Chapter 408: A Seventh-Rank Treasure?
Chapter 408: A Seventh-Rank Treasure?
December 8th, 2024
"Lucky for us, there's a Seventh-Rank defensive treasure. No wonder he could withstand your hypnosis for so long."
The middle-aged man seemed to be speaking to the woman beside him, but his eyes were fixed on Jiang Cheng with a smile.
The woman nodded, seemingly unsurprised.
Jiang Cheng's pupils dilated uncontrollably.
Seventh-Rank? A Seventh-Rank treasure?
If a Sixth-Rank treasure was valued between a hundred billion and a thousand billion, then a Seventh-Rank treasure would be worth even more, calculated in the thousands of billions.
With the limited wealth generated by the Morning Star, even if they hadn't hit the ceiling, they were probably close.
The middle-aged man smiled at Jiang Cheng, "Alright, it's getting late. Let's wake them up and leave this place first. We can discuss the details once we're out of the Inner District."
"Yes, yes."
Elder Qin's voice was slightly hurried.
Although their operation was highly confidential, and the Leader hadn't been mobilized, they were still worried about the consequences if they were surrounded.
"Mhm."
Jiang Cheng nodded, took the box from Elder Qin's hand, and opened it. A pungent odor filled his nostrils, so intense that it seemed to reach his crown.
"Little brother, this is the Beast King's feces, processed," Elder Qin explained while covering his nose.
"..."
Jiang Cheng smiled bitterly.
No wonder it smelled so bad; it was feces...
The Beast King, a higher-ranked creature, was equivalent to a Grandmaster among humans, also divided into ten levels.
Soon, Chen Sao and the other two women woke up, greedily breathing in the fresh air.
"Little Cheng, who are they?"
Chen Sao noticed the situation around her and saw three unfamiliar people. Her eyes showed a hint of apprehension.
"They're here to help us leave this place," Jiang Cheng said concisely, "Aunt Chen, Grandma, Xiaoyue, let's leave this place first. Once we're in a safe place, I'll tell you what happened."
The three women nodded.
Although they were apprehensive, they trusted Jiang Cheng completely.
As they left the restaurant, Jiang Cheng realized that not only the people inside the restaurant but also those in the outer corridor and even on several floors were hypnotized, deep in slumber.
"How long will it take for them to wake up?"
Jiang Cheng looked at the woman, unable to hold back his curiosity.
"It depends on their strength," she replied, glancing at Jiang Cheng. "If they're strong, they might wake up in about a day. If they're weaker, it could take two to three days. For ordinary people, it might take even longer, and there's a chance they may never wake up."
A chill ran up Jiang Cheng's spine.
"Haha, don't worry, little brother," Elder Qin laughed, "This is a bustling area. Someone will notice something amiss soon, and powerful individuals will gather. If we had been any slower, we might not have been able to leave at all."
"Mhm." Jiang Cheng nodded, leading his family as they followed the three others.
As long as no one in the building was in mortal danger, that was all that mattered. However, if anyone suffered property damage, there was nothing he could do. This was already the quietest method; if they had used force, more people would have been injured or even killed in the crossfire.
The group made their way underground and boarded a flying vehicle. To Jiang Cheng's surprise, the vehicle didn't ascend into the sky but instead traveled along the elevated roads of the Inner District, seemingly heading towards the perimeter walls.
The middle-aged man took the initiative to explain, "Our actions at the restaurant might have been exposed. For safety, it's best we leave through the underground tunnel, it's more secure that way."
Jiang Cheng was taken aback, "Are there tunnels from the Inner District to the Outer District?"
"Of course," the man replied with a slight smile. "The walls of the Inner District are exceptionally sturdy, but that doesn't mean we can't create a passage. Many secret organizations use these tunnels to travel between the inner and outer districts. However, these passages aren't accessible to just anyone."
"Is it dangerous?"
"Mhm."
The middle-aged man continued, "The surface of the Inner District appears bright and vibrant, but where there's light, there's also darkness. The underground passages are a haven for the homeless, but they're also home to monsters and cultists. Ordinary people who venture in won't even see these monsters and cultists, they'll be robbed clean, and their lives will be at risk. Further inside, you'll encounter all sorts of bizarre creatures."
He glanced at Chen Sao and the other two, who looked increasingly terrified, and smiled reassuringly, "But don't worry, neither the monsters nor the cultists can harm us in the slightest."
Jiang Cheng also gave his family a reassuring look.
This man was, after all, the leader of the Resistance Army, and his strength was beyond question.
"Leader, where do those monsters come from?"
"Who knows?"
The middle-aged man's expression grew solemn, "They're probably some native creatures, alien beings, and perhaps even failed experiments of genetic modification, fused with other beings."
"..."
Jiang Cheng was left speechless.
Despite the casual tone of the middle-aged man, the information he revealed sent a chill down Jiang Cheng's spine.
Who were these people who genetically modified humans? What kind of heartless beings would discard the failed human experiments into the tunnels, leaving them to live or die, even fusing them with other creatures?
"Anyway, don't worry," the middle-aged man smiled, "Those monsters aren't too powerful, or else the people in the Inner District wouldn't be able to stay. As for the cultists, we should be extra cautious to avoid unnecessary trouble. If we encounter them, it's best to avoid confrontation, unless they provoke us first."
"Alright."
Jiang Cheng nodded.
He suddenly understood why Ding Lei and the others had said that staying in the residential area for life wasn't such a bad thing.
As they spoke, the flying vehicle arrived at a somewhat desolate area. There were tall buildings here too, but most of them were dilapidated, and many bore signs of charring.
Not far away was an underground entrance, dark and foreboding. At the entrance, several people in tattered clothing stood, and when they saw Jiang Cheng and the others descending from the flying vehicle, their eyes gleamed with greed, especially when they noticed the presence of a woman.
But they weren't foolish; they could tell that the group before them wasn't to be trifled with, and so they didn't let their lust cloud their judgment. Instead, they hid to the side, watching with stealthy eyes.
The middle-aged man gave a glance to the woman holding the flute.
Understanding his intent, she blew into the flute, and soon, several homeless people fell into a deep slumber.
"Let's go," the middle-aged man said, leading the way into the underground passage.
