Chapter 408: Rod, Your New Recruit is Here
Chapter 408: Rod, Your New Recruit is Here
Kana, along with the leader of the Zodiac Spirits, Leo, are both capable individuals, not the type to rely solely on brute force. Together, they can easily handle a minor guild.
"Lucy has found herself a treasure; that guy's magic power is impressive." After a simple test, Rod had a good gauge of Loki's strength.
"Loki came to the human realm using his own magic power, so his strength is somewhat limited. If Lucy were to summon him..." Mira thought for a moment and smiled slyly, "The restrictions might be even greater."
"That's a bit impolite towards Lucy, even if it's the truth." Rod corrected himself, but not entirely.
Lucy's current magic power was indeed a bit lacking compared to the Zodiac Spirits.
The two chatted and laughed for a while, then took care of some minor tasks, and before they knew it, half a day had passed.
"Didn't the Guild Master return with you? Why hasn't he come in yet?"
"When we first returned, he stumbled at the entrance, but it shouldn't have taken this long, right?" Rod asked Rod as Rachel entered from outside. "Have you seen the Guild Master?"
"The Guild Master had a few drinks outside and then hurried off, as if he suddenly remembered something urgent," Rachel replied.
What urgent matter could there be at this hour? All important tasks were already noted in Rod's little notebook.
Let him be; he'll share the important matters when he returns.
As evening approached, Levy and Lucy walked in from the backyard, apparently having spent the afternoon playing in the pool.
The two chatted and laughed like typical high school students, full of youthful energy.
Their hair was still slightly damp, casually draped over their shoulders, and although they weren't wearing swimsuits, their attire gave off a more sultry vibe than swimwear.
A special mention of criticism goes to Lucy.
It's understandable that Levy's collar wasn't properly adjusted, as there wasn't much to see. But Lucy, too, had her top half-open, which was a bit inconsiderate towards her fellow guildmates.
Jet and Troy had followed the girls from the backyard all the way into the tavern.
"Rod, you're back?"
"Mhm," Rod responded, his gaze unwavering from the two beautiful girls in front of him. "I've been stuck in meetings with the Guild Master for days; it's exhausting. You two seem to be having a great time."
"It's hot, and it's rare for the guild's pool to be open," Levy explained.
Lucy felt a twinge of guilt, as they had all gone out together, and she and Levy had returned to play while leaving Rod to assist the Guild Master.
"I just finished a mission," Levy added, indicating her diligence.
"By the way, I bought a really good novel outside. I'll lend it to you after Lucy's done reading it."
"Really? What's it about?"
"It's an adventure story with some suspense elements, but the author's writing is excellent; it feels like you're right there in the story."
"That's my favorite type of book. Consider it a thank you; let me treat you to something to eat," Rod said, turning to Mira. "How about it?"
Mira rolled her eyes; this wasn't something to get jealous over.
"Then I won't hold back!" Levy happily ordered her favorite dish.
Jet and Troy stared in disbelief. How could Rod make such an offer so casually?
And Levy had agreed so readily!
It felt like even if Rod asked Levy out to play, she would agree—as long as Mira didn't beat him to it.
Damn it.
Jet and Troy, feeling dejected, ordered beer and sat at the bar, casting envious glances at Rod.
Lucy, on the other hand, looked at him with anticipation.
"Don't look at me like that; it's not for you. Pay up quickly." Rod's tone was merciless.
"That's unfair! Why?" Lucy exclaimed in shock.
"Because I'm tight on money. Mira and I covered the expenses for the hotel and amusement park damage a few days ago. Pay your share quickly."
Although the Three Ravens and X were primarily responsible for the damage to the hotel, amusement park, and the ensuing chaos, Rod and the others ultimately bore the financial burden.
Rod's already tight financial situation was further strained.
"I forgot!" Lucy covered her head in shock, "No wonder I suddenly feel so financially secure. I thought I wouldn't have to worry about rent anymore!"
Mira smiled and said, "Don't worry, Loki is already working for you."
Lucy was surprised, "Loki? When did this happen?"
Mira asked curiously, "You don't know?"
Lucy searched her waist for her key ring, and seeing the Leo key still there, she resisted the urge to summon Loki: "I wanted him to rest for a few more days, but he went out on his own! Why did he suddenly want to work?"
Mira laughed, "Because he has some unfinished business in the human world, and he happened to meet Kana looking for teammates."
"What a carefree Celestial Spirit..." Lucy muttered, not showing any anger.
After all, Loki had his own life in the human world and various friends. It was his freedom, and Lucy didn't want to interfere.

"Sigh... I guess I need to work too." Lucy didn't expect any reward from Loki's task; that guy might have his own plans.
Rod said, "Coincidentally, several subjugation missions arrived at the guild today. You can consider taking one."
Lucy looked dejected, "I can't do subjugation missions alone."
Reby asked in confusion, "Why? Didn't Lucy join the strongest team?"
"Because Erza will be working as a server in the guild for a week, Gray is accompanying Juvia on a job, and Natsu said he needs more training with Happy. I'm the only one left..."
Rod bore a tiny bit of responsibility for Natsu's situation, as it was after being easily knocked away by the Mountain Dragon that Natsu decided to undergo special training.
But this didn't stop Rod from collecting debts.
Lucy wasn't the type to default on her debts, and she asked with a bitter expression, "Miss Mira, is there a mission suitable for me to do alone?"
"Hmm..." Mira thought for a moment and took out the uniform Rod had put away, "Here you go, the most suitable job is this one. The guild's server position has great benefits, and I think this uniform suits Lucy well."
"I'll consider it." This time, Lucy didn't reject the offer outright.
After joining the guild for over two months, she had experienced all the thrills and excitement, and occasionally trying out a regular job seemed appealing.
Lucy and Reby soon started their dinner.
However, halfway through their meal, the guild suddenly became quiet.
The people at the counter looked over, and Lucy showed a surprised expression, while Reby covered her mouth. Mira and Rod were also puzzled.
The reason for the commotion was the return of the Guild Master, followed by an unexpected guest—the former Phantom Lord, the Iron Dragon Slayer, Gajiru.
Many people recognized him as the culprit who had previously caused havoc in the guild, and those who didn't recognize him at first were reminded by their companions.
The tavern fell silent, and some people had already stood up from their seats. If it weren't for the Guild Master's presence, a brawl might have already started.
Facing the curious gazes of the crowd, Makarov smiled and said, "This is Gajiru, and starting today, he's a member of our guild!"
The Guild Master's words created a stir, turning the quiet guild into a chaotic one.
"What?"
"Guild Master! What are you saying?"
"How can you let someone like this join?"
Voices of confusion, questioning, and even table-pounding rose and fell, expressing disbelief. How could someone who had caused damage to the guild and injured the Raijinshuu be allowed to join so casually?
