Chapter 407: The Final Resolution
Chapter 407: The Final Resolution
Liam didn't jump into the valley to launch a one-man army against the Giants. Anyone with a brain would know that getting involved in a fight between Giants was a bad idea.
Approaching the valley, he extended his hand to feel the wind direction. He discovered that the wind in the valley was very consistent, always blowing down from the distant mountains through Rivendell. Thus, he slowly moved along the edge of the battle, keeping hidden, until he reached the Rivendell entrance where the wind blew from above.
"This should do." Confirming that he was in the upwind position, Liam found a small hill that shielded him from the Giants' view. He pulled out a large pot from his Spatial Bag, added some water, and then poured a bottle of Jet into the pot. He set up a kerosene stove underneath and started a fire.
Before long, brown mist began to rise from the pot. Liam quickly cast a Bubble-Head Charm to avoid inhaling the toxic fumes. The mist quickly merged with the dark night and was carried by the wind from the other end of the valley toward the battling Giants.
Inhaling the dangerous gas, the Giants became even more frenzied. The scale of the battle became completely uncontrollable. Unlike before, the frenzied Giants didn't stop fighting when they reached a certain point; instead, they fought with all their might until the very end.
"Sure enough, some things are absolutely not to be touched; even a little can be deadly." Liam peered into the valley, where the battlefield was awash with blood, and sighed. "Even in their frenzy, these Giants have lost their most basic biological instincts. Most animals in the world won't fight to the death with their own kind due to these instincts, but now, these Giants have crossed that dangerous line. This is also partly due to the Death Eaters stirring up their wild and bloodthirsty nature."
The Giants' battle was so intense that their roars and clashes even triggered a small avalanche on a distant mountain. No wonder the local Muggles believed that this area often experienced dangerous geological changes.
A few hours later, the sun rose, and the battle ended with the last Giant falling. Liam, after confirming through reconnaissance that there were no intact Giants left in the valley, gathered his things and emerged from his hiding place, gripping a halberd made of Valyrian Steel.
As Hagrid had said, there were over 70 Giants here. Excluding the mild Giants on the fringes, the remaining nearly 70 Giants had all fallen in the valley. However, due to their superior physical strength compared to humans, even after such a brutal fight, about half of the Giants were still alive.
But those surviving Giants were lying on the ground, utterly exhausted. Under the influence of the drug, they had fought with all their might, and those who survived had either been severely injured or had exhausted their energy. For example, Gog Magog, who had smashed the skulls of at least two Giants the previous night, was now leaning against a rock, his abdomen torn open, revealing his ugly gray organs.
Seeing someone approach, Gog Magog lifted his head, covered in black hair, and bared his black teeth, muttering something in Giant language. Liam didn't understand what he said and didn't want to. He swiftly leaped forward, swung the halberd with both hands, and a huge head, along with a necklace of human bones, flew into the air.
With the help of Life Magic, Liam methodically identified and eliminated the surviving Giants. Fortunately, the Giants were all lying on the ground, unable to resist, so clearing them out was just a matter of chopping about 30 times with his axe.
After clearing all the Giants outside, Liam glanced at the direction where a few mild Giants were hiding, trembling in a cave corner. Then he entered the cave where Giant Gurg had been staying.
The cave where the Giants lived smelled terrible, like a pigsty that hadn't been cleaned for centuries. Even with the Bubble-Head Charm, Liam could still feel the stench wafting up his nose.
Enduring the nauseating smells, Liam turned his gaze to the pile of items stacked in the corner. The leaders of the Giants were often brutal and unintelligent, so they wouldn't share their treasures with anyone else. The gifts from both the Death Eaters and Dumbledore, aside from the helmet taken from the tall horse's head, were now stockpiled at the deepest part of the cave.
"Eternal Flame, Bloodaxe, a large roll of genuine Dragon Hide—looks like both sides have put a lot of effort into winning over the Giants!" Liam muttered as he inventoried the loot. As an Alchemist, he knew just how valuable these items were.
At the bottom of the pile, there were even dozens of pieces of fool's gold, each larger than two baseballs, likely gathered by the Giants from the surrounding area. However, there were no gemstones, probably because normal gems were too small for Giants.
After clearing out the cave, Liam began his final task: cleaning up the scene. He burned all the remaining spiced meat broth to destroy the evidence, then sequentially opened dimensional gates to the Radiant World, Doll World, and A Song of Ice and Fire World, stuffing the Giant corpses inside. He imagined they would be quite interested in these new biological samples.
For instance, Teacher Luo Zhen eagerly requested three of the most intact corpses, while the other two worlds divided the remaining bodies. In the end, the ground was left with only frozen crimson blood and scattered bits of flesh and bone.
After confirming that everything was taken away, Liam used his Grapple Hook to climb back to the previous cave, where Hermione was waiting for him.
"Have the survivors been settled?" Liam asked, looking at Hermione, who was sitting cross-legged on a rug, sipping tea and eating snacks.
"Yes", Hermione replied, gesturing for Liam to sit opposite her and join her. "I conjured a large sleigh and used shadows to pull them two kilometers away. Then I cast a Stunning Spell on each of them. They should wake up by sunset. Their clothes are thick, so they won't get frostbite. There are no large predators around here because of the Giants. I also left them plenty of food, water, and the Signal Gun you gave me."
"That's good", Liam said, cleaning his hands with magic and picking up a piece of pastry. He was indeed hungry after a night's work.
"Will the remaining Giants not be swayed by the Death Eaters again?" Hermione asked, taking a sip of her tea.
"I can assure you they won't", Liam replied, lifting his tea cup. "I thoroughly checked, and only six Giants remain, all of them old, weak, or young. They are unlikely to be recruited by the Dark Lord."
"Is it really that simple? Why was Hagrid's negotiation with the Giants so difficult in his story to Harry and the others?" Hermione put down her teacup and looked at Liam.
"First, they encountered Death Eater interference from the start, while we eliminated all the Death Eaters right away. Second, as Hagrid said, Giants have simple minds, so mere persuasion doesn't work. After I wiped out ninety percent of their members, their simple brains quickly understood that collaborating with the Death Eaters would lead to their demise, and they will remember this lesson forever", Liam explained, raising his teacup in a toast to Hermione.
"Our mission successfully prevented these evil creatures from causing further harm and eliminated the possibility of them doing so in the future. As our first independent operation, this outcome is truly worthy of celebration."
Hermione smiled and raised her own teacup, clinking it gently against Liam's. "Yes, we saved many lives and punished evil. This is indeed a cause for celebration."
After a short rest, Liam stood up and disposed of the three Death Eater corpses along with the Giants' bodies in the same three worlds. Then, he and Hermione headed back to the lake where they had started their journey.
