. However, the likelihood of this happening was minuscule, almost non-existent.
It required not only an incredibly strong will from the duelist but also an extraordinary connection with the monster, what many called a "bond."
Only under very specific circumstances, when a duelist and their monster were in perfect harmony, could a monster's autonomous evolution be triggered during a duel.
This was what was known as an imprinted card.
Just like Judai had done, he had imprinted on the 'Elemental Hero Absolute Zero,' Akaza's signature card, awakening its hidden new ability.
For just a fleeting moment, the Judge clearly saw golden sparks in the boy's eyes, burning with an intimidating intensity.
But it was only for that moment, and they soon faded away.
"Heh, I knew I wasn't mistaken," the Judge smiled.
Indeed, an intriguing boy.
"Elemental Hero Absolute Zero's new effect! When this card leaves the field, destroy all monsters your opponent controls!"
"Such a powerful ability?!"
Kyosuke was astonished.
Absolute zero froze everything, as if the temperature on the field had dropped to absolute zero. No conventional creature could survive in such icy conditions. The Judge's "Darkness Armed Dragon," "Flaming Wingman," and "Hellpoets" were all instantly frozen and then shattered into dazzling ice crystals within seconds.
"Interesting... Very interesting, indeed."
The Judge's interest piqued.
"The battle is reaching its climax!" Judai declared. "Terra Firma's attack will be the duel's finale!"
Extreme ice gave way to molten flame. With five thousand attack points, Terra Firma absorbed the erupting lava, forging it into a sword of destruction in his hand!
Even the audience held their breath in anticipation.
Would he win?
"Not bad, not bad at all," the Judge commented. "You've managed to unleash a fraction of your true power. However, it's a pity that it's still not enough."
The Judge remained calm.
"It seems that unless I force you to confront your past, that sleeping soul of yours won't fully awaken."
"What?" Judai frowned.
"DoMA possesses resources spanning the globe. We are aware of everything that has happened in this world, from ancient times to the present."
Judai froze, his mind echoing with that distant voice once more.
"Judai... Judai..."
There it was again, that familiar voice.
His heart raced as his head began to pound. Judai clutched his head, stumbling slightly.
What was this? Something important that he had forgotten.
No, he must not let his opponent control the rhythm of the duel.
"Finish the duel first!" Judai exclaimed. "I summon Elemental Hero Terra Firma! Direct attack!"
As he drew out the blazing blade, he felt his headache intensify.
He stumbled, nearly losing his balance.
However, the command had been successfully transmitted. Terra Firma crossed the icy field, its scorching heat melting away the ice and snow. The Earth Blade slashed forward with a force of five thousand, aiming for the Judge's face.
"I activate a face-down card," the Judge said, flicking his finger.
"Trap Card: Enemy Controller. When an opponent's monster declares an attack, special summon a monster from your hand, and your opponent must attack that monster."
Judai's headache intensified to an unbearable level.
Something was coming, something important to him...
"Special Summon this card and greet your old friend—Yubel," the Judge said calmly as he revealed the card in his hand.
"I summon Yubel!"
Thorny vines shot out from the ground, swirling in the air. Within the vines, the silhouette of a demon took shape, wrapped in massive black bone wings.
Then, in a sudden movement, the bone wings spread wide, and a demon with feminine features slowly lifted its head. Its heterochromatic eyes opened, coldly assessing Judai.
[Yubel: ATK 0]
Even You Xuan was taken aback.
Yubel?!
Could it be that Yubel returned from space and was intercepted by DoMA? Considering their worldwide influence and power, it wouldn't be surprising if they had that capability.
However, upon closer inspection, You Xuan realized that wasn't the case.
This card didn't have a spirit.
It seemed that while Yubel's card was rare, it might not be the only one in existence. The Yubel card that Judai had when he was young was likely special because it housed a sprite with a deep connection to him.
This card, without a sprite, didn't possess any extraordinary attributes. It was just a regular rare monster card, and with the Judge's capabilities, obtaining it wouldn't have been difficult.
Judai's eyes widened as he stared at the monster on the field, his heart suddenly pounding with realization.
Shattered memories seemed to attract each other, piecing themselves together.
It was the first monster he had ever loved, the one that held a special significance, the first sprite he had encountered in his life...
"Due to the effect of Enemy Controller, Terra Firma must attack Yubel," the Judge stated.
"But Yubel's attack is only 0!" Kei exclaimed.
Kaiba frowned. "No, that monster has a special effect."
"Yubel cannot be destroyed by battle, and any battle damage it would take is reduced to 0. Furthermore," the Judge continued calmly, "that amount of damage is reflected back to the opponent."
"What?!?" Kei cried out in surprise. "What a cheap effect!"
Terra Firma's five-thousand-attack blade slashed at Yubel, but it couldn't inflict any damage. Instead, Yubel's vines coiled around it, absorbing all the molten lava and energy, and then lashed out like lightning, piercing Judai straight through the chest!
Judai staggered backward, but even until the end, he kept his eyes fixed on the monster that had delivered the fatal blow.
"Yu... Yubel..."
[Judai: LP 1200 → 0]
