Chapter 408: The Fake Dementors
Chapter 408: The Fake Dementors
In the midst of the chaos, all the team members finally returned to the ground.
Gryffindor had won, but as they watched Hufflepuff celebrating in the distance, they couldn't bring themselves to smile.
The score remained tight, and they were still trailing Hufflepuff by 190 points, leaving everything just as it had started.
On the other hand, Hufflepuff, who had lost the game in name only, was jubilant as if they were celebrating Christmas.
"You really did it!"
Autumn jumped up and down excitedly. "I figured out your plan early on... Giving up the Golden Snitch was such a risky move. I shudder to think what would have happened if you'd failed, but thankfully you succeeded!"
"Of course, we did," Cedric replied with a smile. "Don't forget we have the best Seeker and the bravest Beater... In front of them, a Firebolt is no big deal."
"The key was you holding off Harry," Kyle added. "Otherwise, we wouldn't have had enough time to score."
"Yes, Captain!" Mickel exclaimed, patting him on the shoulder. "Holding off a Firebolt 1700 with a Cleansweep Seventeen. Honestly... I wouldn't be surprised if you receive an offer from a professional team tomorrow. Just like that Krum guy... What was his name again?"
"Viktor Krum, Durmstrang student," Autumn interjected. "He's the most talented Seeker in centuries and has already been scouted by several renowned Quidditch teams last year.
There are even rumors that he'll represent Bulgaria in the Quidditch World Cup next year."
Cedric had been about to humblebrag, as he truly wasn't as gifted a Seeker as Krum. It was a fact.
By the time Krum was fifteen, he had already made a name for himself in the Quidditch arena, while he, at the same age, hadn't received a single invitation from a professional team... not even as a substitute.
However, seeing Autumn's excited expression, Cedric swallowed his words and instead mumbled an unintelligible response.
It was unclear if he was agreeing with Autumn or responding to Mickel.
...
"A shameful trick!"
At that moment, Professor McGonagall's angry roar cut through the air from a distance.
"Despicable and cowardly! Trying to sabotage the Gryffindor Seeker! You'll each be serving detention, and Slytherin will lose fifty points!"
Puzzled, everyone turned to see Professor McGonagall, her face contorted with anger, and a group of students tangled together on the field.
Malfoy, Goyle, Crabbe, and Marcus Flint... They were frantically wriggling out of long, hooded black robes. From their appearance, it seemed that Malfoy had been standing on Goyle's shoulders.
Evidently, the "Dementors" from earlier had been an act put on by these four.
It was quite a dedicated performance, as they had not only chosen robes that matched the Dementors' color but had also cut them to look tattered and torn. From a distance, or from above, they could have easily been mistaken for the real thing.
George stood nearby, his hands tightly gripping his bat... He had glanced over earlier and subconsciously shouted out.
If Harry had been distracted and dropped the Snitch because of that, they would have surely lost the game. George didn't know how he would have faced the other team members if that had happened.
With that in mind, George quietly took aim at Marcus Flint's head and stealthily raised the bat in his hand.
"I received a message that Dementors were spotted here again... Strange, as far as I know, they should all be in Hogsmeade at this time."
"It was these students!" Professor McGonagall explained: "They dressed up as Dementors, intending to interfere with the game..."
"No wonder..." Professor Dumbledore said in realization: "Has Severus been informed about this yet?"
"Probably not."
"Then, send someone to notify him..."
After that, Malfoy and the others were taken away by Professor McGonagall back to the castle.
As soon as they left the pitch, the Gryffindor students burst into laughter as if they had won the Quidditch Cup. Ron stood at the front of the crowd, laughing so hard he could barely stand up straight.
"No wonder I didn't feel cold at all..." Cedric said, "I thought it was because I had learned the Patronus Charm."
"Fifty points deducted, and detention... It's clear that Professor McGonagall is really angry this time."
"Who let them cause trouble during the Quidditch match."
Kyle said with a laugh, "And whether it's Professor McGonagall or Professor Dumbledore, they both detest Dementors. Those Slytherins got what they deserved."
"Never mind..." Cedric shook his head, "The others are already preparing to leave. Let's head back too."
The group didn't even change out of their team uniforms as they hurriedly left the pitch, not to celebrate, but to send the injured players to the school hospital.
Especially the two Chasers, the excitement of the game had faded, and now they felt the pain of their broken arms intensely.
As for Mickel... he was speaking with a lisp.
...
In the hospital wing, Madam Pomfrey complained about how dangerous Quidditch was while skillfully reattaching Grace's arm.
"Don't remove the bandages, and don't carry anything heavy. You'll be fine in a few days."
"As for you..." She looked at Mickel, "Your clothes are in the cabinet. Find yourself a bed. You'll likely be staying here for a couple of days."
"What?" Mickel almost jumped up at her words, "Just for a few missing teeth, do I need to be hospitalized?"
There would definitely be a grand banquet in the common room tonight, and Mickel didn't want to miss it.
"What if I come back on Monday?" he asked tentatively.
"Of course not!"
Madam Pomfrey raised her voice, "The fact that you weren't brought here after being hit in the head by a Bludger surprises me... Regardless, you must undergo a detailed examination!"
"It didn't hit me directly..." Mickel quickly explained, "I hit it off-angle, and the Bludger grazed my face. It's really not that serious."
"That won't do!" Madam Pomfrey insisted, her face stern, "In any case, you're staying here today. Otherwise, I'll go and inform Professor Sprout."
Hearing the name of their Head of House, Mickel's face fell.
He knew he definitely wouldn't be able to leave this time, and even if he tried to sneak out, he would surely be dragged back.
The banquet...
Mickel felt terrible. Why did he hit the Bludger at an angle?
